If you've been wanting to add QR codes (those UPC-like codes that Smartphone users can snap a picture of and be directed to a specific web page) to your offline marketing materials, here's how to do it:

1. Create a short link for the page you want to direct folks to using bitly | Basic | a simple URL shortener

2. In Bit.ly, click on the number next to the link you created in the column "Clicks" (it will start at "0 out of 0" for a newly created link)

3. The next page is the detailed metrics. Look at the top right corner and there's your QR code for the link! Just copy and paste in onto your flyer, ad or whatever.

What's cool is that you can not only have the code, but you'll be able to use bit.ly's stats to see how often it's been accessed.

  • Here's another great way to create free QR codes.

    1. Go to the Google url shortener: http://goo.gl/

    2. Once you have your shortened Google url simply place .qr to the end of the url and a QR code image will display for that url.
