    • Yep exactly what they said. Always good for this information to be easily accessible.
  • as an SEO person, I would say this is a perfect article... However, I don't think this article will help newbies as it's too much generic. each one of those mini-paragraphs that you wrote, can be detailed to be a large article that is even larger than the whole article that you've written.

Overall I would say excellent - keep up the good work

  • Good post for newbies about the importance of traffic/visitor generation.

Get those landing pages up and get busy generating traffic to those pages.

Master 1 tactic to begin with and then master at least 3 or 4 for traffic diversity.

Too many people do everything except master traffic.

    - Fast selling products are a dime a dozen:

    - Anyone can slap up some type of landing page:

Master traffic generation and you will earn your freedom as it separates the men from the boys.

  • QKZ283,

Many... Many thanks for the details and resources supplied in your post.

So far, no one else has stepped up and added any REAL VALUE to the conversation.

I see a lot of blah.. blah... but no REAL VALUE ADDED!

I give you HIGH PRAISE for providing not only ideas, but TACTICS and RESOURCES!

    Thanks Again!
  • I'm a newbie. Thanks for the info.
  • Great stuff...what a list.

    Traffic is the easy part.

    Conversion is a bit harder.
  • Thanks for the good information QKZ283.

It helped alot- I was wondering about a couple of things and was afraid to ask. Thank you very much
  • It's a great overview for newbs. Put a bit of so-called 'blackhat' stuff in there and bingo. Away you go.
  • Wow ... that is a very impressive list and a great help to Newbies.

However, as mentioned previously, encouraging them to follow just three or four methods until they are completely familiar with those will benefit them sooner.

But, you have done a fantastic job with this thread.

    Good luck to you.
  • Great Post! Thanks for the information, it will come in good use I´m sure.
  • Thanks for the resources. I learned some new information.

But from my experience, for generating traffic, its best to start off mastering 1 resource, get really good at it and then move on the next one, else my focus is divided between 15 different things-to-do and I see a drop in my productivity and also in my returns.

  • When you see big lists like this - be wary.

OK - full of great ideas, thanks qkz283.......but how much time do you have in a day?

Try just doing 3 or 4 of these things and you will see your time get eaten up in a flash.

The key is to find a method that works well.

Some methods work a whole lot better than others.

    Better to spend your time on the methods that work best. Also, remember;

You want targeted traffic - not just any crappy traffic.

It makes a real difference to your results - and results are what you need.
  • That was an awesome post. I printed a pdf of it so I can refer to it later.

  • Thanks great post. Regarding email how would you go about using optin/ double optin lists you can buy from the interent. Is there a way to send to these lists cheaply.

Any recommendations on sites to buy from and where to send to from would be great?
  • Great post! very helpful information!
Marketing online is by far the best way to build your business but the fact is, that it can be difficult at times.
The main thing is to stay consistent and keep pushing forward.

  • There is a lot of info in this initial post. I agree that all of the ways are great. The problem is, if true entrepreneurs are like me, they do the crazy thing and try to make them all work at once!

A strategy that works, is taking on one, maybe two at a time and getting good at them. Really learning what to do, how to do it, and implementing it as you learn.

Expectations are high for newbies. Many, like me probably have a low budget to start, and can't power buy traffic, or outsource everything all at once.

It takes time to build traffic on a low budget. You must find the good sources of specialized knowledge and follow them. This is why I created my video series ... to stop the fruitless, expensive, and wasteful searches for others.

Also, new online businesses must loose the idea that they are going to create a business for free. That isn't going to happen. Businesses costs money, and maintaining and sustaining traffic flow costs money ... in one way or another (direct or indirect).

So, all the points in the lead post are great, but don't go after them all at once.
  • I can see you put alot of effort into this. I will bookmark this page. Thanks for that.

      Article/Post syndication:

Update: You could also use Posterous to update Blogger, Livejournal, and Xanga. This way you don't even have to use the Livejournal plugin (Live+Press)

Walaa! You have now spread your content further onto the net. More chances of people coming back to your main site! =)

  • Wow that is some great info! Allot more than I have time to do at this time but definitely great info!

Thanks I plan to apply some of your advice.
  • I've heard a funny traffic suggestion... like bring a banner/board with your URL and get behind TV reporters on scene...

But one that worked for me, create a useful resource/tool and give it away for free.

Let me give you a few examples... I have my MiniSiteGallery.com, which is a free mini-site template gallery. Designers can submit designs and others can download and use them for free. They'd have to register to download though. But I am getting new members signing up everyday. Though getting designs is much harder... I approach designers individually and request for a design and interview.

Another example is where I created a simple Countdown script with PHP-Javascript. I post it at HotScripts.com and it's been sending steady traffic, from HotScripts.com and from organic searches. Look it up, it's hosted at MiniSiteGallery.com too...

My simple traffic idea -- awesome useful resources/tools for free...

  • That is one very big list of how to get traffic and build backlinks. Some of those I really didn't know or didn't think of using.

Usually I don't read really long posts, but this is a good one, so good that I think I'll have to bookmark it for reference.

  • Articles are so easy to do and use. They can be posted all over the place. Hire somebody to write them for you if you can't do it. I write just a few per week, maybe 5-10 of em' and easily do a few hundred bucks a week just doing that. No trouble at all, then if you do some web 2.0 stuff, like socialmarker.com on your articles, and submit the articles with article marketer or submityourarticle... add 1 post or so every now and then to a blog and have some kind of list building you are pretty much set with a plan of action

  • I'd say - pick a few methods that appeal to you, focus on them and screw the rest. In my experience when people try and do it all they often end up doing nothing....
  • A couple of offline suggestions. You mentioned flyers and newspapers.

What about the old standby..direct mail (postcards)

Also, talk radio...buy 1/2 hour and answer people's questions about your niche.

A little more off-the-wall...bumper stickers or T-shirts "ask me about..."
  • an absolutely stunning post. I really like the way that your first step is to identify what you want from the traffic. Sadly too many people start building traffic without thinking it through.

  • This is an excellant bullet point reference overview on how it's done. Could also be used as the basis for a table of contents... in fact it's not too far off from the TOC that I have right now for a book I'll publish later this year...

Newbies - just take each paragraph, and search the keywords and phrases in the WarriorForums for tons and tons of great information that is more in depth on each paragraph.

    Great job OP!

  • I have a question. If you have a backlink with anchour text as (1) "XXXXproductreviews.com"

Is that the same as having anchour text (2) "XXXX reviews" since the first link has the two key words present.

Or is link 1 not as good as link 2
    • [1] reply
    • You want your page to be ranked high for "XXXX reviews" in the search engines so definitely go with 2.

    • This is an impressive list of traffic building activities. I imagine that the beginners looking at this would be very intimated at all the work it takes to drive traffic.

I would suggest to anyone starting out, that these activities be broken down into bite size chunks that can be easily managed over time. Develop a daily routine of setting up time slots in your daily calendar to work on each piece for a given amount of time. None of this can be accomplished overnight.

It requires a lot of self discipline to effectively produce results.

      Great post qkz283

My dear sweet OP, can you PM me the post? If not, I'll be crying loudly
  • Traffic is great and can be the big compensator. By that I mean, even if you have a crappy conversion rate if you get enough traffic you can still be effective.

    However...

Don't fall into this concept that everything is about traffic. You can make significant full time income off of just a couple hundred users a day to your site if you have the right sales funnel, rapport with your users and appropriate backend systems and follow up.

Traffic is good, but it is not the ONLY thing you should be worried about. Personally my recommendation is once you're getting some sales, shift your focus away from worrying so much about traffic and more towards your sales funnel, auto responder, backend systems, etc... Efficiency there can help you increase your earnings and allow you to inject more into your traffic building.

Don't worry about those things, however, until you're getting some sales. You need enough traffic to first be making a little money before you start worrying about conversions and backend. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.
  • No offense, but this about the worst advice you could give to any web site owner.

In this very forum we have seen numerous examples of people who did this and their business got busted when the specific method they relied on stopped working without prior warning.

    Ralf
  • I agree. Find one method (ie article writing as an example) and once your website starts ranking for the keywords from the articles then move on to the next method.
  • Actually by focusing on one method, I believe the OP is encouraging readers to master one method first and then move on to others, one at a time. That way you don't get everything all jungled up

  • Very well stated for newbies and even intermediates. Sticking to one general traffic method is the key to receiving a lot of traffic but I believe that you should have more than one traffic source available to you if you own a large business. I still agree that one general and main traffic method should be used, but having more than one traffic method can be very profitable too.
  • I can agree with that.. if it's not broken why fix it?..
    • [1] reply
    • agreed.

The thing that you want to do is go to where your most likely prospect is hanging out.

We have done well by doing media buys on high traffic forums and blogs. Even for affiliate programs it works.

and again, test, test, test....what works for joe bloggs, might not nessesary work for you and your business to get sales. But Do not wait for the traffic to go to u. Make sure you infact go to it first!!! The rest is history.

  • Hi:

    Shireen here :-)

Totally agree, I generated most of my traffic from ebay :-)
  • That is the worst advice ever!

Why would you want to only focus on method?... So you can work hard for it for months and years and if for some reason one day you lose the traffic from that method, you lose everything?....

I would thin most people would agree that its best not to put all of your eggs in one basket.

For those who are disappointed about the list not being here anymore, here is a list I created a while back:

  • Getting traffic is one thing but monetize is another one and people don't seems to focus on it enough.
  • This is good info but I also believe that to create a truly sustaining business you cannot rely on one traffic method. Think of all the people who relied on organic search traffic and put $$$ into SEO just to have their rankings flushed down the drain by the Google updates.

To focus on one traffic system is smart because for a newbie you can avoid information overload but I would suggest to focus on 2 or even 3. I'm not saying to go out and multi-task all day on 3 different methods and achieve nothing. Focus on one method for as long as it takes to generate some decent traffic then move on to another method. Once you complete the second go back to optimize and tweak your first method. You wouldn't want to gamble your whole internet business on only one method of traffic (unless it's paid traffic)
