Can you ping (ezine) articles and if so where?

7 replies
Hello Fellow Warriors,

I've read somewhere in my humongous stash of resource materials
that I'm supposed to ping my articles. (to drive more traffic to them etc.)

But when I went to some ping services, they very explicitly seem to be
only for blogs, and, well, the article is not a blog (and I AM already pinging
my blogs)

Did I misunderstand something and should I use social bookmarking instead,
or are there article-friendly ping services, etc. I don't want to get on the
bad side of those ping services by violating their terms of service. :confused:

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much.

Elisabeth

    put up a blog post about it and was on the the
    first page of google in 2 days.

    My article readership increased when I started pinging my articles and author page. It's also a good idea to submit your authors RSS feed to RSS directories. Go to your EzineArticles Expert Author page, click the RSS icon next to your name, click the orange XML button at the top right, and submit your XML feed to the RSS directories.

    Here are the RSS directories I use:
    * Feedbees.com
    * Plazoo.com
    * Page2go2.com
    * RSSmicro.com
    * RSSmotron.com
    * RSS-Network.com

    For pinging I use either Pingoat or Ping-O-Matic

    WordWizard...

    Nobody knows what they are talking about. All pinging does is tell Google to come and see your content. If Google likes it (which they will), they'll index it and pt it in there database.

    Pinging does not help you get more traffic, it helps you get indexed in the first place. And at an super busy site like an article directory, the spiders are going to be crawlin constantly already, so you don't need to waste your time pinging it.

    I never thought of pinging my ezine articles. What a great idea! Especially if my article readership increases.

      Thank you all so much for your feedback!

      I pinged a couple of my articles as an experiment and so far
      haven't seen a difference. But who knows. One of them was
      very new "slow" article (10 views), the other one doing well
      (251 views) and been there for a bit. Since pinging them, the
      slow one went to 11 views, and the other one to 255. And
      that's just the "organic" increase they get.

      I seem to get more traction by mentioning them on Twitter ;-)

      In fact, with timely mentions, I have increased the views of my
      Gratitude article quite a bit. Unfortunately, I didn't keep stats on
      that, but it was low, like in the 20s, then got a few extra views,
      as it was getting close to Thanksgiving, but now, after mentioning
      it a few times, it's now up to 122 views and it even picked up a
      couple of publishers!

      Somebody told me that pinging was for blogs only, and pingoat
      and others are certainly set up for blog pinging, but if it gets a
      few more viewers to my article (and maybe that way improves
      its chances to get into the top 10 that seems like it might be worth
      the try.

      I think what I'll do is ping some articles, but selectively. I'll keep
      track of the difference a bit more closely and let you all know
      what if anything happens.

      Thanks again, and VERY Happy Holidays!
