Is it really true? Your opinions will truly be welcome.

I think its just a rumour or plain misinformation?

Can you provide a link or two to an article from a credible source
    discussing this?

I don't keep my finger on the pulse of what FB is doing. But everything
I've read, so far, is affiliate marketing is going strong at FB. Youtube's
made changes re links since 'they' bought them. But that's nothing new.

    Do you have recent news?

      Honestly Ken,
I saw a recently post in WF about a supposed crackdown by Social media sites. I had also heard such things in posts in the past. Also some CPA offers frown on the use of myspace to promote products.

Just need to confirm whether there was some truth in it or whether its been blown out of proportion or perhaps downright untrue?

        Hi,

I won't say it's "downright untrue." Things are immediately susceptible to
getting blown out of proportion anywhere online.

So I will say there is definitely some truth to it. Here is what I have learned,
and I'm confident there are more true stories re affiliate marketing/affiliate offers.

A lot of places are tired of deceptive marketing practices that are most commonly
seen, a presumption, with affiliate offers. So these various places are trying to
do something about it. It only makes sense because no business wants to be
        associated with deceptive marketing practices.

So you have google with their ongoing efforts seen most notably with their Farmer/
Panda update. That was not targeted at affiliate marketing, but it seems to have
a bearing on common practices used by affiliate marketers. Also with google, for
over a year adwords certainly seems to be unfriendly toward affiliate marketers and
the kinds of offers promoted by affiliates from sites like CB.

Squidoo had a TOS update about a month ago, roughly, in which they openly stated
content that 'pushes' the reader to an affiliate offer is not welcome.

Just the other day, yesterday maybe, there was a thread about buzzle, I think, that
reported a recent TOS update prohibiting external links.

Hubpages updated their TOS that is directed toward too much commercialization
in their content. From what I have seen, and that is not comprehensive, HP seems
to be a bit nebulous in their implementation. I've read of people receiving notices
about their hubpages to change things, remove links, etc. I do not think HP is as
open about their disdain as Squidoo, for example.

I do not think it is only social media that is concerned about affiliate marketing. It
seems to be more widespread acrosss the various platforms and mediums on the
        web.

But those are just a few places, and there are still many ways to market affiliate
products. Plus, it can still be done at some of the places I mentioned above such
as at google and even adwords from what I've read. It just has to be wrapped
in such a way that makes it more presentable.

Everybody has a product to sell, even google search. So they are trying to present
their product in the best way possible.

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know if that helps, but that's about all I know
on the subject. Just sort of do things right, lol, and you'll be ok. Right from the
perspective of user experience... good info, no bs, etc.

I think social media is actually a good promotional tool. However, how you do it. Your products must be purchased by those who need. So, how you find those who need? Maybe it's my opinion.

Every web site that allows you to publish content like social media sites, article directories, open blogs, etc, wants you to deliver the best quality content. Spamming these resources with promotional offers is annoying and makes their system look like crap.

They are cracking down on those that do affiliate marketing the wrong way. Don't allow your content you publish in these areas to be commercialized. Provide your readers with some helpful advice or something of value and direct them to a website that does the selling.

It's too often you see someone trying to make a quick buck by sending me a personal message on Facebook that directly promotes some crap I'm not even remotely interested in. This type of thing is what they crack down on.

SENukeX is great at distributing links to lots of social media sites that then link back to IM sites. They probably don't like that : )
