Question for professional marketeers!

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and need some input from professionals here. I am an internet marketing specialist with Fortune 100 company. My situation is such that I need to take care of my loved one and work from home. I am definitely not new to internet marketing, but very new to freelancing. So here is my question - do you think this is a good introductory offer to start building up my freelance reputation and client base?

1) 6 Original, keyword optimized, 400-600 word Articles
2) 2 Beautiful Squidoo Lenses (with money making modules)
3) 1 Hub Page
3) 20 Quality Backlinks (either dofollow or commentluv)

All for $99. This will include keyword optimization, proper keyword density, no stuffing, no spinning, no outsourcing, and no cutting corners.

I am very qualified and come with 5 years of computer programming experience, writing background, marketing & business background, etc.

Since I am new here, I can't post any links. Therefore, if you would like to check out my LinkedIn profile please reply with your e-mail and I will forward the link to you.

Any suggestions on where to find clients would be highly appreciated. In addition, any recommendations on services that marketeers need the most would also be very helpful.

Thank you so much in advance

If you've got 5 years of computer programming experience, perhaps you should be selling that as a service (at a high end), rather than stuff like articles/lenses/hubpages that just about every internet marketing novice can put together and sell.

If you start off freelance, or get sub-contracted work from studios, you can then perhaps build your own studio, higher a couple of other developers on a revenue share basis. Some development studios charge upwards of $150 an hour for their services.

My initial reaction is the same as in the post above, Dmitry.

With all those skills and qualifications, you should surely be offering a more valuable and less competitive service, rather than something easily and widely provided in a very price-competitive market by countless others without your skills and experience?

What did you have in mind when you said "Other Services" ?

I was thinking of your 5-years' computer-programming experience. I don't know that much about it, but it must surely be much better paid to build custom-made software for businesses than to be promoting something which everyone and his brother is promoting (which is why the prices are always being forced down by the competitiveness of the market)? I don't mean it impolitely, of course, but the type of services you mentioned above are those sold by literally hundreds of people here, and elsewhere, while you yourself clearly have a skill-set which many (most?) of them don't have?

True. However, I've been out of computer programming for about 8 years. Also, outsourcing programming is much more common these days. What do you think about Business Strategies coaching? Just brainstorming here.

Also, have you heard about filling out forms on internet? Is that legit?

Have you tried actually doing this and checking how long it takes?

I do lenses of 1200 words for $120 and they sell well (image editing, formatting, etc, put the lense in green with backlinks as a bonus).

I´m not sure about your location, but your job description would take me around 2 days work (going easy, but nonetheless...). Would you work 2 days for $99?

I've done this. I know it will take me a whole day to do it. I just need to build up client list. i would love to build and sell Squidoo lenses as well. I've done at least 30 for my friends including CSS, HTML affiliate links, money modules. I even had Giant Squids commenting on how great my lenses look. How do you sell them and to who? I don't have a huge portfolio of lenses though. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate that greatly.

        Hi Dmitry

Okay let's cut to the chase. What country are you in?

I know you said you worked for a Fortune 100 which to me would imply US, but I can't see that you can be there from what you are suggesting.

So have you moved somewhere else?

I have a portfolio of regular clients. Most come recommended by other clients.

Considering your experience, you may want to go and take a peek into the Offline Forum. Business Strategies coaching is certainly an option for you in consulting small business owners struggling to market online. Currently this is essentially a wide open market.

In my opinion, you're working way too cheap. Compile some solid testimonials from satisfied clients, and start charging what you're worth. With a background in computer programming, you should be charging $99 per hour!

Don't pigeon-hole yourself as someone who works cheap. It's extremely difficult to overcome that reputation. Confidently charge what you're worth!

Thanks for the advice David. The thing is that I don't have satisfied customers yet due to the fact that I've never done freelance before. I can't contact my current business customers because I am contractually obligated by my company not to contact them.

What do you think would be a fair price for these services?

What do you think would be a competitive price for blog commenting or back link strategies?

You're quite welcome, Dmitry. You should think about positioning yourself as some kind of consultant or specialist. Consultants and specialists command higher fees. So, slow down, take a deep breath, and brainstorm a niche for yourself.

To get the creative juices flowing, read my article Niche Marketing: 13 Brilliant Niche Business Ideas. Once you decide on a niche, use your skills to perform your service free of charge for a few customers in return for testimonials.

Regarding what you should charge, contact me when you decide what you want to do, and I'll help you with that.

Hey DmitryP, I think you can easily browse a couple dozens of blogs who are looking for guest authors. You can earn from $50 for a simple post and up to $250 for a detailed Photoshop tutorial.

I would say that your price is pretty high...largely because you are competing against overseas (Philippines) labor that is much less expensive. I would suggest that you'd likely be better off promoting yourself as a local search SEO expert to small businesses in your area, or to build a niche site portfolio of your own using your SEO talents. If you want more info on the niche site approach, click the link in my sig.

the price is not high, it is a bargain if he can really write and add IM expertise to the writing in terms of guiding the visitor toward an outcome. The only way I can see those numbers work is if he reuses the same material for the articles and the lens/hub, or if he re-writes instead of writing. Each section in a lens needs images for example, oftentimes you need to add diagrams or mindmaps to clarify concepts.

I wouldn´t work for that pricing.

Sandra. thank you for input. I though about what you said and would like to ask you few questions about lens building for other clients. Is there a market for it? Do you mind if I e-mail you?
