Questions about Review Copy Etiquette

I'm not sure of the most effective way to go about offering review copies and would welcome the advice of other warriors (preferably from those who've navigated these waters before).

As a newcomer to the market, it's important that I have a couple reviews but I don't want to blindly throw copies around to people that either don't want them or only wanted a freebie.

Sending the offer to my list isn't an option as my list members and the marketplace don't cross. I prefer to have reviews from the marketplace where I'm selling. So in essence starting from scratch.

Should I simply offer the first few copies as review copies and hope that the takers fulfill their end by leaving a review? If I offer 10 free copies could I realistically expect 10 reviews?

Should I select a few warriors that I respect and ask them to offer an honest review? Would it be considered rude to approach other members and ask for a review? I would feel intrusive asking for another busy warrior's time in this manner especially if they couldn't get to it within a week or so.

Should I handle it the same way I handled my Warrior for Hire ad and offer a reduced rate? I know this works for services but not sure how it will pan out with a product.

Any other ideas? Which way is better?

Personally, before you launch the WSO i would contact reputable Warriors and ask them to review the product for you as you are planning to launch it and you would really appreciate there insight and also if there is anything better you can do.

This will help you create a better product and the review will genuinely be honest as they would not feel they would be "embarrassing" you in front of others.

That is what i would do personally, but some other Warriors might chime in.

You might improve the odds if you offer the "review copies" only to Warriors who've been here more than <some time-period> or even have a post-count above <some-number>? Maybe ...

Yes, by most people, I think.

You certainly shouldn't approach people you don't already know just to ask them to review your product, in my opinion. Though it isn't expressly against the rules, many people think it's not legitimate at all.

I think people strongly prefer (and understandably give far more credibility to) reviews written by paying customers than those supplied in exchange for a free product.

I would suggest one of these three things: 1. Find reputable Warriors and ask them if they would be willing to review your product. 2. Offer review copies but only to people with say... 100+ posts. People who post here a lot are more likely to understand how important the review is. 3. Offer review copies at a discount instead of for free. This will get rid of the freebie seekers that are going to take and leave. When I posted my thread I had one review from a Warrior I worked with in the past. I then offered one free review article and 5 half price articles. I ended up getting 3 reviews.

No, although apparently this isn't expressly against the rules, it really isn't a very good idea, either, as you can see here.

I don't know ... opinions will differ (as always), I expect. The thread linked to did clarify that this isn't specifically against the rules, it must be said ... though I think it's fair to comment also that it showed that many people do regard it as a problem.

In other words, it wasn't only me!

I think the answer, in so far as there is one, is probably to wait until you do know some suitable people, before you start selling anything here, if you want your "reviews" ready to go when you start? :confused:

Thanks for that link, I was concerned about blindly contacting other warriors because I don't want to "get thrown a digital beat down" over a review.

Now I'm torn between either War Room member only copies or over X post count. I would say 100 but I don't even have 100.

No, but you will do by the time a couple of other people reply and you reply to them. With apologies, I can't offer to look at it for you, because "plr" is outside my awareness/interests, really. But others reading this thread may perhaps offer ...

I believe in the "Make Money Online" Section a marketer was offering review copies quite some time ago. I picked it up and actually reviewed it. Honestly. Weather the other people did, i don't know!

Certainly a good approach, although many Warriors certainly want to see the reviews live in the forum, since many are unsure if a product is worth their hard earned money and lives up to all claims/promises.

Direct contact is great for testing the waters, but they do not substitute "public reviews" in my opinion.

I've saw people offering review copies in the internet marketing product reviews section as well, though I don't know for sure if that is acceptable here on the forum.

I recommend getting reviews from people that have a certain number of posts (100-200+). People really respect those that have more posts. It shouldn't matter that much really, but when you get into the WSO threads and see reviews from people with 10 or even 50 posts, you will hear a lot of others saying, "Yeah, I'll wait for reviews from seasoned/reputable/etc Warriors."

You could do this before or as you publish your WSO. If you do it as soon as the WSO goes live, you don't have to worry about being an annoyance to certain Warriors here that do not liked to he PM'ed about a review copy. Personally, I have reviewed quite a few here, and I really enjoy it, especially if it's in an area of IM that I want to learn more about.
