Are you a beginner? Read this...

I was perusing DP a few weeks back and came across a post from another member who was looking for someone to re-write articles for them. They paid $2 for each re-write.

I took the job because I wanted to get some writing practice in (yes you read that right) and figured why not get paid while I do it.

Now I know what your thinking. "$2 for rewriting an article is chump-change. How am I going to generate any sizable income doing that?" Well here's how. The guy provided me with 15 articles to rewrite and needed them done in a week.

He stated there was another 15 waiting for me if things worked out well. So off I went. I finished rewriting the articles in my spare time. It took roughly two days for me to finish. He liked them and then sent the 15 more as promised.

I completed another 15 articles and felt I had distanced myself enough away from my own niche that I could jump back into it, so I declined an additional 15 articles he wanted to send my way.

This immediately got me thinking. Why are beginners not doing this? It's not all that hard. Your research is done. As long as you can put things into your own words you'd be able to ace this easily.

15 x $2 = $30

On top of that the guy gave you a whole seven days to finish the project.

Now I bet I know what your thinking. "That's a whole lot of work for little pay." Your right it probably is. It's not anything I would've done if I wasn't looking for something to write while I distanced myself from a niche I was struggling with.

BUT when I was a beginner and didn't have any other sources of revenue, this easily would have provided me with the cash fix I was looking for.

So look at this way. Your new, a beginner and your spending hours and hours reading forums just like this one--looking, no desperately seeking the answer to your burning questions.

Or you could take one hour out of your day (or two depending on how fast you write) and do some article rewriting. Get all 15 done in a week and you'd have $30/weekly.

That's not some pie-in-the-sky method either, that's an honest to good-ness actionable plan.

$30/week would add up to $120/month easily. At that point you've made more money in a month than most beginners would make in an entire year.

Anyways, just an idea I wanted to share with those who are struggling. Is putting this plan into work exciting? Probably not, but would you rather have cash now or wait six months for your first $100 adsense check?

Good way for a beginer writer to enhanced thier skills.

Aso they could also fund IM start up costs for a host account and domain names with $30.00.

        Blogging Pro,
Thanks for a great post. So many times you see the dreaded newbie questions and think here we go again. They have information overload and don't know where to start.

It would be so great if more of them do something like this. Anything that gets them past being stuck and just taking action.

This is a wonderful idea. I might try this just to see how well it works so the next time I have a beginner ask me where to start I can tell them, re-writes.

Somehow almost every beginner that comes into IM don't want to put in hard work... they just want the end results... the magic pill... Look at all the threads popping up here and you can see for yourself... "How can I make $XXXX/month without investing any of my own money etc"
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[3939997].message }}
  • Sorry, BloggingPro, but I'm new here; what is "DP"? Also, would you mind giving your thoughts on my thread about creating a "tree trunk blog"? I can't post a link here yet since I don't have enough posts, but since it seems like you're very much into blogging, you might be able to help.

    Thanks!

I think this is a great idea for someone getting started. When I started online I wrote articles on a site called myams.net. It does not make a lot of money, but it is a good way to get your feet wet.

Great advice. Too many people new to IM want to hit a home run right away. Every bit helps, no matter how little or large. Even if it pays to register a domain or a couple months of hosting, it's better than sitting around looking for the next magic bullet.

There are lots of offers out there for people who wanna make some money, the problem is whether they want to do it or not.

People are expecting too much from "make money online", they expect to earn $1000/month without working hard.

Great responses thus far from everyone. All I can say is that I wish I would have discovered this when I first started as I could've easily used that money to jump start my internet marketing plans.

Things have worked out regardless, but its the sharing of information that keeps today's beginners from struggling for as long as I did. I hope that anybody who read this and is struggling beginner takes the simple actionable plan and puts it to good use.

  • Hi BloggingPro. If I were a beginner writer wanting to earn income online, without a website and a business email, I'd:

STEP 1. Sign up to Constant-Content.Com...

STEP 2. Study the posted public requests there and do 5 to 10 of those high paying content writing gigs ==>> Most Constant-Content.Com content buyers are willing to spend $50 for a 1000++-word unique, high quality article/product review/report...

STEP 3. Constant-Content.Com allows you to post part of your material for the buyers to see it, so I'd do that then contact the buyers via the website and point them to the materials I completed: Tadah! I now have a set of sample materials to show other potential clients...

STEP 4. I'd go to Web forums about Internet marketing, SEO/SEM, backlink building, article marketing, affiliate marketing, etc.

STEP 5. I'd register with those Web forums, update my profile page details, i.e. Photos/Images and the URL of my profile page in Constant-Content.com...

STEP 6. I'd build my reputation as a friendly, niche-expert resource of beneficial content in those Web forums. How? I'd show them my content writing expertise by contributing useful content in the form of info, advice, techniques, strategies and tips in discussion threads related to content writing/development, ebook writing or digital info product development, SEO/SEM and other Internet marketing-related topics...

STEP 7. I'd advertise my services in the marketplaces of those Web forums, pointing a link to my profile page in Constant-Content.Com so potential clients can see my previous work...

STEP 8. I'd continue completing the public requests of Constant-Content.Com buyers, pointing those buyers to my completed work, contributing beneficial content in those Web forums and advertising my content writing services there...

STEP 9. I'd spend the money I earned on a domain and hosting plus my free time to install an excellent looking Wordpress theme and useful plugins, among other things, such as writing content for my website and updating my profile page links on those Web forums, as well as dedicating a page on my website to show my previous Constant-Content.Com work and newly written content samples...

STEP 10. I'd then develop training materials for writing content, use the money I earned in Facebook advertising to get other writers interested in earning money online to go through my free training materials and online coaching sessions and become a part of my content writing team, with me as the marketing strategist, Q/A editor and project manager so I'd have a cut from their earnings...

STEP 11. I'd ramp up what I do in step 8 above to get more clients who need more content, because I can accommodate more orders since I have a team of trained writers in my group, and also develop more content for my website, especially the sales pages of my service offers, including an easy ordering system and secure payment options as well as convenient service guarantees...

STEP 12. I'd train one of "my" best writers to become the Q/A editor, the marketing strategist and the project manager, then hire them for those posts...

I'd then do marketing work on those Web forums, contact corporations that need content writing services to offer the services of "my" group and do step 10 above whenever it's necessary to grow my "group". I'd register my business, get an office and hire inhouse staff, including administrative personnel, then grow my business by contacting potential subcontractors, more so the best writers who have been working in "my" group for the longest and convince them to find qualified people, train them and hire them as their own employees, at a time I have more than enough long term contracts from my corporate clients...

Oh wait: That's what I exactly did when I was just 25, as detailed by this thread, to now have a $200K-asset, $10K++/monthly-net-profit company, with my eyes closed, since I've been totally blind for more than 7 years now, and if I can do it with my eyes closed, then what could you do with your eyes wide open, provided you set your mind to it? My guess is:

    Pretty much anything...

It won't be easy, yes. It's simple, yes. It's hard work, yes. And, quoting Jon Morrow: "At some point, I guarantee you'll want to quit. I guarantee people will treat you like you're insane. I guarantee you'll cry yourself to sleep, wondering if you made a horrible mistake... But never stop believing in yourself. The world is full of naysayers, all of them eager to shout you down at the slightest indication you might transcend mediocrity, but the greatest sin you can commit is to yourself become one of them. Our job isn't to join that group, but to silence it, to accomplish things so great and unimaginable that its members are too awed to speak"...

  • Great post bloggingpro and seems like a real win/win strategy.

First off you get to build up the reserve of cash you need when you first off and secondly you get to improve your writing skills and learn a whole bunch of stuff about other subjects while you re-write the articles.

That seems to me to be a great way to get an IM education that will stand you in really good stead later on for blogging/commenting and writing articles yourself.

    Thanks for sharing.

Yeah definitely. It's that starting point that I think a lot of beginners are clueless about--and thats fine to be clueless, I was too!

I just see tons of posts from beginners that are looking for some "easy" money. Honestly if you can put things into your own words this should be easy enough and earn you a modest $30 a week.

As long as the guy kept providing you with articles (which he seemed to be able to do for at least a few more weeks in my case) then you could generate $30 a week until you were ready to move onto a larger revenue generating project.

Another great technique would be to provide the service yourself right here on the forum. I know of many beginning and advanced marketers alike that do this to generate a very size able income online.

For any newbies to IM, I would recommend doing article rewrites and also writing original articles for somebody like Textbroker to get started. First, it generates a little income with which to purchase domains, pay for hosting, etc. and second, being able to write unique content has now become even more important after the Google Panda.

This is the way I got started, and I still write my own content today.

I would suggest approaching local business owners and offering your services directly. If you know your way around websites you can make some money doing website audits for people. Don't feel you should start at such a low price, if you want to make money and you're good at what you do, start with a high quote and be prepared to negotiate down rather than starting at the bottom end.

I've written an article about blogging today which may be of use to some people on here.
