Somebody just kick me in the a$$ for being stupid out of season

I logged into my AdWords account yesterday and nearly
cried. I was shocked at how much my bill has piled up this
month, but it's my own fault.

I haven't run AdWords campaigns for awhile because I always
seem to spend more than I make, so I had pretty much given
up on it.

But earlier this month I remembered I have a package of
holiday products, so I thought I'd start an ad campaign to
sell some.

Well, I forgot I had started it and I didn't login to
AdWords again until yesterday. What I saw shocked the hell
out of me - $163+ and I haven't made one single sale.
Arrrrrrrgggg!

Worse yet, I had also forgotten to turn off the content
network so the biggest majority of clicks came from
untargeted traffic. (I'm sure the sites my ads ran on made
some decent money, though. lol)

I was so mad at myself when I discovered this. I've
never forgotten about my campaigns before. I
normally check them every day, adjust my daily budget
and/or turn them off when they're not making money.

The moral of the story?

DON'T forget about something this important in your
business. While $163 won't break me, it's a helluva beating
when I could have fixed the problem by turning off the ads,
adjusting my budget or re-written the sales page for better
conversions.

<going to beat myself up now>

I'm sorry that happened to you Denise. Don't beat yourself up over it. I know it's hard not to, because you probably could have done better things with that money.

Look at it as a lesson learned. When my husband & I started in the stock market, we didn't listen to our instincts about a certain stock and lost about $20,000. Expensive mistake, but one we never made again.

Definitely! Especially at this time of the year.

Oh, yea, I learned a lesson, alright... don't forget when I have AdWords running.

OUCH! I'm very thankful that my situation is no where near that bad. I'm sorry to hear you
      lost so much.

"Ouch" I know that hurts but I've done that deliberately. I was promoting a Learn To Speak Spanish a while back.

Daily budget was set to $100.00 but never spent that much. Per click cost went down as my ad rose above the publisher on page one of Google search to position #4.

    My target was #3.

    Content network was not selected.

    Results-over 2400 clicks
    Sales -0-

I refused to believe that there were no sales and plowed through $260 some odd dollars over a couple weeks before I let go of this turkey.

    I feel your pain.

    Consider yourself kicked, Denise

But look at the bright side... it could have been one helluva lot more money.

This is true, and luckily it wasn't. I'd hate to see what the bill would have been if
I hadn't logged in yesterday. lol

Thanks for reminding me of the 'bright side.'

Believe me ... you've got no "exclusive" on this one!

        Nope! We're in good company!
Hate to admit it ... but my little "oops" cost considerably more. Let's just say I'm trying to be MUCH more diligent now.

Don't you hate those big "oopses?" They can be a real
          pain in the rear end.

I once spent $400+ in one month on AdWords, but it
was on several ad campaigns, not just one. And while I
didn't even come close to breaking even, I did at least
make some sales. That's when I stopped using
AdWords, though, because I was spending 4 times what
I was making. Not very good conversions.

This forget thing has happened to me often enough that I finally
have the technical explanation for it. It is a photographic memory,
but the lens cap is glued on, the little button that you push is
stuck, and there's no film in the camera. (Mine isn't digital.)

And here I thought I was just suffering from CRS (Can't Remember
Sh**, for anyone who's not familiar with the term. ) I guess it
might just be that my camera is broken, too.
