I'm currently working for a digital signage company as an internet marketer. Because this is strictly B2B, it is different from marketing to the mass consumers.

For all you internet/local marketers out there, any ideas/strategies that can generate some leads?

Aside from getting your site to rank high (good luck with that, considering your niche) you might want to consider networking in sites such as linkedin, facebook or get exposure from websites within your target market. I have very successfully been generating B2B leads primarily by writing product related articles for high authority websites, ezine publishers, and offline publications such as trade journals, magazines, newspapers etc.

In process, it's not different. You want to get qualified traffic to an offer or a squeeze page. In the case of most B2B companies you do lead generation and capture the prospects name. This is then followed up by a sales person or you can also lead nurture through email or other means.

Is SEO relevant? Yes. Is paid traffic relevant? Yes. Is article marketing? Probably not as much value for traffic, but holds some small value for SEO. However, you may look at trying articles in retail or quick service restaurant magazine or sites, which could generate traffic.

What I think you should consider is how you can provide the most value to your employer. Get the lead and track everything that happens with that lead. If you want to track calls, use IfByPhone or something similar.

I'd start by driving paid traffic to see what converts and then SEO for those words.
