    Hi Robert,

    Nice post.

It makes sense really because it's one of the few ways you can build up a relationship with a customer without being face to face.

You can be very "unsalesy" and provide useful information they're looking for, not to mention asking them what they're looking for, without the usual time constraints of a site, blog or whatever where you only have a limited time to convince them to buy your stuff, hence the opt in form

I also think it's probably the best way to build up a customer for life list.

I very rarely do email marketing these days but it doesn't seem to have caused me any problems - maybe I'm just leaving money on the table.

I feel like people have enough email coming at them so I don't want to give them yet another email to check out once their email system has bloated full of new messages.

Which means that stat is definitely not true for me. Makes you wonder what business model was being used. It sounds like a heavily email marketing based business.

      Hi Andy,

I do agree with the above. I was answering the question purely from one side of my business, namely affiliate marketing, where I find I get far more sales from people that signed up for my list than I do from the sales page, having been to my pre sell page.

Having said that, maybe that says more about my pre sell pages and I'm in fact leaving money on the table

    Hi Robert,

Just curious - where are these stats from?
Is that figure 67% of YOUR sales based on your own figures, or is that figure some industry wide number?
If that is for the whole industry/sector then would you mind linking to the source so that we can take a look.

    Many thanks!
