Why Do Most Internet Marketers Use Paypal Exclusively

I am a bit curious as to why some internet marketers including the WSO use paypal exclusively to receive money making it difficult for people that Paypal does not support their country, unable to purchase their product.

My country which happens to have the highest population in Africa, the highest internet usage in Africa (Check out stats), the second highest usage of Getresponse after the U.S.A. and the fastest growing telecoms country in Africa, points to the fact that a lot of us are active users and purchase information from the internet. Unfortunately Paypal and Clickbank do not support my country and a lot of internet marketers do not realize that they are loosing a big market because most of us cannot purchase their products. Most of us that want to purchase through Paypal often have to go through brokers which is expensive and cumbersome.

I have found out that some smart internet marketers have figured this out, and now use payment processors that incorporate payment with credit cards that allow my country , they also include Paypal. But, the payment with credit cards allow such countries that Paypal does not support, able to purchase their products. An e.g. of such payment processors that can be used are 2Checkout and Plimus . They include credit cards processing and paypal too.

So why is it that most internet marketers do not wish to tow this line and make more money? Why use Paypal exclusively?

Paypal just makes is so darned easy to get started, and other payment processors can be a real pain to set up. It took me weeks to set up merchant facilities with my bank, and lots of forms to fill in.

A lot of marketers stick with PayPal because of its huge market share, which carries with it a level of "trust" that their competitors don't really have as of right now. Another issue is that PayPal is free to set up and requires no credit check, whereas other solutions have a set-up fee and/or may require a credit check.

Yet another reason is that many online marketers are selling downloadable products, and PayPal can automate the delivery. Last time I checked, Google Checkout doesn't have an automated delivery process in place. Amazon Simple Pay does, but the main drawback to that is that there's no shopping cart (which PayPal does offer), so the customer has to purchase products individually if he or she wants to buy more than one thing from the same seller.

Agree with Remington, PayPal is easy to use, Free to use, if you don't have PayPal Account, you still can pay with your Credit Card too. Plus PayPal has a Buyer Security, you can issued a refund or asked for refund, Credit card doesn't have this feature. Still, PayPal refund procedure has flaws, but it's better than none.

Thank you for all replying to my post. So far from what I can see here, the reason most marketers use Paypal is because, its free to set up, easy to set up, allows shopping cart, downloadable products good refund policies and has a large following.

In my experience as a web designer in my country, I have had clients that want to receive money from the internet which would include Paypal so I think I've had some experience

I would answer kmason first. I believe 3rd credit card processors like 2CO and PLimus are supposed to take care of the pain of setting up a merchant account with a bank. For $50 one can set up an account to receive both Paypal and credit cards.

In response to people having a choice of Paypal over others, the credit card processors of 2CO and PLimus, etc gives anyone an option of either purchasing your product through traditional credit card processing and Paypal.

In response to the shopping cart, I have used 2CO (2checkout.com ) for a client to set up a shopping cart and this allows downloadable product and they have a refund policy.

Why i started this post and asked the question is that, I just listened to one guys sales video message for a product (the sales video was very good I must say), and I was thinking to myself, ok this is good, but I am sure he uses Paypal like other Internet marketers, but when I hit the download button, he used Plimus. PLimus gave me an option to pay him with either through Paypal or credit card. They even went the extra length of detecting my country and converting the amount for the product which is in dollars to my county's currency. I just smiled to myself and was so happy and guess what I made payments immediately.

After I purchased, I thought to myself, why can't other marketers be like this chap. That's why i am writing this. He ued Plimus which gave me an option to pay him either with Paypal or credit cards. 2CO also does this.

So I think this answers KunTaoM reply about the large following of Paypal. All I am saying is that Internet Marketers should give people options to purchase their products.

Paypal is not the only means to collect money. I think a lot of people have not tried other options and this includes products sold at the WSO. Do you know how many product I have seen in the WSO that I cannot purchase, simply because they only receive Paypal. You have seen the stats of internet users in my country, there are hundreds of my friends, maybe thousands in this forum my country that cannot purchase your WSO product and others which use Paypal exclusively.

WSO is maybe a different thing... there's a WarriorPlus payment system in place which use PayPal AND it has an integrated affiliate system in it. So I guess it's more welcome to use the warriorplus with PayPal and all the affiliate sales over accepting all the cards without an easy to use integrated affiliate system.

Remington pointed out the big things - but the major factor, especially with WSO's, is that most of the market already uses paypal.

You wouldn't believe how many people ask, when given the choice between credit card and paypal, will take paypal.

That is why so many online businesses use it.

Most internet marketers use Paypal because it is simply easy to use, convenient, safe and secure. Also, Paypal accept payments in the form of twenty-three currencies, accepts debit and credit cards, and you can easily track all your transaction.

When it comes to providing their financial information, online users are hesitant to go with brands that they're not familiar with - so PayPal's their best bet in terms of reliability and security.

It's really easy to use PayPal. When offered the choice of digging out your card, entering the number, expiry date etc, OR clicking a button with an already setup card in PayPal, many people will choose the easier PayPal route.

It also feels less like spending money because you're not entering card details again!

I used to offer 2CO and paypal, but 90% of customers chose paypal. Now I guess that I'm not actually losing the other 10% when not offering 2CO anymore. Most of them might use Paypal easily when there's no other choice.

Not using multiple payment processors makes things a lot easier, not only in setting up the sales process, but also in tax accounting. (which can be a pain in the ... in Germany)

I still think for all it's faults, and it does have faults, PayPal is ubiquitous.
Almost everyone has heard of it, and most have an account. That would be enough reason alone for it to dominate the online check out/pay methods.

PayPal is very trusted and used by thousands. Most small businesses like PayPal (I know I do) because it is a very easy to use payment processor that has a lot of existing clients.

However, a solution I use to overcome PayPal is Clickbank. Clickbank support credit cards, PayPal and much, much, more.

Maybe in IM PayPal is accepted and trusted but in my 'offline' sales training business I split-tested and offered PayPal as a secondary payment option to credit cards and my sales conversion dropped!

I still don't know why people think a merchant account is so hard to get. Maybe if you go to one of the big banks it is but there are plenty that can get you up and running over the phone/fax in under 24 hours....

When I come across an offer I like, and the company is using paypal to process payments, I think less about making the purchase when I've a few dollars lying in my paypal account than if I have to get my credit card out.

The paypal system makes it easy to spend dollars without having to justify the purchase to anyone other than myself - and that's probably why most marketers are still using it, because it makes it easy for the prospects to pay.

Is there any other payment processor which allows two-way transactions like paypal does?? Maybe that's their stroke of genius that keeps us all hooked.

because of the network effect:the more people using it, the more power it has

like Facebook would be nowhere if no one used it. The more friends you have on facebook, the more power it has to pull you on there too. If no one were on Twitter it would be pretty dumb. If "everyones on Twitter" you must be too.

    Same goes for Microsoft.

There could be a better computer software system out there but Microsoft already runs on most machines and that is what people have become accustomed to. Programs are compatible with it and what not.

      What planet are you on?

Microsoft shares are way below the shares of another computer (and software) company. They kept their products at basically crap level, while the underdogs were innovative, creative and imaginative.

Oh yes, the other company can run 99% of Microsoft software too - and it doesn't get viruses.

      You know who, but I'll spell it out - A P P L E

      Your argument doesn't hold water.

I have experienced this as well. The majority of my clients expect and demand that they be able to pay via Paypal, and this is what they seem to be most comfortable with. No sense in rocking the boat if you don't have to, especially if it results in decreased sales.

Now, I do get occasional requests for payment methods other than Paypal, but those are few and far in between, and this is simply not enough to justify sticking another one or two payment buttons on my page.

    Hey Samo

By default I offer PayPal simply because it has more consumer confidence, meaning that my clients prefer to pay that way.

For buyers that don't have access to PayPal I offer other ways of paying upon request.

I think it is just a matter of serving the majority - most of my clients want PayPal and so that is what I offer.

Paypal was already well known even before eBay snapped it up, and I'm sure its reputation was a driving factor behind their acquisition of it.

Paypal is easy... you get paid instantly, than you can do whatever needs to be done...pay your vendor, pay yourself etc.
With companies such plimus or similar, all is good until you get to the part where you are getting paid...in most cases you get paid at the end of the month, they keep your money for a whole month and if you need to pay someone (in case of resale), you need to use your own money.
For big companies it is probably not an issue, but for a small business it is not acceptable...that's probably the biggest thing with it...
off course, this is only my opinion...
