Starting Fresh with TAF

Hey Guys,

I've been looking at internet marketing for years now, doing little things but never taking it seriously and never making any kind of real money.

I am starting to re-evaluate and I would love to work at home with my wife and new child. So I am giving it a fresh start and going to actually work hard at this thing.

The first thing I wanted to start to research a bit deeper is the tell a friend scripts. These seem like a great way to boost the flow of traffic to a website. Plus it doesn't require work beyond setup so it's a passive source.

But as far as I know they aren't mainstream and not everyone uses them. This would indicate to me that they aren't as effective as they would seem at first.

Is this because people use them in the wrong places?

Does anyone know where in the "marketing funnel" is the best place to put a simple Tell a Friend script? Should it be right after the opt in? Or maybe put somewhere that would enable your visitors to receive/view your product before telling their friends about it? Could someone with some experience in this field shine some light on this for me?

Thanks!

There are 100 things you should focus on before tell a friend scripts.

Sounds like you're chasing a magic button that will make all your dreams come true.

    What is your actual business?

    Hey again,

So far with what I have learned, one way to get started in IM is to do research, create a product & website, and drive traffic to it.

Where should I start if research isn't the first step?

And Chris, I appreciate the smart remark, but can you explain why you think tell a friend scripts are garbage?

    Thanks,

Sure research is a great place to start.

      So...

      What niche are you targeting?
What needs/wants/pains/desires/dreams/fears etc do they have?
What products are you going to create to provide the answers to the above?
How are you going to get traiffc?
What is your underlying business model?

These are just a handful of the questions you should answer before you worry about TAF scripts.

(Unless you have a very large list you probably won't see any significant results from TAF anyway.)

Forget about the tricks and technical stuff for the moment and get your business sorted out first.

Hey Kyle thanks for the reply,

The niche I am going to target is the IM niche, specifically how to boost the amount of traffic you're getting without spending a bunch more money on adwords, leads, etc.

Marketers in this niche are always looking for more ways to get traffic, since in almost all cases more traffic equates to more prospects and more sales. I was thinking about doing this with tell a friend scripts or variations of them.

I am planning to create a script that will take the bugs out of the cheap tell a friend scripts that you get off google, and make it to actually work in a marketing program. Also an ebook that will explain how to get the most out of them.

To get traffic I realize that a tell a friend script won't do it, since it requires traffic to work. So this is one thing that I am exploring as well at the moment.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,

Ah OK, you want to sell a TAF, not just use one. Gotcha.

Personally I've not seen any good results from TAF. Leads that come in this way just don't convert. The only real success stories I've seen are the testimonials on the TAF salesletters. That should tell you something.

There are already a few good scripts on the market that were promoted with big launches, so my first step would be to find people who are already use them and ask them a few questions...

      Do they work?
What do you like about them?
      What don't you like?
      How would you improve them?
      Would you buy another one?

      Etc.

Figure out if there is a real need for a new TAF. My gut says no (at least not without a big name launch) but I could be wrong.
