Clickbank conversion rate

This is just a shot in the dark, but is there anyway to estimate the conversion rate of a clickbank product before you actually promote it?

It seems like gravity is more of an indication of how well something is selling, but not necessarily indicative of the conversion rate. Wouldn't that mean that there are probably plenty of high converting offers with high search amounts just nobody promoting them because every new affiliate is eagerly promoting the same old products?

  • There are so many factors involved in how a product converts that you would have to test it yourself.

    • Yea I don't think there really is. The 'sales funnel' has so many different channels that it is impossible to predict a conversion rate.
What you need to do though is try to fine tune that funnel as best you can.
So it starts with getting the right visitor to your site. You want someone that is actually looking for what you are offering them on your site. Someone sitting down with their wallet out ready to spend. This is known as targeted traffic and can make a huge difference to your conversions. A great way to get this kind of traffic is ranking well in Google for the right keyword.

Then you have your actual page. If you are sending people to an affiliate product, you need to somehow warm them up, or at least keep them pumped to be buying what they are about to see.

As I said, so many different funnels that people come through to end up at that final place where they see the price of the product. You need to try and put yourself in their shoes though, and think what funnel would you like to come down which would make you buy the product.

The gravity score does not show you anything more than how many affiliates have made at least one sale of that product in a set period of time. There would be a lot of Clickbank products with very low gravity scores (ie: no one is promoting them) that convert very well. But most rookie affiliates will use the gravity score as an indication as to what is selling well so those low gravity products often never get a chance.

The only way to know for sure is to test the product yourself. If we could predict the conversion rate of Clickbank products before we promoted them then there would be a lot more people making a killing on Clickbank.

True but then it probably won't be easy finding a winner by picking offers willy nilly.

It seems like ClickBank could offer up this information. I am sure that they know what that the current conversion rate is for a product. I wonder why they don't add this info for us?

I don't think Clickbank can know the conversion rate since not all traffic is coming through affiliate links. Only the product owner can know except it might not be all that convincing coming from him.

Ahh good call. But, clickbank does know the number of referrals to a landing page / the total product sales. This is not an exact conversion rate, but they could give some insight.

They probably don't add it because the conversion rates are so low and would scare away affiliates. You would be lucky if you got 3% conversions on a product there.
