Amazon Affiliate Investment - $25?

Good morning fellow Warriors,

So...my burning question is, "Is $25 enough to set up my Amazon Affiliate Marketing Venture?"

I would be looking to find a niche with the assistance of keyword research and create a productnamereview.com site

The things I believe I would need, and potentially could cost me:

1) A domain name - godaddy? Was thinking and heard this is the best place?
2) A host - host gator? Again, Ive heard they're the ones to go with?
3) Is that it? I believe Wordpress is free?

Thanks,

Chris

    Chris,

You can quite easily do it for nothing if cash is currently an issue. Use Hubpages, Squidoo, and Blogspot. They all allow you to create links to your Amazon products and allow you to work out the whole process with pretty quick results until you have enough spare money to use and a clear plan of attack.

      Hi Troy,

Thanks for your advice. I've heard that using Blogspot puts people off and doesn't come across as professional as domain named sites that use, say, Wordpress for their creation?

I agree you can use amazon for zero. This past Christmas, I took a few kids toys and wrote articles. They were new products so less competition. After the articles were indexed with my affiliate link (within a day), I was getting a few hundred clicks a day which turned out to be a couple thousand $$. Not bad at Christmas time.

Look for Amazon's new release products. Excellent way of finding a nice niche.

    G'day Chris,

I have heard some say that when starting out to use free resources like squidoo etc to guage how popular your niche is. So you could try wordpress but my preference and advice would be to buy a domain and host it like you said so that you have complete control over it.

Your first task is to decide what your site will do. Will it review 5 products in a niche? 10 types of product in a niche? For example, you could pick the 5 most popular blenders, then review blenders by brand, blenders by price range etc

After I have done the above I will work on the domain name. My preference now after trial and error is to include the words "best", "reviews" or "online". So www .BestBlendersOnline.com could be my name.

    How to choose a product.
My computer is in the dining room and if I did a 360 in my chair I can see well over 100 different products. I write down 20 seed keywords such as side table, ceramic pot plant, floor coverings, dining room furniture, iron and ironing board, lounge suite, light shades, juicer, fan forced oven, flat pack pantry, leather wallet, wall heater.............That was in my line of sight quickly.

Use GAKT and put seed words in one-by-one to find possibilities then dig deeper with those.
There are many posts here telling of way to determine what to go for. Browse around and look for posts from credible Amazon affiliates.

Here is the kicker Chris. Do something, anything, every day towards getting to your goal and you will succeed. I wish you enormous success mate

Its always better to have your own domain and hosting. Those free WEB 2.0 properties can always close your account without warning.

I would go for namecheap for domain, you also get free private protection for 1 year, go daddy doesn't offer that.

And for hosting go for hostgator. Google "hostgator coupon code" and you should find code to get your 1st month for only 1 cent.

Blogspot is one of the free hosts that allows you to add a custom domain with no additional charge. You can start building search ranking for a domain you can later transfer to paid hosting, but with an initial cost of only $10/yr.

2nd this, if you are just starting out start your first website with blogger, pay for a domain name and your hosting is free with google without the addition of annoying ads or a subdomain

I'd advise you strongly not to do that, Chris.

You need to build your business on your own hosting, not on Blogger's, even if you buy the domain-name yourself.

This very recent thread will interest you.

$25 should be plenty for you set up what you need, and start earning.

Thanks Alexa. I was reading that thread earlier today, which is partly why I asked my last questions. I thought it wouldn't be a good idea. However, I am reading conflicting stories about using Wordpress for my first site. Am I good to use it for, say, a review site for Amazon Affiliation?

            Thanks,

Wordpress software, from wordpress.org, installed/uploaded into your own hosting (whether it's free hosting or paid-for), yes, absolutely: no problem at all - you can use it for whatever you like. It's your property (even if you host it at byethost.com or on other free hosting) and you get to make up the rules about what's allowed there.

Wordpress's own hosting at wordpress.com: absolutely not. Nothing monetised in any way is allowed there, and it would be deleted as soon as they see it - a complete non-starter, because of their terms of service. It's their property and they get to make up the rules about what's allowed there.

It's better to have your own domain, OP. Then you can do with the traffic whatever you like. You don't have to worry about whether or not your blog will be deleted, you can CHANGE the product/offer if you want as well. You don't have to stick strickly to Amazon. If you play your cards right, you can make that money back in a matter of days to weeks. Most likely days.Just so you know, super affiliates DON'T focus on making money via hubpages or squidoo. They own their own domains.

Yup Chris - you can do this for the $25 budget you outlined. Pretty simple stuff.

Versus what I do here are the only differences you'll be doing:

                      1) I use Thesis Theme for my review sites. You'll go with a free theme and there are lots of nice ones.

                      2) I hire writers to write my reviews. You will write your own. Simple enough.

                      3) I use UAW to backlink. It costs me $67 per month plus the cost of having articles written. You will use free tools like EZA, blog commenting, social bookmarking, etc.

There is always a way to go cheap. This is the best place to start because then you can prove and LEARN the business model before you pay for stuff you don't necessarily understand.

Focus your sites on adding value for the readers. Soft sell. Just get people to visit amazon to read more reviews, see a list of best sellers in a category, etc. Avoid being pushy. Make ALL images clickable to Amazon.

My other advice is that when you build a few sites focus on the winners. You are always better to have 1 or 2 BIGGER sites than 10 or 20 smaller ones. Your bigger ones will generate more money. Review more products, etc.

                      Chris

I would agree with the one poster look up Namecheap for the domain. Than tie it in with the Hatchling Package from Hostgator, if you are only going to set up one site now. When you want to up grade just send in a request. Hostgator is very easy to work with.
I have not made any money from Squidoo and do not recommend them. After the Google changes, I would stay away from the Squidoo and Hubpages as a source of serious income.

          OK, so you're saying:

          1) Buy the domain from namecheap.com
          2) Host it with Hostgator on the Hatchling Plan?
          3) Use blogger?

I definitely think so because of how easy it is. You would just need hosting and a domain and sometimes not even that!

Domains and hosting are much easier than taking the squidoo route though.

I spent about that Much on domain(godaddy), hosting(hostgator) and filippino VA(odesk) to find the viable keywords, set it up with some original content (took me a total of 3 hours to write) and my amazon site is now #4 on SERPS, making money on autopilot. Some months more, some months less. I went with a basic free theme, nothing fancy. No backlinks, no articles, just good keyword selection and on page seo. If I spent more time to make it fancy and rank it #1, it would have higher conversions. I'll make more amazon niche sites like this, they should pay all my bills and free me to build more business.

Hi Chris. I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. You can purchase a domain from go daddy as you said but you can also go for 123-reg. I didn’t know about the free private web at namecheap. If I knew I would have gone with them (£5 from 123-reg and $10 from go daddy irrc, basically means internet users can not readily get your information from whois.net or similar.

As said the guys above pretty much know what they are on about but I was under the same assumption as you, go for my own hosting as I have better control. I currently use supremehoster which is only £1.99 a month which is pretty much nothing. I found there customer support excellent and they even install wordpress on your website for you. After this you can just logon to your wordpress admin page and you can change themes, add plugins etc very easily .
