Why are some people using SBI?

Hello, I made this Post on another Forum (Website Babble) and got a really harsh feedback. I Seriously don't know why people use this still? All of the things it offers can be done for free , For example Wordpress has ten times the functionality of SBI?

Have any of you used SBI? Because to me it's not worth it.

I used it in my early days. I found it made creating site harder than using another tool such as wordpress or a HTML editor. For example say you want to add adsense or analytics later. You need to add it to every page individually. That really sucks for a $300/year program.

So I wouldn't bother with it unless you really need to be held by the hand. Remember their motto is a tortoise - it's a "slow" programme and that is reflected in their forums when you see them talk about how much they earn ($3000 a month would make you a TOP guru there!)

I thought it was excellent at the time, but then I discovered the WF

Wordpress + Adwords External Tool would give you better results, more quickly.

    Here is my take.

I've had SBI sites. I have 3 right now.

I'm going to move 2 of these to new hosts as SBI is too expensive. I'll keep 1 on SBI to see how it goes and might change it still.

SBI is far too expensive when you consider you have to pay €300 per year per site. If it was $300 for 10 sites it would be far more reasonable.

    To sum it up succintly:

SBI is good for the right people.

Newbs, those who don't wanna take care of anything to do with web development. Those who are just looking for an all in one solution teaching you how to build content, links, and monetize. BUT, even then tons of them choose the wrong niche.

SBI is NOT good for everyone

Despite its apparent success, loads of people fail with their SBI sites. I don't care what others say in response to this, there are plenty who fail.

A few successful website owners who started in 2002-2005 does not represent everyone. Yes a few of them make decent money of course, that is true, but loads don't.

SBI are great at talking up successes and you can understand why. But there is no talk of all those who drop their sites after a year or two.

SBI tells you to take it slow. "Way of the tortoise". I don't want slow, I don't want $2k per month after 2 years of work. I want it after 2 or 3 months of work. Sorry but unless way of the tortoise sounds great to you, it's not for you.

Despite all the info in the action guide, it's still not enough to stop many people simply choosing completely the wrong niche. I think their advice on niche choosing is not good enough.

I've seen some guy on the forums there with a soccer event website, admitting that after 3 years, hundreds of pages of content and tons of backlinks he still doesn't break $50 per month. Sound good? Sounds more like he chose the wrong niche where no money is to be made. And this poor guy was still saying that way of the tortoise was the best way so still keeping at it.

For some people it does work, for others no. And there is a kind of bizarre way that every single forum thread on the web about SBI gets taken over with comments saying how great it is. That is a bit scarey and weird.

    • While I don't have an SBI website, I have built about a dozen for other people. I think your assessment of the niche problem is exactly right. All too often people ignore the advice to choose a niche about which they are familiar, and instead go for a niche that they think will make them money.

The sites that succeed are those about which the owner is passionate and knowledgeable.

Personally, I will probably eventually buy and create one SBI site just so I can have access to the BrainstormIt tool. I haven't found anything online that is as valuable as that feature alone. But I'll keep my other sites with Yola, which give 25 websites for a yearly fee of about $89 (not including the domain name fee for each of those 25 websites).

I think they're mostly people who are just used to it, and don't want to have to learn anything new. I do have some sympathy with them, in principle, though I wouldn't use it, myself.

If there's also an affiliate program(?), it may be partly because people promote it, too, of course.

That can be one aspect of success, certainly. Promoting/supplying something with a large existing market is also pretty important.

I use SBI myself although I am also using wordpress on the side for smaller sites, but nothing has come close to how SBI performs as far as generating it's own organic traffic which is why I still have my sites. I think it is the perfect tool for any beginner to learn all about SEO while building a profitable site and then they can go build anything they want after that. To be able to make a decent adsense check without ever paying a dime for ppc is awesome to me.

SBI seems very outdated and trapped in the year 2001. All of the sites have a similar look.

SBI sites look like complete garbage. Why fork over $300 a year for that when you can spend the same amount of money once and get a hot looking customized wordpress site?
