How do I research the market?

Hello I am taking some lessons from this internet marketing teacher, and man it's really good.

I am learning a lot! So here's my question,

He suggest that, before I go launch into making products and picking a niche to go into, that to find out and do research about what problems the niche has and what people what to learn most. He also suggest that I do a survey.

So here's my question,

What niche does the topic "How to write an eBook and sell it" fall into?

Because I am guessing that it can apply to any niche because anyone who has a passion or hobbie can write an eBook about it and be able to sell it.

Thanks,
Joe

This is definately the internet marketing niche. No matter what niche the person is writing about, the aim is to write, market and sell the book.

If you wanted to write and sell a book about dog training would you go to the dog training section of library to learn how to market and sell it? No. You'd go to the marketing, and book writing section.

Darren is spot on here. That kind of book is teaching people how to sell a book online, regardless of what the content/topic is.

Just curious, but are you thinking of jumping into this niche for your first eBook project?

I really like this niche, I plan on making products for multiple niches though.

This is true but can be a wrong approach. Trying to target everyone usually ens up targeting nobody.

My suggestion is to go for a "subniche" first. It can be for example people having a blog and wanting to monetize it.

The problem of that niche: they want to make money with their blog.
The solution: write a book related to the topic of the blog and sell it to your subscribers (and other people interested in the topic that potentially can end up being your followers).

This is just an example of how to, in my opinion, find a target market.
