I haven't used them, but some people swear by Zazzle.com for custom printing t-shirts and mugs. I think some other warriors use them.

You'll make a LOT more money if you order a small quantity and ship them yourself.

I know a lot of people that have left CafePress.com and ordered shirts from me to sell themselves. The last time I looked CP charges a base price of $15 for a plain white shirt. So if you sell a shirt for $19 you get $4. Things might have changed since I looked last, you should check for yourself. If you would have bought the shirt for $6 (my price each for 12) you would make $13 per shirt, more than tripling your profit.

CafePress and Zazzle are good if you want to put dozens or hundreds of designs and can't invest in that much inventory to start out.

If you only have a couple of designs you might be better buying the shirts yourself and selling them directly off of your website. You can link to your CP store if you think people will also want your design on mugs, clocks, mousepads and the other items you offer.

You need to take a look at both sides and see what works best for you. Try to find some people with CP or Zazzle stores and see what they think.

Here, let me shed some more light on it. You can buy blank t-shirts for a couple of bucks on the open market. Screen print them or use press technology and sell for $19.00. Profit is $17.00.

Or... you can buy them from a screen-printer for $5.00 (shop for best minimums price) and sell for $19.00. Profit is $14.00 each and they do most of the work.

Now the downside: Since the onset of CP and Zazz, the market is flooded.

Start with someone like CafePress or Zazzle.

Take the designs that sell well and buy them in bulk from a t-shirt printer and sell them directly off your website.

If you get lots of designs selling well, invest in your own equipment and do the entire process in-house.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.
