Kill the competition via article marketing?

Dear all,

Before I begin, a Merry Christmas and best wishes to you and your loved ones.

I have been doing marketing for the past 2 weeks, and as I'm only promoting 1 product in a niche I'm very familiar with, I'm churning out articles at a pretty healthy rate (8-10/day in non-competitive keywords that are below 8000 search results on Google).

However, the product has been around for awhile and has consistently sit at the top of the Clickbank chart for popularity in that niche. There are Youtube videos, product reviews on ezinearticle and even blogs being set up just to promote this product exclusively, a search of the product name on Google returned about 47,000 search results.

I know I'm going to face some serious competition before choosing this niche, but I decided to have a go because:

1) I believe I can provide better content than most of the other affiliates because I know the niche very very well
2) I believe I can produce quality articles fast

I really hope to seek the advice of the experienced marketers here, whether it's possible for me to wipe out the competition just by producing 8 quality articles a day and post them furiously onto article directory? If not, how can I refine my marketing strategy to get more people to buy the product through me?

The product pays out $90 per sale, and I set out to hit $3,000 a month with it, is the goal unrealistic given the competition?

I'm on of the few here....and I'm sure Mr. Steve will chime in here...I swear the guy never leaves the computer and scouts for anything with the word "article" in it.... hehe

    Anyway...

I love article marketing most of the time. I've perfected (in my way), and a lot of my traffic comes from it. Article marketing can be a fantastic way to get recurring traffic for writing just one time.

    BUT...

Word of caution. It's not as simple as just writing a better article. The search engines don't care about that really. Learn to write great content and SEO wrap it just right too. It's more about choosing the right keywords, the right markets and then writing it with content value and seo in mind.

Also, most people always forget...the page your article is located on is still a web page. Send back links to it! Just like any other page, the more one way back links (the right kind of back links) you have going towards it the better. You can push other articles out of the way in the serps by doing this.

Best of luck to you! And get to writing!

Did you have to drag me into this?

      Okay, all kidding aside.

Article marketing has more pitfalls in it than the game. (Anybody remember
      that Activision classic?)

Take a look at all the variables to article marketing.

      1. The quality of the article

      2. The title (to get people to even read it)

      3. The resource box (a strong enough call to action to get them to the site)

      4. The quality of the landing page. Is it a review page? How good is the
review? Is it another article? How good is that article? Is it a squeeze page
to get opt ins? If so, how good is that and how good is your followup AR
      series?

      5. The competition. How much? How good?

      6. The keywords you're targeting.

      7. The reputation of the product. How many bad reviews are floating
      around?

      8. The number of articles you write.

Any one of these can torpedo your campaign and I've only scratched the
      surface.

I promote a ton of non IM products through various pen names around
the Internet. I'm successful because I make sure that each of these
      things is in my favor.

I use to promote MOMU when it wasn't so hot in the marketplace. I have
since stopped because there is just way too much competition. I replaced
it with a product that gets me 20 to 30 sales a month.

The strategic part of article marketing is like fighting a war, and it's not
      an easy one to fight.

If you're thinking of promoting a high gravity, top product at Clickbank,
      good luck.

      You're going to need it.

        Hi Steve,

Thanks for responding to this thread, I've learnt so much from some of the information you shared in this forum.

I understand article marketing, while simple on the surface, can actually involve a lot of fine tuning. In my opinion the best approach to be good at this fast is to keep writing and posting, and use the results to split test.

I don't know if you agree that there's an element of luck involved (I've seen many claims on $3000 income from article marketing in the first month and I've also seen a lot of people questioning the effectiveness), but with the checklist you've just kindly provided I'm sure I can take my campaign a level higher.

        Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for sharing! I'm constantly learning about SEO and reading up on how to get important links to my page. So far I'm only using social bookmarking, but the effects aren't as good as I initially predicted.

Thanks Steven as usual on your great advice...

I love your article marketing variables. I guess I also have to keep in mind those variables...

pioneertw, If you have a good knowledge of the niche and you have got a great list of niche keywords then you are good to go...

Just remember to create more backlinks to every approved ezine articles immediately as they get published. This will give your article an extra age over your competition. I have done the same with my articles and currently many of them are in Top 3 positions.

You can do the following things for creating quick backlinks to your articles:

    1) Socialmarker.com or onlywire.com for quick bookmarking,

    2) Post articles links on your other web 2.0 properties (Squidoo, hubpages,Tumblr, etc.)

    3) Ping all your articles and web 2.0 sites with pingomatic

    4) Submit all RSS feeds of your own site, blogs and web 2.0 sites to RSS aggregators websites.

And you will have a quickly ranking article in the Google in 1 day...

yep, i just started article marketing as well in some highly saturated niches, and it was a little frusturating at first because my high-quality articles were pretty much nowhere to be seen in google at first because of all the competition.

but as you build links to them, they will show. maybe not all of them though, i still have a few really good articles out there that ive built links to that are just lost in google with hardly any views. it happens.

ill also add that my experience so far has been that building anticipation in your prospect is WAY more valuable to you as a marketer than the actual quality of the content in your article.

We want everything in this world to be just and fair and be rewarded for our hardest work, but my experience has been that some of my articles I was most proud of that were very content heavy were the ones with the least clicks... while other articles that were thin on quality but just did the bare minimum and 'got the job done' ended up being my star performers.

    good luck
