Teenager looking for a summer job

I was just asked if I could help find a job for a teenager.

I figured I'd ask you guys, when it comes to making some money online right away with no particular online skills other than typing, what would you recommend to someone like this?

I was thinking fiverr gigs.

Perhaps some tedious linkbuilding? But that might require some training though.

Suggestions?

Textbroker & Microworker are good options for hard cash with no skills necessary really

A job in the physical realm.

Hosting at a restaurant, bagging groceries, mowing lawns, etc.

You got the point, that's easy task to do for summer jobs though tiring if they do a lot of work.

The requirements to earn online don't change because you are a teen or only need a summer job. They don't change because you "need" money or because your circumstances have changed.

I think a physical job (if one can be found these days) is much better training for the teen. Yes, it's tiring - work is supposed to be tiring.

Only someone looking for cheap options would hire an inexperienced teen to write content for them. Kid would make more money at MickeyD's for less work.

I see young marketers who are failing not because they can't work online - but because they've never worked a "real" job and haven't developed the self discipline, the organization or the persistence a job can teach you.

Well I was watching an episode of Two and a Half Men a few weeks ago and Charlie said all you need is a webcam and a Paypal account...

Seriously though, if it's a teenager then I wouldn't stick them inside on the Internet. Get them outdoors doing some sort of labor. Show them how a REAL income is made. There's always plenty of Car Wash cafes looking for people. Sun, socializing, cash in hand... what more does a teenager want... and if you play your cards right, YOU get a free car wash out of it.

      Absolutely brilliant Will.

We also have no car wash "cafes" over here, you just have to stand there or find a pub nearby (not too bad really). What a great idea though and opportunity, I might add. Got me thinking anyway.

I think a drive through car wash pub may be against the health and safety mafias rules.

If I was a teenager again, I'd rather be outside all summer long. In fact that's what I intend doing this summer myself.

That would be all kinds of awesome. Although it might get a little rowdy. Mmmmm, Abbott Ale and soap suds. What a combination!

...Actually my biggest problem would be just staying for the one

Besides, half the men in England would be telling there wives "Just off to get the car washed dear"

"Again dear? You only came back an hour ago"

I fear it would create social unrest!

          Yeah but the rains dirty.

Social unrest in an English pub? Never! lolhahalol

It would certainly be more interesting than your average pub quiz night :p

I don't think they would mind. I think the ladies would be off to take the laundry to the "Suds and Suds" - have your laundry done while you have a beer.

Two marvellous business opportunities and a chance to quell social unrest all in one thread.

I can see it now - "Lager with your laundry"

              Genius.

I agree that you should get a physical job. Lifeguarding, wait tables, landscaping, scooping ice cream etc are all excellent jobs for teens. If you really want to make money online then I suggest taking the summer to learn the how-to's of IM before you make the leap into the proverbial deep end. You'll still have a paycheck from your physical job and the knowledge to succeed after your summer job has finished.

Have you considered just getting a job at a local fast food place, or a store, or maybe a summer job at an amusement park, or zoo? There's so much to do in most towns I would think that would be more fun and make you more money - immediately.

This is so true, if you never had an experience working in a company with some hierarchy you will probably have missed a step. I think is part of nurturing your kid (I will surely encourage my kid to do some "real" work later on), young people learn how to overcome problems faster when they have had this experience first. It really adds to the capability of the person in my opinion

my son asked me the same question. I set the website in my footer up for him and taught him how to place ads on craigslist and other classifieds.
Now he gets the best of both worlds and makes a few bucks

Fiverr gigs would be a great place to start. You could also start a Warriors for Hire thread here offering content creation, given that you can create quality content.

You could buy a curb address stencils and some paint and teach her how to paint addresses for homeowners. (This usually brings about $10 per address). Google it, there's a lot of info on it, and you don't have to buy some hyped up ebook to figure it all out!
