The Good Feeling of Catching an 'Instant Refunder' Before They Download :)

It was just lucky that I caught this guy as I just logged into my account and noticed a couple of sales. When I clicked on one of them I saw that he had requested and received a refund for the items (I think 2co must automatically refund if requested).

So I went into my DLGuard dashboard and put a ban on the email address of this customer. I assumed he had probably already downloaded the items but I put a ban on him anyway.

This morning I checked my emails and I have an email from the customer saying that he purchased my products but can't download them because it says his download is blocked

That is a nice feeling to know that I did the ban before he got around to downloading the product he bought and instantly refunded!

Ha, ha! Good on you, Sheryl. I can't believe someone would have the nerve to even ask after refunding but they do all kinds of stupid things. Some people's kids, right?

He refunded as soon as he bought it - that is why I blocked his download, because he had already refunded.

Good for you. Email him back and explain how there are no free lunches on your site.

Nothing to stop him from using another email and trying that again though

The thing is, the Joke is on the serial refunders

They are basically telling themselves that they can't afford x amt of dollars(usually $7-$17) with WSO's...and there is no way they are going to become wealthy with that mindset of lack

I had a guy who wanted 2 of my products for $9...and he pm'd me 6 times during my launch...then I finally told him no

Then he tried contacting people in my threads wanting my product for free

THEN, he somehow got a link to my cross sell, purchased it for $7...then had the nerve to turn around and ask for a refund!

I basically told him to scram

Like I said, joke is on them

People like this don't make it in IM

Nice catch. It's sad that people do that without even taking a look at the product and deciding if it actually warrants a refund. Did you respond to his email?

        I recently heard this story:

Customer buys, then refunds, then tries to download but can't - thanks to savvy PayPal IPN handling.

Customer buys again, downloads, then refunds again.

Vendor sends documentation of events to PayPal and has both refunds reversed within 24 hours, thus getting paid twice for the product.

I have no idea whether this story is true, and the lack of names makes it suspect. But wouldn't it be awesome if it was?

I really hope this is a true story. It has a wonderful sense of justice overcoming injustice.

ONE of them? What about the OTHER? You know, not ALL refunders are THEIVES!

HECK, I went into a restaurant, and mentioned to a coworker that my desert was not as nice as it usually is. He made a fuss about the product I ate, and I paid for. The server told the manager, and he INSISTED that the price be taken off the bill. What could I do?

Well, later, I failed to complete a meal because of the actions of this guy. It is just how I am. That guy, the one that caused me to go hungry, made a stink. I INSISTED on paying. I wanted to get out of there. Want to hear the ultimate of ironies? That jerk got a free piece of pie, and we sat there while he ate it. All COURTESEY of the management. I am STILL wondering how a piece of pie for HIM should make ME feel better!

I guess I would get blamed for that! I was not even the one that complained. In both cases, I wanted to pay.

Anyway, maybe the guy slipped up, and refunded, and maybe even the OTHER order was paid for. Did you ever check?

Nobody said that, Steve. Just that this one was. You can tell, because he got his money back before downloading, then complained when he couldn't download.

And the other one was just a sale, not a refund, so it has nothing to do with the story and isn't even remotely of interest in this thread.

Yes I clicked on the other order that had just come in and it was from a different customer, for a different product and it wasn't refunded.

The fact that this guy got a refund and THEN tried to download the product allows me to think that he IS dishonest. Surely you wouldn't pay, ask for a refund, and then download the product. I wouldn't have a problem if he had downloaded the product and decided it wasn't good enough and asked for a refund, but to request a refund before even downloading it and then trying to download it - that's just dishonest - that is a THIEF!

      Steve,

Valid point. Legitimate refund requests should be honored and all reputable business people will certainly honor them.

However, anyone familiar with DL Guard and the PayPal refund process knows that the refund request does not come immediately after purchase and before the purchaser has even had the chance to download the product,

AFTER ..... having gone thru the PayPal purchasing process. Not to mention the purchaser has not responded.

Based on the info provided.... Busted!

I hate asking for refunds but I will and I do if I really feel the product isn't working out for me. More often than not, it just sits on my hard drive taking up space collecting mold.

What really surprises me though is how stupid is someone who "may" be a serial refunder that doesn't at least download first and then ask for the refund. Talk about stupid!!

I am not saying it's right but really the guy must be an idiot and I am really happy for you that you caught it first. It's bs if someone pays and never even looks before refunding.

Helps explain why some people just can't make any of these products work for them though.....they're just too freakin' stupid, which I suspect is the case at least half the time. Heck, the OP posted the issue clearly, yet there was still someone in this thread who got it completely bass ackwards.

      Great catch!

There is a mini industry with the Fiverr type sites now. Some claim to get any WSO for $5.00.. I counted three of those today. I wouldn't doubt that some of them buy then refund to fill their orders.

As with all problems if it gets large enough a solution (weapon) will appear. They they will figure out a way around that and around we go again.

    if i get a serial refunder which i haven't.

      Hi Sheryl,

It's an aptly chosen solution you made.

That guy was totally dishonest and deserved your move. I know, to catsh this kind of 'customers' is a continuos assignment for us. The problem, is that this cannot be filtered out in advance.

The opportunity exists that he will go back to you with another data and IP. So you need to be in readyness. I wish I am wrong.

      Take care,

This is the way consumers work now. I sold some stuff on eBay. They got the product and then asked for a refund through paypal. Of course they approved it. So I got negative feedback plus a refund and the customer got to keep a perfectly brand new functioning product. The average consumer is fine but there are bad apples now adays getting free product.
