Amazing what a change of colour can do

Hi guys, I posted up a site of mine a while back.

Next Random Cam

The site was white, I was going for a clean, minimal look.

Anyway, decided to change the site to a dark gray, and my adsense conversions shot up! They were a measly 0.3 - 0.5% and are now around 1.5 - 3%

I've often heard about testing, I guess I'm going to take it a bit more seriously from now on.

Can this really apply to everything?

I mean, if I have a button that's gray, and change it to red or orange, can this really have that much of an impact?

Yes, hell yes. You can literally double the profit of a website just by changing one little thing. While everyone else is out there trying to double the amount of products they sell or double the amount of visitors they get, you can achieve the same thing by continually split testing your website and improving conversions.

If your website is converting at 1% and you make a slight change which then jumps your conversions up to 2%, yes, you have only increased your conversions by 1%. Not a big deal right? Wrong. What you have actually done is just doubled your sales.

Now you know why the elite Internet Marketers love split testing so much. Small changes can have HUGE results.

I know virtually nothing about split testing, can you tell me a little more about this?

I read a post a while back, is there some google app that you can use?

The Google app you are referring to Google WebsiteOptimizer.

You learn so much from Split testing -there is a reason why the top internet marketers recommend it

Testing and tracking is so important. It is the only way that you can maximize profits. You don't know what works best for you if you don't test different options and track the results.

Haha yea split testing is a funny thing, very important though. Its amazing how the little changes in color or how a certain phase can really affect the websites conversion rate glad to see you see the importance of it now.

Testing, tracking and eventually tweaking are the skills that separate top marketers from the rest.

And yes, they provide great results in all stages of marketing!

Not to mention that they create the ideal matrix for effortless, never- ending, killer product creation...

How long should a test last? One month? Two months? I got more than 10,000 impressions and only got less than 10 clicks per month.
And what's the theme you're using? Really nice for adsense...

Wow, that's very low... have a look on flippa for adsense sites that are popular, copy them.

If you're talking about my theme, I'm using the weaver theme... it's a take on the default twenty ten theme. It's nice and clean and easy to tinker with.

The number of visitors who go through your test is much more important than how long your test runs.

A test should last as long as it needs to to collect enough data to make an informed decision on the way forward.

You may find that even reverting changes from time to time can actually increase your traffic. Find different schemes and setups for your site. Monitor your traffic and keep backups of other like schemes that work.

Colors have a great effect on people. There are many studies our there about this. 'Red' in restaurants increase appetite, carpet colors in Vegas Casino's are designed so you don't look down, do the homework. Good luck.

That's great! Encourages me to go tweak a few things on my own and see what happens.

On a side note - none of the cams are loading for me. I get an error message each time I try to load a new one. Using IE 8 - just FYI.

Ok, this is bizzare, today I had a 43.75% CTR!

Traffic is still pretty low, so didn't earn a fortune... but, I can't really understand this?

Also, I'm sort of accidently ranking on google... never really set out to seo it for search engines, as there's no content... I guess I need to rethink this.. always learning.

Lots of things can get changed and result in conversion increasing (or decreasing) I have a lead gen site where I changed around the info collection form. I was only asking one piece of information, but I changed what I was asking for and my conversions went way up.

That is very cool that you changed something so simple and got such a great result. Congratulations.
