Merry Christmas to All - MY Anniversary Post, Please Read
Just like Jeremy, I joined the WF last Christmas, midnight on the 26th. I only have a quarter of his posts so I don't feel like I've accomplished as much in a way, but I usually only post when I have a question I can't resolve through the search or can't find in google.
I should have posted a few more times, especialy when I knew the answer to a question that someone new asked, but there were SO MANY other warriors freely offering their opinions and arguments that I often felt my meager contribution would be unneeded or unappreciated.
You see, in the REAL world, I ran a business that was positioned so that it was the only good place to stop and turn around in a busy area. I had a lot of TRAFFIC stopping by, if only to ask directions. So quite often, I saw my customers and employees all offering to give directions at the same time and thinking to myself..."They're more confused now than they were when they first stopped in, no need for me to contribute to that." If only I could hand them a printout from a gps that said turn left here and go two blocks and then turn right...
That's often how it works in life, you ask for directions and you get so many people willing to give them that you find yourself more dismayed and confused than before you asked the question. And so it has been with all of us that are new.
During my year in the forum, I've been unemployed and obliged to serve as the primary care-giver for my elderly mother. She's 86 with a degenerative back problem that would require numerous surgeries to repair and she's just not up to it. So I get days that I can spend digging into the bowels of google to discover ways to do things that I couldn't do before, and then there are days on end that I can do very little except look after her needs and wish I had the money to make things better for both her and myself.
Not being able to pay for much of anything except my daily needs, I've learned all about cPanel, Wordpress, article writing, bookmarking, FTP...you name it. Needless to say, I must do everything myself or else it doesn't get done. Also, I have had very little money to buy every guru's latest greatest "Dominate the __________" strategy.
As usual, I am way too wordy with my post, but my point is this. There are secrets to be learned from the Warrior Forum that are not available in any book at any price and can be had simply for the asking. You can get free WSO's that reveal a lot that you would otherwise pay hundreds of dollars for. If you take the plunge and join the War Room, there are things given in there that you couldn't buy for tens of times the cost.
I don't like to point out any individuals because the effort of so many make this a place like no other, but just look at "the stupidly simple cash cow" thread, or Keith Kogaine's posts, Tim Dixon....those are just recently! I could go on, but the point is that I've learned enough to run a business by just reading and asking questions.
I could have been a lot more successful with what I've learned except for two things. One that we all experience and another peculiar to my circumstances.
The one, INDECISION and a lack of willingness to try something even if I'm wrong I have long since overcome. I've established a series of blog/sites to see what works and if one fails I have several more to fall back on, and even more ideas to try after that! If I fail at one I will analyze why it didn't work (notice I didn't say what I did wrong) and apply the lessons to my next effort. Anyone of you can do this!
The other, a problem unique to me, means I may be offline and unable to do what I have learned to do for a period of time, maybe 6-8 months. A problem I have no control over. I could have let this discourage me and spent useless hours worrying about my plight in life and the cards I have been dealt, but instead I have spent the time honing my skills, knowing that if I'm forced to spend this time offline, I will accept the the cards I have been dealt and consolidate my skills and come back stronger and better when opportunities once again present themselves.
Don't get discouraged, Internet Marketing is only a type of business, a way of marketing and delivering a product to the customer. It is not a business in itself, just a method of marketing and product delivery. If you stop thinking of it as a "get rich quick" scheme and understand that there is WORK and Determination involved, you will see success. Unless you win the damn lottery, nothing is easy.
Find something that you care enough about, something you are willing to spend the kind of hours that others would pay you for. If you have to start with seven different directions and then decide which one suits you, then so be it. But find the one or two that suit you and concentrate on them.
Personally, my interests are so diverse and 'off the wall' that I'll have to find something that others are as passionate about as I. That's not a good way to start, that's just the way I am. It's taken me a few months, but I have a PR1 blog with a small devoted list that I'm very proud of. I don't make much money from them yet, but when I do try to sell them something, I have their trust. (Something I learned from my mother and Steven W.

I've learned so much in the past year that I could easily write a book on my successes and make a quick dollar. But if I included the failures I might lose the attention of those that want a quick fix. There are so many opportunities available in this strange and wondrous thing we call the internet that it is sometimes overwhelming and we feel lost at where to start. The secret I think is to just START! Do something, even if it's wrong.
It doesn't take money, you'd be hard pressed to spend more than a hundred dollars to test your idea unless you press ahead into PPC and unless you know how to write short, effective classified ads you would be a fool to start that way.
Merry Christmas to each and everyone of you...take advantage of this time at the end of the year to evaluate your strengths, overcome your weaknesses, and be thankful for your friends and family.
If I am so fortunate as to still be here at the beginning of the new year, I resolve to help more of those that know less than me, take advice from those that know more, and use the skills that I have learned to make life better for my mother, myself, and those customers that trust that what I sell them is truly a value for their dollar spent.
