How to use Social Media for Marketing rather than for SEO?

Hi Warriors,

I have a question. I am working on a project where we have a product/service, which we want to promote purely/primarily through social media.

What would you suggest be the best way to do this? Here are some of the ideas that we have come up with, most, if not all are fairly run of the mill.

Set up Facebook fan pages
You Tube videos
Twitter
Google News?
Social Bookmarking sites?
An app
Mobile marketing - although I know very little about this an how it works?

Is there anything more innovative that anyone can suggest? Anything that I have missed?

Any ideas would be seriously appreciated.

    Create one fan page in facebook. Then share it with all your friends. I think create 3 to4 different profile in face book and get lots of friends.

    Facebook fan page is more effective than twitter and other, because facebook has recently became a place for business in addition to entertainment, you can find all types of interests on facebook.

    Youtube is good but not all niches will succeed with it, as its traffic is only looking for entertainment.

      What we are doing is primarily entertainment, so should be effective on YouTube. We have already started with a few videos. Where do you go with Youtube Marketing though, once a video is live? I guess tweeting and posting on your blog and Facebook page.

      We really need some innovative ideas. I feel like I am missing something?

    try to produce daily new and fresh content..related to your niche..... and start blogging...this will really boost your social media campaigns....i use the same way.....

    I don't mean to be a buzz-kill, but is there a market for this? Social media is cool, but it is just another channel and unless there's (a) a market and (b) the market is accessible through that channel then it's pointless.

    Having said that, I strongly suggest you do your keyword research to discover the phrases to use within the social media content. Remember, it may be social but it's still "word" based and people will discover you if the words are right.

    PS. You'll also need to kick-start the process using other traditional media too. Like some paid advertising, PR and media releases as well as other grass roots activities. You can dial these back once things are rolling.

    I would suggest you to first start with Facebook and twitter marketing. These are the best of social networking websites and they will give maximum exposure to your website. You can easily tap into the perfect audience for your product/service. You can create writeups/blogs/articles containing the complete information of the products/services you are offering and the relevant hyperlink can be added. This is the best way to get started with the social media websites.

    Even with a FaceBook fan page you still need a lot of exposure which cannot be generated solely from social media. You still need all other SEO strategies to let your site rank well
