Do You Have the Right Mindset to Be a Successful Affiliate?

There are many threads posted here bemoaning the idea that this or that affiliate program doesn't work. Clickbank doesn't work, CPA doesn't work, Commission Junction doesn't work, Amazon doesn't work, etc.

I understand this kind of frustration, because just about everyone who comes online looking for ways to make money will run into a tough learning curve. You'll try this and that, yet come away with empty pockets and crushed hopes.

In fact, I bet there isn't a person who has gone the affiliate marketing route that hasn't had failures. One thing you need to understand is that EVERYBODY goes through this at one point or another.

Being an affiliate marketer takes guts, determination, curiosity, persistence and a dash of free spirited abandon. There's a reason why lots of people prefer working a regular job over doing this stuff.

It Takes a Certain Mindset to Be an Affiliate Marketer

You've gotta be in this for the long haul, kiddos.

There's lots of techniques that DO work for online affiliates, but discovering how exactly you should go about using them and tweaking them to create your own success is a journey of discovery.

If you quit before you uncover that one thing that really works for you...well, you'll never know what could of been.

"...just about everyone looking for ways to make
money will run into a tough learning curve."

"...there isn't a person who hasn't had failures"

    It's *inevitable*.

To ESCAPE the learning curve, is to escape your
    own success.

Unfortunately, this fear of the learning curve is a
    LEARNED trait.

How many of us gave up after falling off our bikes
more than 50x before getting it right?

How many of us gave up learning how to tie our
shoe for the 80th time before it *clicked*?

"...Being an affiliate marketer takes guts. There's a
reason why lots of people prefer working a regular
    job over doing this stuff."

It took guts to quit college 3 years early...

it took guts to look people in the eye and honestly
    say I don't HAVE a job -- that I'm a business man.

It took GUTS to face the social consequences of
being the *odd ball* in the group because few ppl
want to feel *alone* on this journey...

yet it is this journey we call FINANCIAL FREEDOM
where we are most often alone.

So yes, the middle road is easier to take...

    it's a *straight shot*.

    The entrepreneur paves his/her own road...and it's
NEVER without a few potholes and speed bumps on
    the way to financial freedom.

"...If you quit before uncovering what works for you
...well, you'll never know what could of been."

*sigh*...and isn't that the worst feeling in the world?

    Regret.

...knowing on SOME level it would have worked had
    you tried?

    Great thread.

I affiliated with commission junction before. It worked well for me. Made a couple of dollars then started to pursue other opportunities.

Failing is one of the best ways to learn. People don't realize this. They fail and give up as opposed to fail and adapt. It's a shame.

Because the barrier to entry for affiliate marketing is low, to succeed you need to be better than most people who are just putting up sites and doing the bare minimum. You need to add value in your articles, to your list. As someone pointed out, give. Focus on helping, not just getting. Remember that people like to buy, but no one likes to be sold to.

I don't like affiliate marketing. I much prefer to sell my own products. It's easier to me to market stuff I really like and believe in.

Yeah, it's all about strategy. The dividing line between success and failure can be wafer thin. But you only need one project to roll over to the right side of the line for huge success to come your way.

People who believe those who tell them Clickbank doesn't work, CJ doesn't work, etc, are the kind who don't have any success in the industry.

I couldn't agree with you more.

IM reminds me of the quotation "when the going gets tough, the tough get going."
We make mistakes, we fail, we lose, we stumble, we get ripped-off, we find something that looks like a winner but it turns out to be a loser. This is the life an an internet marketer.

However, it's the drive and motivation that keeps us going.
We know that there's "gold in them thar' hills", and we're going to find it no matter what.

We find a system that works and we focus and work hard to see it through, and we get rewarded for our effort in the long run. Of course, there are those that make it quickly and easily, but they are few and far between. Most of us have had to work hard and put in the hours and the ups and downs, but if we persist, we find it pays off.

It's all about positivity. If you think something is going to fail, or if someone tells you it's going to fail and you believe it, chances are it will fail for you since you've already developed the mindset for it to fail.

However, if we strive for the good and positive attitudes, then the response from that mindset bounces back.

It's all about the belief factor.

Any successful business owner knows that success begins in your mind.

If you don't have the right mindset then, you'll fail regardless of whether you're an affiliate marketer, double glazing salesperson, new business owner......... The rules pretty much remain the same know matter what you're doing.

Time and learning are key requirements and if you can find a formula to make money then, just repeat the process over and over again. If you look at all of the top businesses and what they do, they find a recipe that works and returns a healthy profit and just follow the same map for all of their companies regardless of what city/country is situated in.

IM is like a game of chess and the longer you play it the better you get, it's just a question of whether you stay in the game long enough!

Great words of wisdom there I cannot agree more. It all starts with a positive mind. Having the right mindset is definitely crucial in succeeding in IM.

And everyday I wake up more than happy to hop on my computer, and very excited to put some work hours into my online business. Even though I have only started up and haven't made a dollar, I feel that I've already achieved success because in my mind I HAVE NO DOUBT that success is within my reach and I'm inching closer every day.. as long as I am taking action everyday I believe that its not far away!
