Have you ever paid for a custom site design or WordPress theme? How much did it cost you?

My very first blog has been taking off recently (not the two in my sig, those are brand new and need some design love haha!) and I'd like to hook it up with a custom design.

So far I've been running a Thesis skin that I customized myself, but I want to step it up a notch, and since it's been pulling in great traffic and conversions as of late, I feel like the effort would be a worthwhile investment in the long run.

So, people who have gotten custom site/WordPress design done, what was your cost, how'd you find your designer, and any other advice you'd like to give?

    My initial reaction is
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I would really hesitate to redesign a site that is pulling in great traffic and conversions.

True, but I plan to keep the "layout" the same, if you know what I mean, the important stuff won't move (such as email sign up, where posts are located, etc.) everything is just going to get a shiny new coat. I feel like having a memorable look will help with branding if the site should become even more popular (which is the goal obviously).

This sounds really low, I was thinking it'd have to be at least $1000, would you mind linking to this site so I could see how it looks?

Just to revamp a Wordpress theme? Nah.

A budget of about $200 should get the job done no problem if you are looking mainly at cosmetic stuff

You can find great designers all over the place. Just check their portfolio and see if you like their work. You should be able to get a basic custom theme for under $200.

If you want something more advanced, it could easily be in the thousands.

If your site is a success and your current design is restricting you or if you look into building a brand then I think it is worth getting a custom design done. I'm a developer myself and most of my clients are people who either want to start blogs or are large scale companies. I barely get internet marketers to build websites for.
