OK I bought your WSOs, but don't email me 120 emails!

This has been discussed here before but this has made me bring it up again.

I've been around marketing a long time, and I know the idea of getting someone on your list then offering them more of your own products and other peoples products. Of course this works.

But if you don't do this wisely, you are hurting yourself. If I buy your WSO I may like it and want to get updates and rarely might look at other related offers but if you assume that because I buy something from you it means I want daily emails from you promoting other products you are wrong.

Recently I unsubscribed from someone who I've purchased 2-3 WSO's from but the amount of email from them was crazy. I looked and in a LITTLE over 2 MONTHS I've received over 120 emails from them. They are successful and so it must be working for them but it must also be costing them a lot of long term relationships. At least it cost mine.

Add the amount of email from this one person to the emails from other WSO creators who also think I want to know about their best buddy's new offers almost everyday and I'm grateful I set up a junk email account just to use for WSO pruchases.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of people who email you daily, or even those who email you every other day. Oh well... that is why the unsubscribe button was invented.

I agree It`s is really annoying when you are getting hundreds of such emails, so you have to send 2/3 of your daily mail to trash.

Ya, I have three different marketers that seem to be sending me information on other WSOs 2-3 times a day. Finally got tired of it and unsubscribed today. It won't be so bad if they emailed some content between, but all I ever see is advertising.

I completely agree with you. I buy WSO’s quite frequently. If I receive two or three mails from the same seller every single day and that too trying to push all the dirt & dust out there, I will unsubscribe immediately even if I risk missing some updates. It has happened to me more than once.

I find it most annoying when I buy software or a plugin and in order to get notified of updates, I have to stay subscribed to the e-mail list.

The smart thing to do (other than sending out fewer flippin' e-mails) would be to group the list so people can be removed from the "everything except update notifications" group.

I totally agree with txconx. How hard is it to send out a simple survey and ask the people if they just want just the update notifications or if they want to receive other offers as well and just segregate the lists. Hell they can even give them that option on the thank you/download page for that matter. It’s a great way to keep people happy and avoid having them unsubscribe from the list.

After all a happy customer is a loyal customer…

This actually makes so much sense that I'm thinking there must be marketers that have already gone this route. It is too bad (ridiculous really) to have to have to choose between missing updates on what you bought, and being inundated with several emails per day.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to use surveys, as Tim Castleman did a while back, to ask subscribers how often they'd like to hear from you. Maybe a cool software app would be something to integrate your autoresponder with a survey and a list segmentation tool, so that depending on their answers on the desired frequency of contact question, they get added to the autoresponder series that goes out as often as they said they want to hear from you.

Obviously, there will still be complainers who forgot who you are, but that should cut way back on it.

You don't want to have people on your list that really don't like your stuff, but they stay on to avoid missing updates. Much better to have one less subscriber, or a subscriber you only promote to once a month, and still likes you, than a pissed off one! Some wise marketers have pointed out that the IM axiom, "the money is in the list", should really be phrased, "the money is in the RELATIONSHIP with the list". It shouldn't be one where the members feel they need a relationship therapist to help them deal with anger issues.

To the marketer, it doesn't matter whether or not you like receiving that many emails - what matters is what number of messages/week results in the greatest number of sales. Sure, these sales might not be coming from you, but if the rest of his/her list responds well to that number of messages, that's what the marketer is going to do.

And that's why there's always an unsubscribe option

If the first email they send you is a pitch, with no content, hit that unsubscribe button.
If there is an option to tell them why, use that option to let them know.

If they are just pitching WSO's at you, it won't be any loss to you.

I agree with you. From marketing sense they must have to read out their customers psychology and I think in this regards they didn't show a great job by losing a regular customer like you. This is irritating indeed when you will get lots of emails in your most important email address.

I don't get worried when my list says I email them too much too often.

I get VERY worried when even a few say I email them junk!

The way I look at email frequency is this:

"If I'm handing out $10 bills to my subscribers, how often would
they want me to do it? Once a month? Once a week? Once a day?
    More often?"

    The answer is obvious.

The challenge is to make sure you really are delivering that $10
bill (or more) with every contact.

Master that and you won't let complaints about over-emailing
    bother you.

Come to think of it, you won't get too many of 'em anyways

    All success

A big thanks to everyone who has informed me there is an unsubscribe option.

      Wow I didn't know that!

sarcasm ending. I really did know that.

Yes the quality of your content is important, but sadly most people who send out the most emails usually contain constant barrage of affiliate offers. But even good content like water is good for you but you can even overdose on those :-)

All those from the school of it doesn't matter how many emails you send out as long as I'm making money. Great if that's working for you. If 1 email a day is good, why not test 10 per day or 100 per day? Who knows sending out a 100 emails per day to your list may drive away 95% of your list but if you are making more money then that's all that matters right?

There are lot's of ways to make money (and more money) but I guess we all need to decide how we will and how we won't do business.

I totally know how you feel, that's why instead of sending daily emails I usually have a 'latest news' window that loads up with any product/software app I sell. It's optional, and limits me to maybe one or two emails a month.

Why use a junk email address when you can simply unsubscribe?

I know the marketer you are referring too and he makes several hundred dollars a day using this technique...

You simply don't fit the audience the marketer chooses to market too... Just take advantage of the unsub link at the bottom...

Getting on WF and complaining about it won't make anyone stop doing what they are doing...

IF they are already mailing 2-3 times a day it is because it is working for them and they are very unlikely to change their business to to suit a handful of people...

While you may hate getting these emails, there are plenty of other people o that marketer's list who are waiting for those emails and more importantly they are waiting to buy...

So don't waste time worrying about it or complaining or just giving off a negative vibe. It won't help you in the long run (negativity never does) and it def won't make the marketer change...

So just unsub and everyone's happy

I'm fine with those who email me, but not to those who are sending SPAM like emails. That's why when I'm buying online goods, I'll try to give my other email address as much as possible instead of using my "personal" email.

And, I noticed that some "unsubscribe" link were really not unsubscribe, unless it's a well-known autoresponder.

Oops, it's not specifically for WSO...

Yes, but you have to consider the seller... You wouldn't want to work hard to create a product then not be able to capture that customer's email address? That's like throwing hundred dollar bills out the window...

Granted, there are others measures you can take, for example I use the integration between Imnica and WSO Pro to automatically add folks to my list when they purchase WSOs because I hate opting in after purchase too, but I know that I would be doing the same if I didn't have the integration options available...

Of course you can unsubscribe from lists but if you purchase a product and they promise updates you shouldn't need to read daily affiliate emails from them for a month waiting for the update.

For the record I build mailing lists, I've been full time online for over a decade. I choose not to treat my customers that way. But maybe you do.

That's what I'm trying to say... If you are a list builder you should understand...

That's the glory of having your OWN business, you get to run it how YOU want too...

It may not work for you, but I promise it's working for the marketer you are discussing...

Personally, I'm probably somewhere in between this marketer and yourself in terms of frequency...

It is spam if it is does not have good quality content. If you provide your list with emails that contains solid content then that is like giving them free e-books after e-books. Now giving free e-books is not spam isn't it. But if an email that only has 4 or 5 lines and they ask you to visit their affiliate links, then that person does not really bother about building a relationship with his customer. The list is for you to build genuine relationship with your customer by providing them with good proper information and content.

Twice a week would be a good number. If a big computer store sends you a SMS twice a week to let you know about the latest product or sale item, would you complain? I would not.
