INTERNET MARKETING

I've been looking around for a social network platform and
I found Ning to be a good one but is there others just as
good or better?.

I'm going to give ning a try.
The thing I like about it is that you are the network and have more control as compared to a network like facebook where facebook has all the control.

I use Ning as the platform for my private community for my Building an eBook Empire customers. I like it - they all get to make their own page, etc. I like it.

  Ning is a hosted service, you can't control all aspects...
  
  Just like comparing WordPress.com to WordPress.org, where you host the open source software on your own server and have full control.

  I use Ning, I have full control, ning offers multiple solutions, at their free level you have their ads, their logos, etc, using full premium services you can customize everything and anything, your own apps, widgets, etc
  
  My site: SiteRev5 is on NING, we are adding an entire Buy and Sell Section widget... we have the source code

  Yeah there are two options - free means they have more control over SOME aspects, but not all.
  
  Paid (I think like $20 a month?) means you can host it on your own server.

  I have not used Ning, but I've spent quite a bit of time rummaging around reading the documentation. From a software developer's perspective, I think it looks great. They allow you to download the platform software, in case you don't want it changing out from underneath you. They have database storage APIs and a lot of other good stuff.
  
  Ning is definitely at the top of my list, for when I get around to a project that requires what the platform offers.
