Are you kidding me? Make money taking surveys online?

So, remember 5 years ago when you'd always see those Google Ads about making $300/hr, etc. making money taking surveys by all those "big companies" that would pay you "big money" just for filling out a simple "5 minute survey" etc. etc. etc.?

Of course it looked like nonsense, but it got people! I admit, before I knew even anything about making money online I thought maybe it could actually work. I read countless sales letters at those sites, and in the end, I never pulled the trigger and bought as I thought, "This just can't be true."

Now, I don't know, maybe somewhere, someone made decent money taking surveys a few times and were paid their $150/hour to get lucky enough to be part of some "focus group", etc. Then they thought, "I'll make a clickbank product about how anybody can do this, even though they really can't, and I'll make a lot of money promoting it!" And then the copycats started and on and on and on...

But we all know this is not something pretty much anybody is doing to be able to do, right? I mean, just seems incredibly silly, right? You're not going to become some millionaire taking surveys, you're just not. I will note I researched back in the day as I was wondering if people can make money with surveys and there are places you can make money with surveys but from numerous reports on forums, etc. the best you are going to be able to do is about $2/hour or even less!

Why don't see the plethora of those survey offers around anymore? Why do you rarely if ever see them all over Google ads anymore? Because it's BS.

That's why I was shocked to see an IMer promote a make money taking surveys clickbank product to his list today! Ya, I'm on the list and have been for a couple of years. I never, ever, buy any of his stuff of any of the stuff he promotes, as it usually just doesn't look good to me (why do I stay on this list? To know what NOT to buy). Now, I know he makes bank with JVs and clickbank launches, etc. but c'mon, isn't there better stuff to promote these days as an affiliate to your huge list?!

I mean, we are talking about making money making surveys! Give me a break...

Just can't believe it...

I will continue to stay on this guy's list as frankly, it usually makes me laugh to see the stuff he promotes, and I like a good laugh now and then. If he responded to this thread he would probably talk about the huge amounts of money he makes (and I really think he does from some research I've done on him before) and the huge list he has, but c'mon, man, if you have such a huge list surely there's something that actually converts AND is not total BS...

    Actually, taking surveys was pretty well paid for a while. 50-60 bucks and hour not counting free software etc you recieved from different brands. It is still possible to make money from it allthough it is no way to make a living. If you want to pick up a few extra movie tickets each week on the other hand it is still good.

      I'm sceptical it was ever a good way to make money full-time, for the majority of people. Perhaps a few who got the hook ups? And did you ever make that money or no anyone personally who did? And when was that?

        Make a living? No. (but I think we all know that is quite absurd to begin with)

        Get cash? No.

        But getting something valuable? Yes. It has been a while though. Not me but someone I know very well. And he is not an MMO opportunity seeker or anything like that. I think he somehow bumped into that, took a survey and got some electronics that worth a bit of money back then (5/6 years back).

There's no magic formula or instant way to earn huge amounts of money. Even if there was, taking surveys would be probably on the loooong list of unsuccessful ways to do it.

    I haven't seen a survey promotion in a good long time, although I still see the original sites on clickbank. I did actually buy in once. It was a fiasco.

    It gave the names of companies that allegedly payed cash for surveys. I did the surveys and was offered prizes instead. Garbage prizes. I emailed the support of those companies and they asked me how I got their company names and who told me that I would get cash. The survey people didn't even really have permission to list them and promise cash payments. It's been a long time since then and a lot learned in the mean time.

      Ya one day I was really just about to buy for something like $34 and I just thought, this cannot be true or it's just too much money if this product is BS.

      Like I said, I suppose someone somewhere was able to make good money with surveys, once upon a time. But I'm sure most of those products are absolute BS.

      I was just shocked to see that in my inbox, today, and I actually signed up to this guy's list from here at WF maybe a year or more ago.

      Several years ago when I investigated this scam, I pretty much found the same thing: a total unmitigated scam perpetrated by denizens of the worst ilk.

    I bought into it, too. It was more for research purposes to see if anything substantial could be made... mostly because I wanted to market it from experience. Like Suzanne, I was mostly offered prizes and "points." Not to mention the fact that the surveys were LONG and BORING as hell.

    You do get "lucky" every once in a while and take a survey for a major university or something, and you end up getting a 10 dollar check in the mail about 3 months after taking the survey.

    Like you, I figured this "opportunity" had run its course. Somebody's feeling nostalgic, I guess.

      I tried one but did not succeed with it, the company eventually disappeared, not sure whether to call it scam or whether it was business gone bad.

      I think I tried a couple more but I just found the process long, not really worth my time, they seem to have a lot of gimmicks. I don't think I will bother with them again.

      The worst gimmick is when upon signing up they start introducing you to even more surveys, I mean c'mon there must be better things to do.

        It's almost impossible to earn a real living with surveys but I used to make a few hundred a month taking them in my spare time. Plus got tons of free products to test along the way.

        The higher paying surveys are never given to those just starting out with the company (something the products sold about surveys tend to leave out). Those come once you've built up credibility with the company.

        I've never earned $150 or $300 per hour, but had times where I did make $50 per hour doing it. Of course, that's only for two hours - you don't do that every hour.

            I found one company a few years ago that seemed legit, and offered cash payments. I took their surveys and actually made a little money (like $12.)

            But it took me around four hours of taking surveys to get that money, and I decided that writing articles (even for $5 each, which is what I was getting back then) was a much better use of my time.

            I've met a couple people who know the money they make isn't good on a "per-hour" basis, but they enjoy the surveys. So it is a nice method of bringing in a little (very little) money for them - I hated all the redundant questions. *lol*

              Looks like surveys are still around for some, eh? But yeah it's a low, low paying thing to do. I suppose you could do them as a hobby and get paid for a hobby...

              I just thought the days of people promoting clickbank products that promise good money for taking surveys were over. Perhaps things go in cycles...

      Interesting to see people who actually did make something with this, even if just a few hundred a month. Don't see that happening too much these days, I would say.

      Ya I can see the potential was there if you were a bit lucky and stuck with it for months and months or years to get higher paying gigs.

      One time, on Oprah I think it was, I saw a guy who made his living as a guinea pig, not taking surveys, but trying out and testing new products, drugs, condoms (really), etc. for big companies, and made something like $100K a year. So there is money to be made in product surveying and testing, probably, but extremely unlikely more than a few are going to make a full-time living at it.

    Yes, a few bucks can be made daily taking paid surveys but you can not make a living. Stay away clickbank affiliates who tell you get rich by taking surveys. But it is nice to earn a few extra dollars in your spare time.

      I have a work at home site so I looked into a number of get paid to read and survey sites for my readers. Of the fifty or so sites I looked into, I found one surf the net site and earn points for gift cards and prizes that was easy to do. But other than that the rest of the sites were time consuming with little reward. Very poor way to make money. I would not recommend it.

    Turn back the clock 5-8 years, and there was good money. There is still a bit of money to be made. But, ...unless you know exactly what you are doing and where to look--there is very little money to be made in online surveys. For those with flexible schedules who know where the very best bucks are $10/hour is achievable...but, that is an hour of surveys here and there...not consistent work time. Like William says, it can be a movie ticket, not much more.

    I agree that you couldn't make a full time living doing surveys, but I promote various Clickbank and CPA offers showing people how to do this.

    People spend sooo much time on Facebook / Pinterest / Procrastinating sites that if your ad says spend a bit of time filling in surveys as well as poking your friends then you can afford to treat yourself to that new dress (yes Women convert much better) then it's easy to sell to them.

    These offers are blowing up on mobile at the moment (get paid to surf the web on your phone) etc etc

    My first success online was promoting a survey website years ago. Back when adwords were cheap.

    It was just a members area with "how to pages" & links to survey sites that were known to pay... roboform etc. Buyers were mostly female & bought mostly in the afternoon before school let out or after 10/11pm. Eventually sold the site.

    Never got paid much from taking surveys myself. Mostly discount coupons or the occasional gift card

    Umm.. excuse me? You're making it appear really obvious to me right now that you've never completed a survey before. Your avg survey might pay a dollar, and take 5 minutes to complete, so you do the math. Now if you automate part of that process (your own personal information) you can make money that much faster.

    Because even when I was a newbie I was easily able to make $20 an hour doing surveys. I can log into my cashcrate account right now and record the process if you don't believe me. On other days depending on my mood, I can make $30 an hour.

    So I have NO IDEA where you got your $2 an hour estimate from. Surveys were one of the first things I did to make money online. The reason I don't do it anymore is because the act of filling out surveys (even the autofill software I use for my personal details) just sucks. It is mindnumbing and so boring you will feel like you're in hell after only 20 mins of doing it.

    If I could get past that intense feeling of discontent, I could definitely make $20/hr EASILY filling out surveys.

    The $2/hr figure you mention I have no idea where you got the number from. Go fill out surveys on cashcrate for an hour you'll make more than $2 guaranteed.

    Unless you're talking about something different idk. But your figure is just way off afaic.

    Its actually not bad. I used to do this kind of stuff 6 years ago when I made around $50 a day doing surveys. It won't be 300/hr but you make a decent amount every day.

    It also depends on the site you sign up on and the credit rate of each survey AND how much the advertiser is paying.

    If your getting $2/hr something is wrong and or your really pathetic.

    I've got 6 years experience in this stuff and I know that a newbie should be able to rake in more than $5 EASY an hour which is more than 200% of what you said.

    I pity all the people who said only $10 a month or less because if you actually knew how TRAINN works then your making an easy $200+ a day. (Good old days haha)

    I was part of these survey sites back in 2010 and I know my personal experience was terrible! The surveys all paid between 1-5$ and they pre-screened to see if I was in their correct demographic, and if I was, they would send me to the survey. The problem was, at any time I could give an answer that they didn't like and they would say"thank you that is all the questions we have for you today" and then there would be no compensation.

    No site that I ever went to had surveys that only took 5 minutes. The average was 45 minutes to an hour for usually a dollar or two. The biggest paycheck I ever got was 90$ from Opinion Outpost and it took me like 2 months to get it.

    I recently wrote an article about how to earn money by filling out online surveys. You definitely can make some extra cash but I seriously doubt you can make a full time income just from taking surveys. Additionally, most of the companies that will pay you to write surveys are only available in the U.S. Whenever I try to sign up I get a "Sorry, this offer is not available in your country." error so I have never been able to try my own hand at taking surveys.

    But you can make some extra cash every now and then.

    Not all surveys are bad. Panels like Pinecone,Opinion Outpost, Ipsos etc. are legit and do pay. I would suggest to join surveys that pay by PayPal.

    I started out online by taking surveys through sites like surveyspot.com. I had to lie my ass off to qualify for any of them, otherwise you would just end up answering the same long list of questions that are asked for ALL of them and then get kicked out of it once they figured out you weren't the type of respondent they were looking for.

    Back then, I had no clue how to make money online at all, but I was determined to start somewhere so I didn't mind stretching the truth a bit in order to see how much I could make. It became like a guessing game, trying to figure out how they wanted me to answer in order to continue on with the rest of the survey. Didn't always work, but pretty often. Some were a lot less obvious than others.

    Also, the focus groups are where it's at. I originally took a survey through surveyspot that was a focus group at a taco bell in my area (I had my choice of several different locations) and they have me on their own email list now and send me private invites on a fairly regular basis to taste test new products and get paid $25 for doing so.

    Obviously these are much sweeter deals. Free food and money too! Hard to beat that. Also, I took another survey that was for a new drug that a hospital in my area was doing tests with and since I have a medical condition that is fairly common, I qualified. They were going to pay me quite a bit to try the medication, and the risk level was very low. I would have done it, but I couldn't have passed the drug test, lol. So that sucked.

    Anyway, the point is...there are lots of good opportunities. Another place to search for focus groups or paid studies is Craigslist in the "other/ect" category under jobs. I have had some profitable luck with that resource in the past as well.

    But on average, I was getting about $10 every other day to my Paypal account when I was at the height of my survey taking. You gotta start somewhere I guess.

    Just get out of that ASAP obviously.

    This is good advice. I have also had some luck making money here and there. Overall I think the online survey thing is mostly a scam though. Half of the time there is malware on those sites and things that you have to do EXACTLY right or you will not be paid.

    When I hear people saying man I can make some extra money online doing surveys start laughing...

    I don't mess with surveys any more I hate surveys...

    First time that I encounter myself with paid surveys I was around 13 years old. I payed $30 to this guy who promised to give me access to a list of companies who would pay me for doing surveys, he used all that hyped sales letter and brag about how he made thousands of dollars doing surveys from home.

    After all, it was all a lie, I found myself doing surveys to possibly win a prize. I was 13, around 2004, dumb and stupid but I learned.

    Few years later, around 2007 or later I sign up for another website, I paid $0 and within a month they send me a $10 check.

    Now last time was around last year, I made almost $50 but I spend like 20 dollars of mine for a total profit of like 25-30 dollars.

    I'll never go back to it, it's worthless..However clicking ads for $ it's even worst!

    This is funny. I do about one a day when they arrive in my mailbox takes me about 10 minutes.

    As an hourly rate it works out as about $12 an hour, not good. But its ten minutes a day and I get an insight into marketing trends...

    I first started out making money taking surveys as a means to pay for learning how to make proper money online! Most of it is rubbish but you can earn up to $5 for taking a 20 minute survey. I remember signing up with them all! In the end I cancelled all accounts apart from 3.

    My advice - stay clear!

    I also did some mystery shopping which was fun and better paid. But if you want a real income then you have to create your own business - its takes time but it is a far more realistic way to make money in the long term.

    I live in Northern Europe and over here I have seen, the last couple of weeks: "Make money from home 300 dollars from 15 minutes of work" Ads on Facebook.

    I never bought into the "make money with surveys", but over here most people have not seen all the IM stuff that has been going on for years and years in the states and elsewhere.

      Taking surveys did work then,I remember at one point making $300 out of nowhere just taking a 3hr survey....nowadays i think its not something to earn a living though it still work with some people.

    I never make a dime taking surveys... but I'm ashamed to say that I once made money promoting a clickbank product related on this... even when in the review i said it won't work, that it was a waste of time and you will never qualify for surveys that actually make you money... even so I made a few sales...

    I think surveys are a way to make quick cash for newbies just like PTCS or GPTS. We all know we can't make a long term income with that, that's not how Internet marketing works.

    I think these are all scams, I have tried many times but never successes. These type of site asks to sign up then next step and the last step ends with pay money only...... and the sites that are free never return back with any such task. I wasted my time and money. It had been obvious in my opinion in which they claim that online surveys generate income had been phony as no one wanted to pay real cash. Nevertheless, there are many offers for junk, coupon codes and rubbish for my time. It will be prudent for you to avoid those online survey sites. You will only be disappointed by their unethical declare that surveys generate income. It is very tough to find a genuine site.

      There was one legit company that sent me offers about 3 - 4 years ago where I had a good $100+ in my account prior to forgetting about them lol

      I think the worst are those with the facade of a survey company where they actually just act as the middle man for various CPA marketers looking to make a quick buck, albeit unethical and against ANY CPA network's TOS, from people just looking for fast and easy money.

      Then they get like 10/20 cents for 3 - 5 minutes of work. Just yikes

    Never did surveys myself, but I did help set a survey offer up for a client's site not too long ago. It was only temporary, however, but he did pay the qualified applicants who took the survey, and it was really just a lead gen tactic he wanted to try.

    Yeah surveys are hit or miss. If you go to the legitimate sites, you CAN get paid. I few hundred a month in your free time sounds about right. I also used to work for a survey company (cold calling- ugghhh) and we would pay people $40 to do a taste test. This data is really valuable to companies and there ARE legitimate companies that will pay out for public opinion. I teach people how to fill out surveys very quickly but ONLY as PART of a strategy to build start-up capital (then invest that money in a real sustainable business.) I would be VERY surprised if anyone could make a full living with paid surveys.

    I think surveys are a great start for teenagers who may not be able to get into certain opportunities because of age or lack of money to invest.

    I made a couple hundred from surveys and it really helped me out when I was a teenager. Paid surveys gave me my first taste of making money online.

    Happy and safe holidays.

    One thing to always be mindful of there are people in every vocation that will try to sell anything regardless of the value or merit. If they can make 1.00 out of how to fly to mars in 4 seconds during the winter, it will be sent to their list.

    In addition there are many people that are getting paid upfront behind the scenes to market a service/product. I don't know if it is the case here but let me give an example.

    John and Jane Doe are the #1 product reviewers in the world. ABC Survey company knows that they are also not the most ethical and for compensation of some sort (cash and or goods, trips, etc.) the Doe family would be happy to make a video about Survey For Dollars in 2014.

    With almost 4 million video views on their YouTube Channel and a website that gets 59,000 people a month the survey company knows it is win-win for both.

    I am not saying that is the case here but there are back alley deals that go on all the time and that is why on the surface it may seem strange a guy that normally emails a list about Search Engine Optimization is talking about a new Rock Band. Believe me there is a method to the madness (a shame but a method anyway).
