The Irony of it All

Funny how things can turn around. About 14 months ago, I knew absolutely zilch about search engine optimization, article marketing or affiliate marketing. So, I decided to try affiliate marketing (knowing absolutely nothing about how to market the products).

Threw up a few affiliate links on forums, classified ad sites and of course, never made a sale. Why? Because I didn't know to write articles, had never heard of seo, and didn't know squat about blogging or building a website.

As time went on, I gradually learned about all of these things. I put what I had learned into motion, built a few websites myself, and became a crazed article writer. All I wanted to do was make money with affiliate marketing! Now I do. So, what is so ironic about all of this?

I now do better at ghostwriting, building websites and search engine optimization than I do at marketing. In fact, I just started ghostwriting 10 days ago and already I've made more money than I did in my first 2 months of affiliate marketing. The best thing? I LOVE it!

Seems that I'm better off on the other end of the scale - writing, building websites and selling them, helping people with seo campaigns.

Just goes to show you. You may find that you are successful doing something you never intended to do when you first started out! The whole process is a learning experience. Now I know what they really mean by "multiple streams of income".

      Hi Tess,

      I like stories like this - where goal achieving goes hand in hand with course correction. Nice positive feedback loops are fun to learn and earn from, aren't they! ;-)

      BTW - are you keeping records of your 'successes and failures' along the way? Might, one day, make a series of interesting products and courses. New Peeps are always interested in how folks start doing well after trying a bunch of things.

    You can get good an almost anything if you are keen to learn and you invest a little bit of effort into each daily.

    My SEO started in a similar way. Trying to teach myself SEO by doing a competition. It triggers a thought process that goes beyond just existing - a competition is great for stimulating action.

    That's great. there are so many ways to make money in related fields... like ghostwriting.. graphics.. etc...

    once you ghostwrite for others, its only a matter of time before you pull off a tiffanydow and show your face!!

    I think that is the story of life for most folks.

    Very few start off knowing what they should do and where their best opportunities lie. Sometimes the best strategy may be NO strategy at all.
    Just to continue jumping in the water and doing things.

    If any newbies read this thread, keep on learning and applying what you learn. The most important thing is to take action - DO something, whether you think it is right or wrong. You will be surprised where you are at one year from now if you work hard and don't give up!
