Oneplusone has answered your first question so I'll recommend DLGaurd for the second and only because I've not used anything else

I agree... I use DLGuard too and it integrates with PayPal or a dozen other payment processors including Authorize.net and Clickbank. If I have a problem with one I can easily switch to another in minutes.

It has a feature that automatically ads your buyers to your Aweber email list , just remember to double opt-in. I always say "join our exclusive buyers list for nice discounts on future products". That usually converts well.

Sounds like a commercial... but I do like it. Heads up if you are running shared hosting on Godaddy. You can do it but you will need to download "ioncube" which is a real hassle. Works like a champ on HostGator and others.

      It's $5/month.

While ejunkie is only $5 per month, DLGuard is a one time purchase that integrates with Aweber beautifully. You can deliver as many products as you can make with it. It's a must have piece of software for me.

If people want to share your pdf they will find a way to do it. If there is a way to 'protect' your PDF then you can bet there will be a way for people to 'unprotect' that same file. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

E-Junkie has this service too Worth noting me thinks, it would certainly help with the file sharing sites, but won't stop friends and relatives (they do that with physical books though)

        PDF Stamping for E-book security:
Each buyer's copy of your PDF eBook file can be stamped with their name, email address and unique transaction ID, which discourages sharing and allows you to identify who shared your file if you do happen to find a copy out "in the wild" somewhere.

There is also a wordpress plugin (paid for) that will stamp the pdf's with the the same information too.

What I have found in the past is that the more lengths you go through to try and secure something, the more of a challenge it becomes to those inclined to share it... and they love a challenge.

People could just take screen shots of the PDF pages, whack them in their own PDF, and have a copy (untraceable) online within five minutes. Seriously, there is no way you can publish information online and then expect to prevent it from being shared - it's impossible.

Make the buy now button the submit button of a email submission form. In order to buy the product they have to provide their email address and hit "Buy Now". Then you redirect them to your order page where the email address is already prepopulated. This way, they are not required to put in any data twice, but they are on your list.

And by entering their email address they have already completed one step of the ordering process, and are less likely to interrupt it at this point.

Digital Delivery App has PDF stamping where it adds the name and email address of buyers to the PDF. This won't completely stop people from copying your PDF but it will make them think twice if their name and email address are on the product.
