Cloaking WHOIS information

Hi there,

In need of help from you guys out there in WF land!

I recently bought a domain and then found that it was an aged domain (2004) with 8 backlinks still attached!! How good is that!

Well, within weeks it is sitting on Page 1 for 3 keywords which are getting 25000 searches per month (phrase match) and with over 2 million competition and has been there throughout Panda and the like!

My predicament is this...

I have been told that because there was a break of 12 months between the last domain owner and myself that once the search engines get wind of it they could re-rank the site, thus losing its age and links.

Can anyone shed any light on whether it is a good idea to hide my details on WHOIS or not. I have also read that the search engines may not index you if your details are hidden

AAAGGGHHH!!!!

Looking forward to your thoughts

Jon

Google may de-rank site for other things such as no new content added or no backlings being build etc.

I believe it's a wild gossip to say the least. I know lots and lots of high-traffic sites that have their WHOIS details hidden - yet, Google loves them.

To summarise, if your business or personal identity need strict privacy then you may want to go for hidding WHOIS, if you only worry about 'de-ranking' - I wouldn't bother. I believe it's non-sense.

I can assure you that search engines do not check your WHOIS record to rank you. Bing doesn't do it, Dogpile doesn't do it, and I can't imagine any reason Google would.

    Whois doesn't matter at all.

That said, are you sure you're ranking on page 1 for 2 million competition 25k search terms? Make sure your webhistory is turned off so Google isn't giving you personalized search results.

it doesn't matter if you hide or ride. It's a dropped name and pr will drop but link will stay. So if I was you keep adding relevant content slowly and build up. Don't rely too much on pr its not what brings you money, its the content that does.
