Took me 11 websites to figure out what works.

It took me to make 11 websites to figure out what works and what doesn't. Out of these 11, only 4 websites worked and made me some money. They make me about 100$ per month.

Just a question? Is there a limit to how many websites a person can have?

The only limit is imagination and money, there are people that own thousands upon thousands of sites

There is no limit, but with every website you get, the less time you spend on your previous websites. You need to find the optimum balance, as there does become a point where you can have too many websites and they become counterproductive.

You should keep your best websites, cull your worst and try and develop sites that are better then the ones you are keeping.

I agree with Jake. I will add that you should take a look at your unsuccessful websites. Now that you know what it takes, maybe you can go an "fix" the others.

Keep in mind that it takes a lot of time and effort to to make a site successful. Based on the fact that you have 11 sites, I would say that you have not spent too much time on many of them. Maybe some of them we unsuccessful because you gave up too easily.

Analyze each site, and plan out some objectives.

You can figure out which site has the most potential and focus on making that one successful.
      or
You can market several at a time to save time. (If you are building a link for one, you can easily build a link for 3 or 4)

The point is have a plan, implement it, and make sure you manage your time wisely.

Yeah, I think a website is either a hit or missed. Sometimes its even seasonal so you won't really see a lot of traffic until a particular season is approaching.

Forgot to mention... that you should compare this success to pro baseball...

A professional hits the ball 3 out of 10 times and he's super famous. One of the best.

You are hitting 2.75 4/11 that's pretty dang good. Keep it up

Another baseball analogy... when he was playing, Babe Ruth held the highest number of home-runs but what most people don't know is that he also had the highest number of strike-outs!

You can build as many websites as you can. There's no limit. However, it would make sense in the long run to try and maintain or update them.

I am very happy for you that you figure out what works! Now all you have to do is replicate the process for your successful websites. And to answer your question, there are no limits to the amount of websites you can have - the only limit may be you wont have enough time and resources to manage a ton of them all at once.

No limit! Create more, weed out the bad one and focus on the good one, outsource and scale!

    • Well, actually there is a limit if you're determined to bootstrap and not invest additional capital.

If four websites make you $100/month profit (not revenue) each, obviously that's $400 you can put back into your business. You could easily build one new site a month, spend some money to have articles written and have backlinks built, and create new content for your 4 existing sites. Let's say it takes a year for each new site to start generating $100 a month in profit.

      You start with $400.
      June 2012 adds $100
      July 2012 adds $100
      August 2012 adds $100
      September 2012 adds $100
      October 2012 adds $100
      November 2012 adds $100
December 2012 adds $100...So here it is 1 1/2 years later and now you're netting $1100 a month. Plus you have a suite of valuable properties you could sell.

Do you have the patience to build slowly and steadily?

My only caution here is that there seems to be a lot of people that subscribe to this notion of replicating a $100 a month site. The problem is, I would argue that any site not making around $2500 or more is *extremely* susceptible to big earnings fluctuations and not at all reliable.

Let's say you're making $100 on a site and it's selling a $20 product that you make $10 on - that's 10 sales. Some of these $100 sites are only making 2 or 3 sales a month - hardly something you can call consistent.

My personal feeling is that it you pick a niche and structure a site around it correctly you can continue to grow that one site and it's a lot easier to take it from $100 to $200 (and then to $1k and $5k) than it is to find and equal number of other $100 sites.

Anyway, not trying to force my way of thinking on everyone - but just consider it...

For one, Google is really getting big on "authority" and smaller sites are suffering more and more rankings losses, etc... and the solution of adding more sites is ultimately not a scalable one. You still have to maintain them, add content to them, etc...

My opinion doesn't just come from speculation. I've had hundreds of sites and in fact still do but it's a network for other SEO purposes. But that was a few years back and when I moved away from that "more small sites mentality" and instead focused on high quality big sites earnings skyrocketed.

Anyway, just my opinion and my personal experience, so take it for what it's worth...

What you can do once they are successful is use the profits to outsource and work on new ones.

Its up to you. If you can manage a number of websites simultaneously then you should manage, but the problem is that you have to give proper attention to every web sites.
