So how many of you good folk are full time IM's?

I'm just a newbie asking a question that has probably been asked a million times before,

but I'm genuinely interested and I'm sure some of you would enjoy bragging

Cheers for any replies!

I build products and communities on the Internet, have grossed deep in 7 figures, which utilizes IM. I don't do the silly get rich schemes, black hat, or any of that crap. I have quality software and quality communities and market those very successfully.

I was full time for about 8 years but now I'm semi retired working about 8 hours
or so a month. Just enough to keep me from being bored but not so much that
I can't do the things that I really love. Took a long time to get here but it was
worth all the 14 hour days to do it.

Full time and loving every minute of it. Been full time working for myself, for over 5 years now...

Being new, work hard, smart, focus, and all the hard work will be worth it... it's worth it in the process, and it's worth it when you finally say goodbye to that 9-5...

Full time working from home since September last year.

The positive side is obviously the flexibility - I'm in a coffee shop in London as we speak, having a look around after attending an event down here yesterday... It's good to be able to take days off and make it up during the evenings and weekends.

The negative side is the isolation - Some days I don't leave the house and it can be difficult to get going. If you've been accustomed to working in an environment where there is lots of banter and laughs at work (which I was), then you will miss that.

    Full-time IM around a year...

Previous Job - Waiting Tables at Cracker Barrel (great food, crappy place to work, lol) but this was a great job once I started seeing more IM success because I could "give away" shifts easily so I kinda "weaned" myself away from it...

Definitely worth the long hours to get here

    • I had a well-paid niche technical career for a number of years and when that work was drawing to a close, I jumped to selling on eBay full-time. I stayed with eBay much longer than I should have because, while it was a cash generation machine, it left me with absolutely no time to do anything else, including taking care of my health and relationships. Not many people can say they have physical scars from being an eBay seller but I can.

So I had *that* talk with my spouse. You know the talk, the one that starts "I need you to be our sole support for a while so I can get this non-eBay business off the ground." I pointed out that if he insisted on me paying household bills with my new biz revenue it would kill the business and he'd have to support me *anyway*. Lo and behold, he saw the light.

The only downside is that people think you don't have a real job so you're free to do whatever they demand of you. My MIL thinks I should have spent several months taking care of her full-time after her accident; just leave my own work and my own little family by the wayside and go wait on her hand-and-foot. Hard feelings persist.

Yes, I'm a full-time IMer -- and proud of it.

This is my tenth year as a fulltime marketer. A lot of hard work, frustration, and failures seemed to dominate my reality during my first year. I even almost quit a couple of times. But looking back, knowing what I know now, if I had to do it all over again I would have worked even harder. Corporate America and all the silly office politics used to drive me insane, and one cannot put a price on real freedom from corporate whims.

I used to feel isolated too when I first got started, but I joined a couple of weekly and bi-weekly mastermind groups. It's great when you can talk via IM or meet up in person and talk about marketing, business, and what's going on in one another's lives.

I went full time in the beginning of 2007 I think it was. Ive survived somewhat from my property investing thankfully, however more of my income is now coming from IM alone.

See, I don't have that problem anymore. I spend a lot of time now helping
an offline business on site. So I get to talk to the owner, customers and have
a pretty good time. It's kind of weird after working on my own exclusively for
      so many years.

Plus, I get out a lot more now than I did when I was working 14 hour days.
So now it gets to the point where every once in a while I need some time
to myself. So that's when I get in front of the PC and actually do some
      work.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's because I want to and not
      because I have to. That's a feeling I haven't known before and it's quite
      nice.

Of course now my daughter expects me to be at her beck and call whenever
she needs something now that she knows that daddy doesn't have a blasted
thing to do anymore. THAT is why I started doing the offline stuff, just to
give me an excuse to get out of the house. In fact, tomorrow afternoon
around one I'll be spending a few more hours at the store.

      Yeah, life is good.

This thread is great. You know what would make it even better.

      A poll!!

      Kinda like

      Full time
      3/4 time
      1/2 time
      part time
      for extra money
a few bucks for hobbies and luxuries

      My 2 cents.

Also, I'm just beginning, so far away from full time.

      Cheers,

      Jauar

Fulltime since December 2007. However, "fulltime" isn't the issue. I'm happier that I am "fully supported" by my IM business. I know a lot of people who spend more than 8 hours a day but make very little money.

I've been doing this full time ever since I graduated high-school and mostly-full-time even while I was in high school I would always have my laptop checking on my myspace sites that were all the rage in the early 2000's.
