Help! Spam Texts...How do I stop them?

Hi Warriors,

I just received a spam text from Yahoo:

"A Yahoo! user is trying to send you a text message. When it arrives, select 'Reply' to continue the conversation. For more info, visit, mobile.yahoo.com"

Seconds later, I received the spam text, telling me I've won a Best Buy gift card and to go to a Facebook link they provide to claim it.

???!!!!

I don't recognize the username and I deeply resent the spam text. I have two Yahoo accounts, one of which I abandoned due to overwhelming spam. The other is beginning to become the same way. (It's not my primary account.)

I have NO idea where/how they got my number. I'm used to dealing with e-mail spam, although I've had to abandon accounts because of it, as I mentioned. But I REALLY resent the text spam. I'M PAYING FOR THE MESSAGES!

There was no opt out option given. Does anyone know how I can stop this???

You can try contacting yahoo directly. Or contact your cell provider to see if you can manually block the texts from your account.

Look at the number the text came from. Is it a short code (i.e., not a full number)?

Contact your carrier (AT&T, Verizon, Whoever...) and ask them to block that short code.

My guess is that someone got your number without permission (either by harvesting it, or by someone else submitting it into a form).

Definitely request a refund for those text messages as well...

    Hope that helps!
