Soooo Comedy Websites Make Money?

I've been writing comedy, comic books, comic strips for years.

I've always noticed that comedy twists in my copywriting business booms sales and traffic. It didn't dawn on me until I started using Facebook more. I would write a funny post and friends would post it all over the place. I looked at it and said, "What if I targeted this kind of traffic?".

Lo and behold I look on WF and saw some WSOs talking about comedy.

So as a cartoonist and writer I'm going to parlay those skills into more comedy sites/blogs.

Anyone have success with this format or have WSOs or other tutorials regarding it?

Well... create an authority site in the vein of Cracked.com. These guys are digg darlings and probably make a ton from display advertising.

Just remember that they have a full time staff of web developers, designers, writers and editors. On top of that they have a large fan base that they actively recruit to help create content for their site.

Recreating Cracked or even something similar is not a 1 person job.

Just wanted to throw that out here cause you often see people saying stuff like they want to do their own version of popular site Y not realizing that dozens of people work full time for popular site Y and that it's not some guy who bought a WSO

Greg there's someone who has a wso about doing cartoon videos...very clever actually. You may have seen that one. I'd agree there's always opportunity for funny material online...it sounds like that's a natural direction for you, so I'd go for it.

      Thanks Warriors!

Yes, a site like "Cracked" is strong. They've asked me to write for them and do toons. I could get a start out there. My sister worked for "Mad" magazine for years.

I also ran into Tracy Repchuk. Didn't know she was an IM guru. Just coming to WF is like an avalanche of opportunities to follow.

I've been doing copywriting for starts and have more work than I can handle, however it's been a great learning experience to see how clients want their articles and other copy optimized. The ones I write humor for do the best and keep coming back.

If I raised my rates by just $1 I would be in high five figures and that's just from 8 months doing IM. I've not even had time to create my own products yet. When I do I know I'll have a good nest egg or retirement money.

With homes and properties going for dirt cheap nowadays, just stashing away $100k can get you a property that used to go for $1 mill not too long ago.

That would give a base of operations to work from as long as you've internet access.

Now comes the planning. Will start a simple blog that I can showcase some humor writing and toons and see what breaks off.
