Bing, Google & Yahoo agree on new mark up that makes web pages easier to read for better SE results.

What is Schema.org?

"This site provides a collection of schemas, i.e., html tags, that webmasters can use to markup their pages in ways recognized by major search providers."

"Search engines including Bing, Google and Yahoo! rely on this markup to improve the display of search results, making it easier for people to find the right web pages."

"In the spirit of sitemaps.org, Bing, Google and Yahoo! have come together to provide a shared collection of schemas that webmasters can use."
Webmasters "can use" the new collection of tags recognized by all 3 search engines as of 5/27/11

If they do, what effect do you think that will have on SERP and page ranking?

Only time will tell. Looks like another easy way for people to manipulate the serps though.

Nothing is ever what it seems. Why would all 3 ban together and contribute to more spam through easier manipulation? I think it's a way for them all to bounce anyone who does try and fool the search engines with those tags.

What about those who do use them for helping the search engines read and understand their content more accurately? Two sites in the same niche: One is using the new schema correctly and the other is not. That's what I'm wondering about.
