Which do you find better?... Twitter marketing or Facebook marketing?

Hello,

I wanted to get as many people as possible to give me a short answer as to what they find better (most profitable, most responsive to ads) for their marketing out of the two top social networking sites Twitter and Facebook. (Sorry Myspace, you kind of got left in the dust back in 2007)

If you can give a reason.. then great, but if its a simple choice and nothing else, then I'd still like to hear it.

Thanks

Your best bet is to use both, but if I had to choose I'd go Facebook. It's more targeted

But surely you could target a Twitter account too? I mean if you made it so that the only time people followed you would be when they see what you're all about?

      I agree with this point.

That means so far Facebook are up 1-0.. (not 2-0, based on the fact that you can target a specific group of twitter followers too)

I'd say Facebook is the better option, it is a larger market. It is also a lot easier to target specific groups of individuals. Twitter can be very profitable but it requires a big following that takes some time to build up.

Valid points baxxor. It is definitely the larger market (but for how long? hmmm) - Yes I suppose it is easier to target specific groups (albeit you would have to pay for this) building up a following though takes just as much trime as facebook though.

But all in all, another valid argument for facebook.

To be honest having tried both, both take ages to generate enough traffic to make decent money with.

You need at least 2000 friends on ya facebook profile to get sales from it and dont want to appear as a spammer. Fan pages can be better and I would encourage you to start building one.

I dont know a single person who has made a fortune from twitter, again because it takes quite a long time to build up enough of a following to make consistent day job quitting sales.

I would use those social sites in a different way. I would firstly focus all my efforts to get my facebook and twitter friends to join my list if they have not already. I would also use the sites as a way to build some social proof by people being able to see you are a helpful, friendly, trustworthy and fun person.

My list on the other hand is what has made me the most money every single time hands down, plus facebook or twitter cant steal my list.

I would then encourage twittering and facebooking of my stuff by creating raving fans out of my list. I would have social buttons on my squeeze pages to get people to like my opt in page and post tweets.

Helps to have a really useful or compelling video directly on your squeeze page rather than something that just tells them to opt in for the free information or sample.

Facebook ads on the other hand have really done me some good ROI's recently. So perhaps give that a go too.

If ya need any assistance send me a PM

Great post with some true value here. However with Facebook Ads and Facebook pages being mentioned (without Twitter having anything of its own - at the moment), I would say this post swings to the favor of FB more.

Totally agree with you about keeping it "social". In fact over at the Million Dollar Network, there is a discussion happening now about lists and relationships - you should check it out... here.

Yes, I agree. With Twitter being the "new guy" it doesn't want to be so "tight" about its policies (at least not yet). And therefore can allow the marketer to promote with a bit more freedom.

Although you prefer using Twitter (ease of use?), at the end of the day, for the marketer it comes down to results. As Facebook does this more for you.. they get the point.

This is more true than on Facebook. People on facebook are there more to socialise with friends and family, play games etc. However with Twitter its more specific, direct. Sure Twitter is a social site too, but I think you'll find more buyers waiting on Twitter. If you've collected your followers in the right way that is.

Think It Warrior: I agree with you that both take a long time. As you suggested, a fan page is a lot more effective than gathering a targeted friends list.
With some experimenting and testing Facebook ads can be bought really cheap per click, actually insanely cheap considering the ROI's people have been getting.

Love the analogy. I always tell people that it's easier to find people on Twitter and it's easier to share content on Facebook. A tag-team approach is best.

What's funny Jeffrey is I see EVERY DAY on this forum someone bashing twitter about how "it doesn't work" and "people don't buy things on twitter"

If I showed you my webstats you would be STUNNED at how much traffic I get in from twitter. It is ALWAYS my number 1 referrer by a long shot, nothing even comes close to it.

    I mean, think about it....

Here is a 140 character pitch that gets you interested....it's like the loss leader a store puts in a newspaper ad.

Once you get them into the store, that's when the best of the best convert.

All the selling happens in the store.

Every day when I read these posts about how "Twitter doesn't work".....I'm like.....ummmmm.......duh?

I see the same things, and I totally agree with you. The people saying that Twitter sucks and you can't make money on it are using it like the old FFA boards and just blasting out sales links in the hopes that they make some sales. Well, of course no one is going to buy from them.

I'm not on Twitter to buy from you, I'm on Twitter to interact with you and other like-minded people. Once the relationship is established, if you have what I need or what I'm interested in, then the chances of me buying from you skyrocket.

Twitter is a SOCIAL network. Be SOCIAL on Twitter (and Facebook), and save the sales pitches for your websites/blogs/emails. Establish relationships and network with people in your niche. Give them a reason to visit your sites, and potentially buy your products. Give them a reason to write blog posts linking to your sites. Give them a reason to mail their list about your product, or to jv with you.

The benefits of this approach will FAR outweigh the occasional sale you MIGHT get from just blasting out a ton of sh*t and hoping some of it sticks to the wall.

I don't try to specifically generate income from either. I use them to send traffic to my blog and go for an opt-in. By far the best traffic I have received is from Twitter at this point because I automate the entire process and send links to my free blog posts.

I use Hootsuite to automate it and have been very happy with the results. I have some free videos on it in module 7 (traffic) at the link below if you want a step by step.
