how to start blogging

Hello Everybody
I've just found this forum while googling Rob Benwell to see whether his ebook would be a worthwhile investment.
I am thinking of starting a blog and if there is a chance to make a bit of money off it, why not, so I want info to set it up properly from the outset.
What do you think of Rob Benwell's ebook and Yaro Starak's course for making money from a blog? Or could you recommend something better?
Thank you very much for your time

Start blogging by getting ideas.. Be focus on what you want. Much better if you'll focus on the things that you used to do.

PS Thanks button has now appeared, I'm sure it wasn't there when I started writing all my thankyou notes. Sorry about the clutter but then again, I'm new here so I hope you don't mind the personal touch. These used to be called 'bread-and-butter letters'--does anybody still know the term?

Thank you so much for offering all that useful info free, I'll get started with that and come back if/when necessary. BTW where is your Aussie accent? I've lost mine after being expat in Greece for half my life.

I never picked one up. I was born and have lived all my life in Brisbane Australia, however my parents were Canadian and migrated to Australia and then I was born.

I listened to them and picked up their accent and it stuck, even throughout the Australian schooling system.

It does make me feel like I'm part Canadian and most of my family are there too. If only the two countries weren't so darn far apart!

LOL thanks for your reply Yaro. My son's music teacher is Canadian but I wouldn't have placed your accent as Canadian, either. Sounds like you can have the best of both worlds, two summers (or two winters, if you prefer) in a single year! Greece is so far from Australia, too, in more ways than one.

I have been blogging for more than a year trying to make money out of it. Unfortunately, I had more failures than success. While I am trying to pick up the broken pieces, I realized that I should not attach them again. Instead, I am now staring on each piece and analyzing why they were broken.

One of my failures I guess was trying to ask everybody's opinion about the best strategy, or mentor. No, I am not saying that you should not get one. In fact, I now have one. Nobody recommended him to me. The funny thing is I am not even looking for one when I found him. I just realized that he can help me. We did not talk about service free, because he is doing it to me for free. I pay him by telling him the things he don't know, casual talk you know.

So what's my point here? Understand the system first - read, read and read. Then, analyze them. Afterward, know what you can do more than what you want. There are tons of ways on how to make money online but the question is - are you capable of doing them? You can't be successful in anything you cannot do. Sometimes, what we want will not make us good money. We can only be happy because we are passionate about it.

I don't know much about Rob, but I have been watching Yaro Starak's style. He has some free videos to learn from anyway.

So, who would I recommended? Anybody who you think is knowledgeable about the things you can do, but you just don't how to do it the right way.

It's good to ask, as most of us are doing it. I am doing it too. However, we must remember that works for A may not work for B. I hope I am not being trying-to-be-good here, because I am not really good. I just want to share my thoughts based on my experience.

    Good luck!

Please don't think that I want to sound rude. But wordpress.com is not allowed to use Adsense. I think he should prefer it over blogger.com, but if someone likes to use a free blog more bloggers will suggest the latter. One does not even need to be techie savvy either.

If this is something that you plan on doing for a while, you need to get some paid hosting with cpanel with fantastico. Then set up your blog (it is automated) and write some content then start to post to your blog. Once you get some content on you new blog then start to monetize it with some affiliate links or links for your own products. I DO NOT suggest you use adense as you can do much better overall with clickbank, CJ, and Paydotcom affiliate programs. Throw in a few CPA offers that also pay well and then work on getting some traffic.

When you actually start to think about things they sometimes are very easy.

Hey, forget wordpress unless you get a professional installer. It will install with fantasico, but God forbid you try a plug in with it. Don't believe anyone who tells you its easy to set up. They're only saying that from their perspective. Blogger is basic as well. I didn't blog for two years because I couldn't find what I wanted to use that would fit my needs. I found it. You can get the service if you have a godaddy account. I use it for my blog in my signature file. But then again, I need audio capabilities for what I'm blogging about.

Everything Yaro Starak does is great, so yes I, I can recommend him. Get his free report first for sure.

WordPress.com has problems -- you may find your blog suddenly gone for unexplained TOS problems (they're taking a page from Google's paybook).

WordPress.org -- great but you need some technical skills. Not for everyone (and WordPress fans will start complaining).

TypePad.com -- love them. Not free but they're cheap and have stuff like tech support).

I am a WP fan when you have in on your own hosting package. You can do a lot with it and customize it to the way you want it to run.

If you have a hosting plan with Fantastico, you can also install Joomla! This is a bit more intense, but a very powerful way to present information to your viewers. I like Joomla! for the ability to have public areas and private areas that only members can see. What the rules are for membership is up to you.

With Joomla you can set our site up to look more like a newspaper (sort of) with expending stories, menus and different topics if that is what you want.

I would totally recommend starting with Yaro's eBook Blog Profits Blueprint - it's free, and it's excellent.

Also, pour yourself a cuppa coffee (tea, hot cocoa) and curl up with Yaro's blog, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com. (You can grab that copy of Blog Profits Blueprint at Entrepreneurs-Journey.com)

I've bookmarked a couple of his posts as super-helpful to me, and I know there are a lot more where these came from:

In my opinion, you can't start a blog without knowing what you're blogging about. You must have a topic, a purpose, a goal, a mission as it were ....... "when people think of your site, what comes to mind?" ........ then, once you have defined your site and set up a plan for it, THEN you can start to think about platforms (blogger, wordpress.com), or hosting, and all the technical stuff.

Don't put the cart before the horse here.

    Good luck!!!!

If you're going to start blogging you need to determine if you're just doing it for a few bucks on the side, or if it is going to be a serious business endeavor. If it's the latter, avoid using blogger or any of the other free hosted platforms.

1)Find your own domain and register it. Use Go Daddy, Yahoo, or any other registrar that strikes your fancy. It'll be less than $10 a year, possibly far less if you're using a .info or .biz domain.

2)Host it either at your registrar or at another hosting company, such as Hostgator. I have examples of both blogs and sites hosted at the registrar, and hosted at a different web host out there, but it's nice to not have all your eggs in one basket.

    3) You now own your domain and have a web host. You can get any of the best blogging platforms for free. I use both MovableType and Wordpress, but it's probably to choose one and stick with it. More people probably use WP, and it works very well. Most hosting companies will have a script, such as fantistico, that will install WP for you. If you feel some trepidation about tackling this yourself, there are many Warriors out ther that would be happy to help for a small fee, of course.

4)You can use the default WP theme, but at some point in the near future, you'll want to have one of the many free themes available for WP installed. It will make your blog look much better. After you get to know a bit more about what you're doing, you can modify the new theme to make your blog even more your own.

    5) Start writing. Keep your blog tightly themed. i.e focus on a specific topic. You want to choose a topic that has monetization potential and one you can write about with some authority. You should also choose a topic that you have some passion about or you'll get bored in a hurry. Promises of the big bucks won't be enough to keep you posting and your post count will drop off fast.

    6) After you've been posting and getting the hang of how WP works, you can add some plugins to make things easier. I recommend WP-o-matic to let you turn other people's RSS feeds (that are highly relevant) into blog posts on your blog. The all in one SEO pack is great also, and then add askimet to rid your blog from all the spam comments that you'll otherwise get tired of dealing with (Getting tired of spam comments takes about a day and a half).

    7) Once your up and posting regularly, develop your monetization strategy. You have quite a bit to choose from, but don't go overboard, it will chase away your readers and make your blog look like crap. You can review products and make affiliate bucks from them. If you do that, actually review the products so you can give a review that has value to your readers, or you'll lose credibility (and that's really all you've got). You can do contextual ads, such as Adsense, or you can put up banners and text links to affiliate products and CPA offers. You'll probably end up doing a combination of these.

It will take some time. You'll want to get a solid link generation campaign started, post as much great content as possible, and burn your feed in feedburner, so [people can subscribe to your blog. Use blog carnivals if your blog is in a category that there are a good umber of carnivals for.

    I hope this helps

    Steve

    Hi Sunny,

Blogging is definitely the new in-thing
    to make money online.

Blogs are just like personal diaries and
people do love to read diary posts and
    their content.

What you can do now to start making money:

    1. choose something which you love to blog about
    2. go to clickbank.com to have a rough idea on
what kind of related products are available.

    3. then go to Google keyword tool to find the keywords
(on how to choose, choose those with more than 50 searches a day)

    4. while putting the keywords in quotes (eg "dog training tips"), go google to search for your competition.... which must be less than 20,000 preferably.

    5. then, when you eventually know what keywords you want....choose a domain name....eg dogtrainingtips.com or dogtrainingtips.blogspot.com (from blogger.com)

Just follow these steps to have your fist blog up! =)

    Cheers,
    John

I would say start with a free blog wordpress.com or blogger to get your feet wet on putting one together. It's pretty easy to do with all the help you got here and with Amy and Yaro participating in here on a regular basis, you definitely hit the jackpot. You can see an email I got from Amy about niche blogging and an article that Yaro wrote about traffic tips, on my free wordpress blog, just check my sig file.

I've had mixed experience with Rob Benwell and Blogging to the Bank.

The main product is fine, a solid resource for beginners.

I also signed up for his upsell - a membership course where he would post videos every month. Big mistake. It was three weeks after being billed before there was any content! The videos so far have been very basic, poorly prepared and moving at a very slow pace.

Stick to the main product, not the upsell.

I never thought about blogging before I join this forum. There are so much information and offers here. Maybe too much, but I might have to spend more money to get a decent blog going.

      Thanks
      Jim
