Can any really explain what this really mean in layman terms?

Hey guys,

can anyone explain this for me in layman terms
and what it does, it some new word wordpress
guys came up with.

It's called: Taxonomies

what the hell it is and who to use it?

Is it something we really want to mess with?

    A "taxonomy" is just a classification system.

    I don't know how it's used in WP because I haven't looked at 2.7 yet. I think it's used in Drupal, too, so maybe your man has worked with that before.

    I'm guessing it's just some way of organising content in some type of "tree".

    Remember high school biology class? "Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, etc."
    This is the origin of "taxonomy" as far as I'm aware. It's long been used for all sorts of other classification systems based on relationship, though.

    Does that help? Or is it still as opaque?
