Is this a legal CB cloaking?

I've just seen this and I ask whether it's legal:

http://affiliate.publisher.hop.clickbank.net > DOMAIN1's sales page > DOMAIN2's sales page > CB order page [affiliate = none]

Why this is set to none?
Am I missing something?

Thanks!

There may be nothing wrong here...need more info. The link indicates that no affiliate is getting paid a commission on this sale. This is fine if it is indeed a merchant is doing the promotion.

Create a hoplink for yourself and test it. If the bottom of the payment page still says affiliate=none -- you obviously shouldn't be promoting it.

      O.K here are the sites:

They are owned by two members here so please DO NOT flame me for my ignorance:
I don't want to make any accusations!
I really want to learn but I guess it's weird essentially as there are so many hijacks on clickbank.

On THIS affiliate site the bottom link (before cloaking) shows affiliate.publisher.hop.clickbank.net
but when clicking it interprets into ThePublisher1.com

Scroll down and the bottom link leads to ThePublisher2.com (same publisher takes you to his second website)

Scorll down and the bottom link takes you to CB page with Affiliate = None.

      What is your take?

Right. Always test first to make sure you are not going to lose commissions.

Are you saying that clicking a link on one sales page takes you to another sales page? If so, what does the link say?

Simple! The hop is getting registered for the Publisher1 website, but not for the Publisher2 website since the affiliate is not directly linking to it. There's no way the hoplink could be carried, unless the owner has a specially designed script for that.

Also, a quick overview suggested that the hoplinks are quite old - CB used to have such hoplinks years back. Maybe CB carried-forward the affiliate info at that time.

    I think Publisher1 & 2 are different sites - not accounts.

    And, I was referring to
    http://hop.clickbank.net/?sofsuccess/sofsuccess&l=16
which is on the Publisher1 Page. =)

So you are saying that that is the link in question
      - I did not know how you knew that as Gift did not mention it.

Well that is an affiliate link which uses the publisher's own
affiliate id. So if someone arrived at that page via another
affiliate link then that affiliate would not get credited.

Oh, ignore that, I see now where the link was shown.

It is an odd set up-the first publishers page shows multiple products, each with it's own link. I don't know enough to say that something is wrong, but I wouldn't promote that page.

      Kevin,

I agree with you. I wouldn't promote that page either. I think it's a bit shady of the vendor to have multiple links (products) on the same page since the affiliate of the original product link that got the buyer there won't get any credit for the products clicked on the page.

      Me no like! heh heh

That's why, as previously mentioned, one should click thru the process to see if your aff link is still being registered on the CB order page.

I've emailed the affiliate involved about this

(If there was such a thing as a 'wry' smilie I'd add it here)

          Good job Harvey,

People should promote cakes and let others eat,
          not eat others!

          Cheers

Yeah - no problem! The publisher is redirecting people with his own affiliate link to another page. Me-thinks that the affiliate might have created the link when the publisher had a page with a valid CB Order Link. The publisher might have changed it after that.
