Paypal and Aweber Integration Question

Hi guys,

Just a quick question for anyone who might know.

I know that you can integrate Paypal into Aweber (or vice versa) so that when someone purchases something from you via Paypal they're added to your Aweber mailing list. I haven't actually done it yet though and I had some questions.

My question is: can variables other than their name be sent from Paypal and included into the Aweber email? For instance, if I sell various products at $10, $50 and $100 and someone purchases something from me for $100 could I set up Aweber to personalize the email so that it reads, "Thank you for your recent purchase of $100"? Could I also include the product name? Could I set it up so that Aweber inserts a specific download link depending on which product was purchased?

Yes, I realize I could simply create a separate list for each product but I'd really prefer to have just one list at the moment.

So far the Paypal and Aweber tutorials haven't answered my questions and I'm loath to contact customer support for either company so I thought I'd ask my fellow Warriors first. Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

PayPal sends a lot of information about the purchase back to you. It helps if you know a programming language such as PHP and then take a look at the implementation of the PayPal IPN (Instant Payment Notification).

You could also add all buyers to an aweber list but if you don't use a "double opt-in" you are vulnerable to spam complaints which ultimately put your aweber account at risk.

I've switched from double opt-in to single opt-in and had no increase in complaints. The main thing is that you need to send your list useful stuff!

Please don't mislead people into thinking less they need to when maintaining something as vital to their business(es) as their list.

Its not just about sending useful stuff; although this helps. You also have to ...

      - provide a CLEAR opt-out link/strategy with every email sent
      - a CLEAR statement as to WHY they're receiving this email from you
      - your business contact information
      - you'll want to collect IP addresses at opt-IN time
      - maintain dates and times of opt-ins, as well

All this information should be at your finger tips and readily available at the drop of a hat... just in case sending useful stuff isn't enough to suffice.
