Domain Registering and WHOis

I was curious as to how many of you use the private Whois option when registering a domain name. I have read where people would get suspicious if they looked up the domain name to find the owner(s), and the information was private. What are the positive and negatives of utilizing the private option? Is there really a problem with someone looking up your information, and then spamming you to death? Just wondering....

    It mostly depends on the site that I am going to use the domain for, if it is a site that may stir up some controversy that may become negative I use the private whois, but most of my domains do not carry it. You would be surprised how many people will send email, try to call you, and such once they have decided they do not like your site content or find it offensive.
