Do you let people scare you about Google and Youtube?

Hi Warriors,

There seems to be a bit of a trend lately of people trying to scare warriors into worrying about the behaviour of some popular websites.

Ezinearticles.com getting tougher and Google focusing on duplicate republished content - 'The death of article marketing'

Youtube cracking down on spam videos - 'The death of video marketing'

Google updating their algorithms - 'The death of SEO'

etc.. etc..

You know that some of this is purely to create some fear in you so that you will buy the 'solution' to this 'problem' and it's just cheap sales tactics, and some is people who know they've been abusing these websites and are genuinely worried that their lazy "it's a numbers game so throw as much stuff at the wall as possible" strategy will be killed, and some of it is just people who have a glass is half full mentality and like to stir up concern and take pot shots at the big websites and how they pick on 'the little guys', in the same way as some people have the "the Gurus are out to get us" mentality.

Sure there are selfish agendas at work - but that's true for almost every walk of life and certainly not specific to any online elements.

So - are you now in a position where you're genuinely worried about: article marketing, SEM, publishing videos etc....?

If so, I'd like to offer you some words of comfort.

THINGS ARE NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE MAKE OUT.

The Internet offers a lot of opportunities for a hard working and creative person to create a good income - regardless of ANY of the changes any of the big websites might make.

If you do get stung by a change - don't sweat it. Just remember to not keep your eggs in one basket and to take any changes as a sign that your level of competition probably just went down, so look at what sensibly should work in the niches you operate and just keep moving the cheese so that you're always building on things you've already done and you will find that you can ride out anything that algorithm changes and site policy changes can throw at you.

Don't let people scare you into thinking you need them to tell you how to 'cope' with all the problems they're scaring you with.

Andy

    Hear!! Hear!!!

I don't if it's a recent thread, it seems to be that these doomsday threads come in waves.

I guess it's more frightening when you're new to IM but when you've been around for years, you know that the market (and smart marketers) adapt.

And those that don't, go away.

      Hi Andy,

      I voted for the #2.

You can experience that this kind of threads arise from time to time. It's just a technique people applies, because they want to create some buzz around them.

I just smile on it. Of course, this is suitable to confuse beginners. For a while, at least.

      Best,

      Sandor

Most of those threads don't faze me in the slightest. Not to say that you can't learn from them but I personally don’t worry about it. Most of the things they say (whether its from someone who already got into trouble or someone saying the sky is falling) don't bother me because I have found that for the most part I haven't done the things mentioned or aren’t involved in them the offending way...least not yet.

One also has to consider the source, some of the recent threads have been posted by people who have a track record of posting things to either stir up controversy or lead to a sales pitch for a new product...or both. Not all of course but certainly some...

I agree, it isn't just Google and YouTube but also many others like AWeber, PayPal etc

There are no doubt issues that need to be addressed, but too many of these discussions have a doomsday vibe about them.

I agree in some case, it depends on your own personal circumstances and business model.

Some people SHOULD be scared, but not because of some sales page or thread, they should be scared if it HAS affected their business ...

I wouldn't say it's the DEATH of SEO however?
I took a single contract yesterday worth just under a Grand a Month?

I wouldn't say DEATH of Article Marketing?
It will clean up the system, removing spun and re-written garbage from the searches.

It will ONLY matter if that has been the business model that was followed...

But I think it is for the better, there is a lot of junk in the SEO world.
    Quality, not Quantity.

Most of the time I don't even watch the news anymore.

I just got tired of hearing things from teh newscaster like:

"15 Common Household Items That Can Kill Your Dog" , tune back in at 11:00 and we'll share our info with you.

Things do come and go online, no doubt about it, but diversification is an excellent idea.

Andy, I never listen to people when they tell me the sky is falling.

After 8 plus years, it hasn't fallen on me yet.

Andy .. Nope, the naysayers and doom slingers don't faze me one bit.

I just keep plugging away, doing what I always do and it still is great!

Could be that I'm kinda like Frank Sinatra, ... "I Did It My Way".

I see the poll netted 100% for: "No - I don't care what people say. I find my own way."

It seems the Warriors have seen it all and are not fazed by anything.

I voted for #3 - yes I broke the 100% polling rate for #2, sorry!

I don't feel like a total newbie anymore (only 80% newb!) and I'm too old to get caught up in "the sky is falling" hysteria, but I don't have nearly the experience to read of these changes and quickly know what type of impact to expect.

I'm sure I get a bit more concerned in some cases than I need to, but that just leads to me do more research and really investigate the issue at hand which is a good thing I believe. We need to keep up to date on the industry if we want to be successful!

Thanks for the post Andy. Reading this helps to restore a little perspective to the conversation. Like the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy says right on its cover - Don't Panic!

hi Andy, I chose "no" because as an entrepreneur you "should" naturally accept and embrace change - which is constant, and you should be fearless...in my opinion, anyway

a lot of the stuff people write is absolute garbage and fear-mongering has always been a tactic used to sell.

          Hi Karen,

Those sellers know and apply the psychology. As you know, unfortunately, fear is the driving force in many people more than joy.

Therefore I say always, those who have filled with anxiety, should not to venture into entrepreneurship. It's not for them.

          Best,

To me it's more a sign that you can't have your business dependant on only one source. It is simply diversification. You never know when a source is going to dry up. The one thing I've learned in my short time in this business is that big daddy goggle changes the game on a continual basis. If that is the case, don't put all of your faith in google/Utube. You've got to branch out to other sources of traffic/success.
