Guess I better go back and read through Harlan's post a little more thoroughly. My "4 ways to make money on Squidoo" video got me banned. All my videos gone.

How'd I find out?

A subscriber left me a note on my blog. Nice way to wake up.

Sorry to hear that Tiffany. It's been a tough month for many of us.

First Articlebase ban/delete my account (after having 300+ articles approved) and now Google panda has hit some of my sites as it has with many other people.

Are you going to make another account or forget about YT?

edit - oops I guess bye bye means that answer is no

Tiffany..sorry to hear your videos are gone ... I learned a lot from them.

I guess we are going to have to think up new titles that don't have the
      "make money" in them.

I was going to post my video, but I think I will wait a bit now.

I know it won't be long before you are back at it.

How many video's did you loose Tiffany and I take it you have them elsewhere?

      Really sorry to hear that.

Makes me laugh really, as Roger pointed out in Harlans thread, you can post racial slurs, laugh at disabled people and say anything you like in the comments. You can also post video's promoting terrorism, people being attacked, football hooligans, gypsy fights, dogs mauling each other, a crocodile walking around with a mans arm in it's mouth, to name but a few but...

      BY GOD....

You so much as think of leaving a make money video and they'll rip the rug from under you and wee all over your business.

At least they have their priorities, absolutely where they should be...

I have AS3 and use it for my business but I like free. LOL Not sure if it'd be dirt cheap for hundreds of videos? I have several years of videos there.

Other than it being free there is also the promotion aspect of people seeing it from youtube's site.

Same happened to my IM account Tiff. Over 100 professionally done videos done the tubes!

Good thing is I have all my videos on s3 as well and I never put youtube videos on my site. I just do not trust other companies with my content.

My amazon bill is below a $100.00 a month and I have close to 500 or so videos on it with around 20,000 play a month.

I know they aren't just targetting "make money" video's unfortunately.
Vince Delmonte got about 70 video's banned in one day for no apparent reason. His video's are usually just giving out good fitness content and value. No blatant selling.

Google have lost the plot - I hate how face-less they are and don't give anybody a chance to explain or rectify the problems.

Agree - it says if you want to have it reviewed, contact them but the contact link just takes you to a "thanks, we'll review it" page. You can't even discuss.

      Just to play devil's advocate....

From a business standpoint, it could be extremely laborious and tedious to actually listen to the explanations of the thousands of users....

The most cost effective approach just seems to be banning and moving on.

I think this is the beginning of a trend that will get worse before it improves. Unfortunately good marketers like Tiff will get caught in the crossfire.

I can understand it to a certain point. Look at the posts here - very few people are asking how to provide value or share knowledge. It's about how to slide in your link on Facebook or Twitter, how to squeeze a buck out of a site visitor, how to slip your affiliate link into someone's site. The "make money" and a few other niches have earned a rep for scammy behavior and all of us suffer for that.

Fitness is another niche that's been scammed to pieces and experts will suffer along with the trolls.

Got to say I agree with the views on big G...too big.

I had my adwords account suspended permanently this week. The funny part is that I had never run a campaign, I set one up over 2 years ago and decided against running it. Now, after making millions from advertisers promoting this product they have decided to ban it and anyone who has ever advertised them, including me, who argued with G man cut and paste replier that I had never activated the campaign.

After careful consideration they are not prepared to discuss it any longer.

Well after careful consideration I am going to start using FB more...

Bad luck Tiff, I hope you find a away to retrieve these videos.

Youtube banned one of my accounts because I posted a video on "How to Improve Sexual Performance and STop Erectile Dysfunction"

Google is the only company allowed to make money on the internet.

You serfs need to get back on the digital plantation and start clicking on their ads so they can meet their quarterly earnings.

Remember, Youtube "quality" is big-breasted women in bikinis and dogs farting. Just like "quality" on Adwords is ringtone ads and comparison shopping sites.

Ah but Tiffany, don't you see? Teaching people how to create their own personal economy, that can be expanded as much as they want, is not something to be put up with. Rather, you should just be a drone like so many others, and do what a company/CEO/boss/manager tells you for 40+ years and then at the end politely die and not make too much fuss. Oh don't forget the taxes please. If you've got a solid small business, you get tax breaks, can't have that either..so best to ban anything related to actually teaching people how to be self-sufficient.

Wow...that was a lot more "rant-ish" than I thought. I see it up here in Canada a lot and it drives me mental. People look at me like I've got two heads because I cut the cable completely, went with Boxee/Netflix and only watch a couple of hours of TV a week (most of which are educational, none of which are sports). Charting your own path can certainly be....interesting.

              Free use of their facilities.

So, you think they should contact every last person who they decide to ban and tell them everything the did wrong?

                Yes.

The thing is that either a person is flipping a switch or an automated system is doing it.

If it's a person, then that person knows why the account is being terminated. If they can push a button to terminate an account, they can select a checkbox as to the reason and send a form letter eMail. Perhaps they don't need to do that in every case. I mean, there are cases where someone is an obvious spammer. But, in other cases, certainly it's not unreasonable for them to provide a reason.

If it's an automated system, then the same algorithm that determined an account is in violation also knows what was violated in order to make that determination and, thus, can send an automated message indicating the violation.

yes! adwords have a system in place, when a campaign is denied. it is manually denied and a "stock" reason is given (very ballpark, but it gives an inkling).

this is a very silly move by google - sure, remove a load of accounts but provide some reasons. i'm annoyed, and i only use YT as a viewer!

Every free platform seems to come to the same conclusion as YT about the "make money" niche. I don't think that's a coincidence. WE know some people offer help and advice and great information that can help others get started with a business online.

We also know the number of scammers, spammers and idiots in the make money arena. How many brand new marketers start out by promoting make money products?

At some point we need to look ahead instead of being reactive. Use any platforms you can for as long as you can. But keep building up your own sites as well and don't rely on OPS (other people's sites) to provide your income.

We've seen the rules tightened at Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger, and now YouTube. Whenever there is a platform that might be useful to get customers for your make money services or advice - it will be overrun with crappy offers and the result is everyone is slapped.

I don't think this is the last of the YT cleanup as I do believe other niches will be similarly restricted. I can understand why "make money" is a place to start the cleanup, though. It's a niche where anyone participating has an agenda of some kind. It may be sales - or list building - or branding...but there's a plan in place.

I object to the message YT is leaving on closed accounts - it's like they hit you upside the head and then insult you as well.

In the past when I have created accounts for my seo/sem clients and loaded some very informative audio articles in visually appealing video formats, the account would suddenly get closed - eg Russian dating, and that totally baffled me as the audio articles were helpful information about dating, not Russian etc specific.

Same sometimes happened with some really top quality and helpful free reports published on Scribd or Docstoc (for seo/sem linkbacks) - I think that niche business competitors just cruise the net looking for ways to close down the profiles/accounts of their strongest online competitors.

re: "make money" topic videos, first Squidoo banned any Make Money/credit cards/loans/MLM type subject content on lenses, then after Panda, Hubs also banned anything even remotely MLM on pages (and anything linking to an ebook sales page - WTH??) and now YouTube joins them in banning anything to do with making money. Yes there is some total rubbish posted on the subject --- so just don't approve it to go online in the first place, but leave the good quality relevant content online.

So now I don't dare to go see if my own personal YouTube account is still online *sigh* I must have created and loaded a ton of video articles on it over the years.

I'm lucky that I save all my videos before they get uploaded to YouTube, just like I do with my free report publishing etc. It would be crazy not to for all that work.

I wonder Tiff if you already forgot what happened last time you had a bad encounter with YouTube?

You had a super successful video which was getting tons of traffic (about Squidoo I think), so YouTube contacted you to invite you to participate in the Google ad revenue share ---- which you did ---- and then they immediately banned & deleted the very same video they were singing the praises of a day earlier!?!?!

WTH is going on with these evil people at Google?

C'mon warriors! I think a privately owned video directory that has CLEAR guidelines and rules, that don't change & delete content retrospectively, and has human editors to approve/deny the videos BEFORE they go online and get optimised (to prevent the sp@mmyy cr@p), would be able to make a killing, like the privately owned article directories and blogs are doing at the moment, post eza.

People are paying these article directories $67 a month membership to post their approved content online - so why not a couple of top quality privately owned video directories offering similar memberships?

  • Hi Tiffany, the strange thing is today at least 5 internet marketers sent me e-mail about deletion of their Youtube account.
All their videos were about internet marketing or social media, and someone said it was because of the word "Youtube" included in video title, bit at this point I don't know if Youtube is kicking out from its network all internet marketers.

I go to check if my videos are online or not... Brrrr...

Too Bad Tiffany. In Illinois amazon.com refuses to have affiliates because of our anti business governor and taxing the internet sales. Possibly you will be able to convince them of their ways. Facebook deleted Sitesell and they were able to argue their side of it and get back on. Time to put the camo on be a warrior. Thank you for letting us know.

I've had 3 of my Youtube accounts banned a while back. Apparently the FTC is even effecting that as well when they changed the regulations a little bit a year or two ago. I guess they feel that most people posting videos in the make money online niche are scammers (and I agree that most are) so they started attacking everyone, even the good people.

But same time I find is absurd seeing that there are tons of inappropriate videos around youtube that never get banned. I've seen videos with excessive cursing and uses of the N word and so on that NEVER get banned (and i'm not making it a race thing just making a point). In my opinion, those types of videos are a little more detrimental than talking about the financial future of someone struggling in an economy that the government and mega monopoly companies help to sabotage.

Let me do a quick check up on Youtube:

    Fight videos? Check
    Gore Videos: Check
    Sexual videos: Check
    Racial videos: Check
    Strong language videos: Check
    Stolen Copyright videos: Check

    Make money online: Not check.
Make money at home: Not check.

Google is going crazy but its not the only game in town (thank God). There are plenty of other sites you can put your videos on or you can just bite the bullet and get Easy Video Player and use Amazon S3 or get your own video site with a script like Clipshare or a free one like PHP Motion and host the videos yourself.

I have all of the above at the moment because it's better to pay extra money to control your accounts. I'd never again use Youtube or a third party video script to run my videos anymore.

No anger at the the thousands of IM'ers whose shady practices and wild claims brought the FTC into our little pool in the first place? For every Tiffany Dow on youtube there were 10 more idiots promoting make money scams. It is unfortunate that youtube did not take the time to review every video, but from a business standpoint they did the right thing. Google doesn't want the FTC looking too closely at them so they are cleaning their house up and it doesn't matter how many babies get tossed out with the bathwater.

But it still surprises me that when one of these big social media companies delete a bunch of IM accounts no one ever casts an eye on the guy on your right and left advertising 10,000 facebook likes for $5.00 or encouraging you to hire some poor schlub in a far off land to "Like", +1, or retweet your site 200 times.

In every group there will always be bad apples. Just because most 'make money online' are scams does not mean that we should remove all 'make money online' websites. To a certain extent Google has no control over your personal sites though. Most of the anger is at Google and YT because in essence they are preying on those who don't have a lot of money. If you want to make videos for your site now it now has a higher financial cost then it used to.

    >> People are paying these article directories $67 a month membership to post their approved content online - so why not a couple of top quality privately owned video directories offering similar memberships?

The problem is TRAFFIC, youtube has search traffic, from youtube search, which is one of the biggest search engines (not just video) online.

    You lose that advantage elsewhere.

Wow. I am just reeling in shock. I don't have the number of You Tube videos invested as some other marketers here, and luckily none in the IM niche. But I really feel for my fellow marketers who have lost so much...
We must find a way to pull together and share ideas for a solution. The Amazon S3 one is the only I've thought of so far, and yes it's too bad it isn't free.

Thats what social networks do to you when they want to demonize you for something that they can't profit from. In the end, it's all about how much more money Youtube/Google can make.

You have to realize that 3 years ago, YT was making 20 million a month but paying 12 million a month in overhead...that means they were losing a TON of money and were facing extinction.

So their answer was to create more ad opportunities and introduce the video ad slots. The next thing they did was get rid of people getting "free" advertising by posting viral videos promoting their products. This is why you can advertise a make money online type of video, but you can't post it to your profile anymore.

Plus they changed their TOS and made it a violation if you had videos on their promoting a product in the past and didn't take them down by a certain time after the TOS change or if you posted NEW videos promoting a product.

In the end, this is just another Google slap that is designed to make them more money at the expense of the user.

Sorry to hear that Tiff... you've been such an inspiration and help to so many... totally sucks...

Unfortunately, Google has become such a giant they seem to have lost their perspective and concern for the people who got them there... Now they come across more as a ruthless monster that no one can stop... It's unfortunate so many people put their trust in them... they end up being punished for it eventually...

        Google is notorious for constantly changing their TOS on a whim and deleting accounts whenever they feel like it without warning or explanation... after all, they're the internet "gods" and answer to no one... sad... really sad to see so many innocent people suffer as a result... especially good people like yourself Tiff... ={

On a side note tho, I see some great opportunities here that can really benefit a savvy marketer and marketers in general from all this Google BS...

        Just some food for thought...

Because it affects our business directly, we tend to cry "foul" and I don't think that's fair.

The people who "made" YouTube so popular are not make money marketers - they are normal folks who share interesting and funny videos. YT has some immensely entertaining and educational videos and the other side of the coin is protecting the average YT visitor from being sold to every time they click "play".

We don't like the policy - but we don't own the site.

By people, I meant the general public, not just marketers or business people... I've seen many good and serious bloggers lose their accounts on Google and they don't do any marketing at all... I was referring to people in general and Google in general... sorry for any confusion...

And let's not forget, marketers have gone a long way to making Google as profitable as it is too...

what the hell? I was sticking up for Google/youtube on here a couple of days ago because somebody was complaining that their "SEO" videos got their account banned. I put this down to them being crap/spam.

    Hi Tiffany,

Sorry to hear about that! The crazy thing is, I just opened up a Youtube account for one of my projects on yesterday. I have been looking at Amazon S3 and also Mark Fail has a Wordpress Theme called "Movie Theme" at Premiumpress.com. All of this YouTube stuff the last few days has been perplexing to say the least. I frequent several indie film making forums and it looks like marketers aren't the only ones getting banned. A forum lit up yesterday morning with people saying their videos were yanked and their accounts were banned. The videos were short films!

It would also seem that they are cracking down on those lyric videos for really popular songs.

As for me I don't have anything "making money" related, however I do have a many videos that promote certain products with picture slideshows. I'll be eagerly watching them to see if they get pulled within the next few weeks.

Sorry to hear about your tough luck Tiffany.
