Many people underestimate, or simply do not understand the power behind list building. Building a list is core to successful internet marketing. When you are trying to sell to the public, the power of building and nurturing relationships cannot be underestimated. Too many people are still just setting up a website, advertising a product and driving traffic to it. Whilst this method may have worked well 10 years ago, it simply wont work today. Sure, you may get the occasional sale, but the amount of traffic you have to drive to the website to get that sale will be massive.

The bottom line is you will not be successful by driving visitors to a static webpage advertising a product. This is far too impersonal for the modern day consumer. However there are still so many people doing it, and the average newbie to internet marketing doesn't know of any other way!

Well the far more successful way to do it, is by building a list. Stop trying to sell instantly, and take time to nurture relationships first. To begin with, forget selling altogether. Before you even consider selling to your visitor, you need to develop a relationship with them by giving them something of value.

By giving your visitor something for free, in return for their name and email address, you not only develop a positive relationship with them, but they get added to your list. Once you have built a large list, that you have developed a relationship with, and whom trust you, then you can start marketing paid products to them.

The majority of successful internet marketers make their money by promoting to their list. They spend a long time building up and nurturing their list. Then every time they want to promote a new product, they bang out an email to their list, and they will make sales.

So for any newbies out there, stop trying to sell instantly. Stop trying to drive as much traffic as possible to your static sales page. It will take far more time and effort than its worth. Forget about selling for now, and focus on BUILDING THAT LIST.

Yep.. I made a living off of maintaining strong lists for years

Key Strategy #1: Incentivize - they'll sign up if you can give them something valuable

Key Strategy #2: Let them invest themselves in your product before buying it. If they spend an hour reading the first chapter of your eBook, they'll be invested in it and much more willing to pay for the rest.

    I totally agree...

"The money is in the list" IMO should be "The money is in the relationship with your list"

Forget the churn and burn tactics, build a positive relationship and it will reward you!

larkykid, here is how you build a list.

        1.) Choose a niche.

2.) Set up a website offering visitors something free that is related to that niche. For example if your niche was weight loss, you may offer visitors a free ebook entitled "10 Tips To Lose Weight Fast". To gain this free gift, visitors to your website will have to enter their name and email address into an opt in form on your website. When they do this, they will be added to your list.

3.) Now you have started building your list, you will send them newsletters (Using an autoresponder program such as "Aweber"). These newsletters may contain free advice or tips related to your niche, or may promote paid products.
