YouTube Marketing is Alive and Well! 6 Rules to Recovering

YouTube marketing isn't dead at all, here's what to do if you want to keep milking the YouTube cash cow.

Thank me later when you're rolling in free traffic and sales.

1. Diversify

Never keep all your videos on the same account. Unless you're trying to build a brand around your name or something, there's no good reason to have all your videos on the same accounts. i.e. Don't keep all your eggs in the same basket.

2. Stay away from MMO

Google is killing accounts that are promoting make money online (MMO) stuff right now. I don't blame them. 99% of it is just over the top insanity, so stay away from MMO until they calm down then make sure you follow rule 5.

3. Use Proxies / Use Other's Accounts

If you register multiple accounts all with the same IP then YouTube will know and it'll be much easier to ban all of your accounts in one swoop. Hop on Fiverr and buy a few accounts or use a proxy and do it yourself to make sure it looks more natural.

4. No links in "more info" box

Until your video "matures" and ages a bit. If you open up an account and start posting videos with a ton of links in them, you know what will happen next. Either the video will be taken down or the whole account nuked. Once your account is "established" (I usually wait for a thousand+ views) put a link in your more info box.

5. Fly Under the Radar

You used to have a channel with 50+ videos and all of them were 30 seconds long and you had 5k links going to each one? Yeah, not a very subtle way to exploit YouTube. Keep your account tame and don't draw any attention to yourself that you're deliberately milking YouTube for traffic + sales.

6. Never buy links for your videos, EVER

It's pointless. Why? Because worst case scenario you want to lose your account or video--not the links you paid GOOD money for pointing to those videos. It'll hurt that much more if you go spend $100 on links to a video that MIGHT not make it.

Instead it's a good idea to build your own links as automated as possible (bulk article submissions are a great place to start - using software). This way you minimize your risk if YouTube decides your video is too "scammy" or "spammy", all you lose is the account and time spent uploading the video, not $XXX in SEO too.

Like I said, YouTube marketing is alive and well and you can still get a TON of traffic with video marketing if you keep forging ahead, trust me. Just diversify and minimize your risk.

If you get your account deleted, open up a new one and start again. Note: I've followed these rules even before the crack down and my accounts/videos are doing just fine. Knock on wood! I hope this helps someone who has been hit by the crackdown, feel free to ask any questions. I might add to this as time goes on

Those are some great tips man.

I think it goes without saying that if you actually have a YouTube channel with great videos that people really appreciate, you will be fine.

I've got MMO stuff on my channel but I've also got a lot of other really cool stuff that has nothing to do with MMO or marketing whatsoever. I would be SHOCKED if YouTube banned my account.

      Wish ya all the best!

  • this post borders on "how to spam youtube and not get caught"

seriously, the only way to keep a video up on youtube is to go through proxies, multiple accounts, etc?

i can feel for the mmo and affilitaes right now, but 99% of niches are still fine

99% of niches aren't fine. If it's a video with a link and SEO, you're in the cross hairs--trust me on this lol. In other words if they think you're selling something and using them, you're no different than someone with a MMO video promoting the latest CB product.

Also, if this borders on how to spam YouTube, that doesn't make all that much sense. If you lose your account then you were already spamming YouTube in the first place--as far as YouTube is concerned. There is no difference.

Seriously? Why does the fact that it's youtube change anything?

If you were to tell people that to get their content onto Warrior Forum (or any other site) just use proxies, use other peoples accounts, use multiple accounts, etc you would be called a spammer by almost everyone here.

But for some reason because it's youtube it's accepted?

Here is a crazy idea... Instead of going through all that, how about simply following their rules. If that doesn't work for you, just host your videos somewhere else...

I don't think I quite understand what you mean. Are you saying if Youtube ban you for what they consider spamming, then it's alright to come back to make new accounts in order to spam in a "smarter" way? If so, then, no wonder the IM niche got such a bad reputation... Mentalities like that is what's killing it.

Dash Evra, do you have any videos on YouTube? If so, do you have a URL in the "more info" box, have you built any links to the videos, are you selling something via the video or trying to get people to click your link? If not, then it makes perfect sense you don't understand.

If so, then you're a spammer. Plain and simple. YouTube decides who a spammer is, not you. Keep this in mind when you're criticizing practical ideas for keeping videos/accounts live for a longer period of time rather than allowing YouTube to slam the banhammer and delete days of work whenever they deem necessary.

Unless I'm not understanding something properly, so please enlighten me if that's the case

Yes, I use Youtube videos as a promotional tools. I am not in the MMO niche. I follow their rules and never have any problems.

And what are you talking about? Youtube doesn't categorize you as a spammer just for having links in your description box. Take a look at Youtubers like passion4profession () or sixpackshortcuts (). They have links in their videos, promote their website or whatever. Yet, their account is still active. They are not trying to find loopholes in the system. They just follow it. Plain and simple.

        1. I was just pointing out having multiple accounts is a sure fire way of getting yourself ban on Youtube.

        2. Why shouldn't Youtube be allowed to delete videos off of their site anytime they please? It's THEIRS. It's a free service, they don't owe us anything. May I remind you, the fact that we are allowed to upload videos on their site is not a right. It's a privilege... Or a favor. If they decide that they no longer welcome our videos on THEIR site, why on earth would we have any say on it? We should just be honor their wishes and move on. Making multiple accounts and come up with shaddy schemes to bypass it is the type of things that get Youtube to label us as a spammer.

        Think of it this way...
If warrior forum ban me because I was promoting something they don't welcome, is it OK for me to go and make few more accounts, promote the same product in a less obvious way etc...? NO. The majority of you here would consider me a spammer or even a scam artist once I am found out. Why can't the same rules apply for when Youtube ban our videos?? Sheesh...

Thanks for the tips. It's truly something that internet marketers should use. YouTube is ranked the 3rd best website in the market right now (according to Alexa) and will probably stay that way. You're taking advantage of Google and FaceBook, why not YouTube? I understand that YouTube might not have everything that Google and FaceBook has to offer, however, you must understand that they are a really popular website and that you will make money of them.

It does suck because out of the 3-4 WSO's I JUST bought. They ALL used YT as a part of their strategy. NOW WHAT !? I guess like what people here have said, just go somewhere else.
Can you create a video leave seo the title but no link in the description, but then post in comments your link related to the subject with another account ?

Totally, don't sweat it. YouTube is just policing the MMO stuff for now and primarily the content owners/uploaders. Like I said, this means NOTHING. YouTube is alive and well, just keep going.

Dash Evra, this is arguably one of the most straight forward and simplest things I could ever articulate so I pray to God you're not native English speaking, so you at least have an excuse for not understanding what I'm saying here.

Even Vince Delmonte had his health related videos suspended. This is NOT about MMO. This is about banning people who are USING YouTube to generate traffic, BOTTOM LINE. If you have ANY video on YouTube that you use to generate clicks or exposure to your site, YOU ARE A SPAMMER. Don't believe me? Wait a few weeks. This has NOTHING to do with "uploading quality" as many, many, many people on this forum can verify (i.e. MMO marketers who uploaded quality content and still lost their accounts).

Video about how to get six pack abs that links to your blog? Spammer.

Video about how to bake cookies that links to your cooking forum? Spammer.

This really isn't that hard at all to understand.

Given this extremely 'lax' definition of what a spammer is this means anyone on YouTube who isn't simply uploading a video of their dog playing with a toy and has ulterior motives is a spammer, that's right, even you.

For the record: there is nothing wrong with using proxies to register accounts...at all.

There are dozens of legitimate reasons to have proxies and to use them to register accounts. From privacy to security to...well, you name it.

It's great! We're all spammers; Darren Rowse over at Pro Blogger, the New York Times, ABC News, the New York Public Library, spammers all! If they really don't want people linking to other sites, why don't they simply prohibit linking, instead of goiong through the hassle of banning accounts of those who don'rt really warrant it. Rowse got his banned, until the hue and cry basically forced Youtube to reinstate it.

I heard YouTube is bummed because their "YouTube Promoted Videos" PPV system is not raking in as much revenue as they had hoped. One of the big-wigs decided to toss in a monkey wrench and burn the MMO faction.

Because after all, they want to make money online, too.

So, make them happy and buy some views, if only for a day. You get to keep a nice clickable call-to-action on your video. Win - Win.

It looks like some good advice. I have been thinking about opening up a new youtube account. But only to show products and services that I do on gig sites. That way it is separate from my main channel. I would say though that the most sign ups I get for most of the programs that I work on has been from videos from my youtube channel. So as far as traffic it is still top notch!

I went now to youtube, and typed in "Making money online". There is for example, lisa3876 with tons of viewers, every vid has 2 links. In the video Google itself advertizing make money online programs "$400 CPA" and such things.

OK, she is popular, millions of viewers, google doesn't want to harm her. Go to a new one to see, what is happening now.

"havereviews" (Shean Donahow) has 400 viewers. Has link in the info box. He is still alive. Another vid from him makes promo for authoritypro. Has 2-3 viewers. Link is on the video.

For "make money online" there are 27000+ videos, every minute somebody uploads one.

I personally don't understand, why trying to make money from the most visited website is a sin. They are making big money from us, visitors, but we are not allowed to make our life a little bit better or easier? We must remain pure consumers?

This is not a good news, because I become aware of the possibility to make videos and sending people to offers, etc. Maybe it should be done more clever now. Everything becomes more and more difficult.

Brad here. Great advice on YouTube. But with all the problems with the "main stream" sites - do you think other lesser known sites will spring up?

What do you think of a business on line hosting videos and setting up competition for the sites that want to limit available "air time" to just the things that fit their mold?

Stranger things have happened - what do you think. Just my two cents worth.

    Cheers !

    I would add a number 7.

Always keep an easily accessible backup of all your videos, preferably online so that if for some reason you do get an account closed you haven't just lost all the work you did and can quite easily re-upload them (factoring in the one(s) that may have been the problem if there was one). I know a lot of people just deal with their videos one at a time and then if an account gets slapped they either spend ages trying to find and upload all the videos again or they don't actually have them stored anymore and have lost them for good.

Always keep an easily accessible backup of all your videos, preferably online so that if for some reason you do get an account closed you haven't just lost all the work you did and can quite easily re-upload them (factoring in the one(s) that may have been the problem if there was one). How about on your harddrive. A folder called 'my yt videos' would probably do it.

Are you using youtube to send traffic to your site and build a list or are you doing something like direct linking to amazon?

I have had some experience with the changes on Youtube or rather them cracking down with the duplicate content penalty.

More than worry about links in the description box of your video I would say make sure it links through to something REALLY informative. Really good content links will probably not get banned.

Also main thing, make sure your video offers value...

Dash has put a video above of a guy that is performing a workout and he actually gives the whole workout for free.

Or at least an example of a workout before you even get to the sales page.

Of course you still run the risk of getting taken down but I have found:

    * Linking to a really good content site and not just a sales page.

    * Making your videos REALLY informative and offering a lot of value.

    works really well.

Some great tips. I find aslong as you keep your videos fresh and intersting then YouTube and google won´t have a problem with them. I have never been banned and have a solid stratgey of posting videos. I have also never had a problem adding a link in the info box either.
I suggest if you have trouble purchase a submission service for your videos and get someone else to submit them for you. This means your account is at no risk whatsoever.
