what is the importance of website while registering with affiliate networks?

Hello there,

I'm a newbie to affiliate marketing having done lot of reading over past few months. I'm off to some start/experimentation with PPV. I'm trying to register with some affiliate networks now. Though I have read a lot of articles on how to get into a affiliate network there is one question that no one answers properly.

What is the importance of having own website? do we really need to have a website for getting into affiliate programs? Since PPV allow direct redirect to affiliate pages I can do well without my own landing page then why ask for a website while registering with affiliate networks?

Thanks

It's not essential but certainly helps your application. Leave the website box blank and in the comments section at the end of the application tell them you're going to direct link through PPV or that when you find an offer you want to promote you'll build a website around that.

Whatever you do, DON'T lie on your application, always tell the truth.

Many affiliate managers manually approve affiliates. They want to see the type of website you have, how old it is, how well it is ranked, what else you are promoting and how you promote it. In essence they are 'interviewing' you.

While you don't need to have a website for affiliate marketing, you might consider, for the purposes of managing your own reputation, and for the minimal costs involved, a 'business card' type of personal website i.e. yourname.com

On this have some information about yourself (business info, not personal) e.g. "Joe Bloggs is an experienced internet marketer who focuses on marketing, as an affiliate, only the highest quality products. With a reputation for ethical and accurate promotion techniques, he is well regarded by the merchants he represents............ etc

Do it in Wordpress, have a home page, privacy policy, contact page, affiliate income disclaimer (if putting any banners on it).

Market yourself, and go a little way to enhancing and protecting your own online reputation.

Subscribing to Affiliate program and showing them your website URL is good mainly to the affiliate account managers - this way they can tell how good you can be as an affiliate..from my experience as a senior affiliate manager and head of affiliate marketing, it helps the affiliate program to know how to categorize you...you can always tell them what is your experience, what are your marketing plans and methods, it will help for sure.
I have a composed a great article about this exact same issue and topic (since I am new here I cant post my websites links so feel free to PM me ;-)

I'm a member of a few affilate programs that did require an interview of sorts. They wanted to see my site, asked how I was planning on promoting their product and also some background on what I had done in the past. They are protecting their product from being used as spam fodder and keeping out unscrupulous affiliates who might cause their product or brand name harm... or worse!

I actually belong to some high ticket affiliate programs that won't even allow me to have affiliate offers for competing products on the same site!
