Thanks for the suggestion, I've been looking for something like that too.

It depends exactly what you want, each has their pros and cons and expensive doesn't always mean best. Check out their support, whether it's a one off payment or an annual one and whether it all has all the features you need (some charge extra for basic things drip feeding and protected download).

The ones I'd advise taking the time to look into are DAP, MemberWing (the authors of both can normally be found on here), Your Members (disclaimer, I work for them) and WPMU Devs one if you need WP-multisite support.

I would strongly encourage you to search this forum using the search form. This question comes up from time to time. There is a lot of good info already on the forum.

You also might check out the All about membership sites thread on this forum as well at this link - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...hip-sites.html

But to your question...I would suggest checking out Wishlist Member. it is a pretty nice plugin that will do a lot. I would also encourage you to check out other options...I have used nanacast as well....

At the end of the day...get your requirements and what you want out of the plugin and then compare to various solutions...

Magic Members, Wishlist and WP MemberChamp are all good depending on how involved you need the site to be.

WP MemberChamp is good for a single level membership site. Both MagicMembers and WishList are good for multi level and drip feeding content, I'd say MagicMember is easier to get to grips with though, but then if you put the time in WishList can do a lot more....

Not sure if that helps or confuses the choice more but there you go! Lol!

I've used all the major ones from aMember to DAP to purchasing the rights to one from a guy in England.

What I've used for most of my sites is Wishlist Member. No perfect but it works.

DAP in many ways has more power but when I initially tested it, it wasn't as well organized so I moved on (software makers take note: user design is important).

IMHO, right now, there is no BEST.

But you don't need best to make money.

      Get it going.

      Improve from there.

The most important thing to do is know your model. That will impact the software you use, and how much money you make.

P.S. I'm testing what is absolutely THE best membership plugin ever created for WordPress. In Beta now, 2 to 3 months from release.

Absolutely. We spent years putting as many features as possible into a membership plugin and ended up with something that was a mess and very complicated for first time users. That's why for v1.10.0 we spent weeks pulling apart the admin section and redesigning it from scratch to make it actually made sense to first time users.

I agree, it's all about finding the best plugin for your situation. I answer questions about membership plugins on numerous forums and blogs, but I rarely declare any one of them (including our own) as "best" simply because there are so many factors to consider and they'll be of different importance to different users.

For example, two of the major membership products now encrypt their source, to somebody who just wants to "use" the product this isn't important, but to a developer it's a deal breaker. Likewise support, we're one of the few that does telephone support, but not many people are willing to pay extra for it. Then you have to consider whether features like drip feeding, download protection, adaptive pricing, coupons and pay-per-post are important. Some find them essential, others will never use them.

It'll be interesting to see if it can survive. So many "new" membership plugins have been launched and sunk without trace over the last few years. WPMU Dev's did manage to survive but they already had a user base and they are currently the only ones with proper WordPress multisite support. But most of them have realised that membership plugins is an already saturated market with competitors who have years worth of development behind them, making it very hard for the new guys to get much of a look-in, no matter how good they are.

I just Magic Members and Wish List but prefer Wish List. Lots of features, easy to use and good support.

My choice, having reviewed loads of options was Wishlist. I also decided to join their wishlist membership because that gave me a lot more help, advice and resources.

For non-wordpress membership sites I use Memberspeed which I think is a lot more comprehensive if you are going to build an authority membership site.

List Machine Pro is pretty sweet.

        Hi Guys,

thought I would chime in here... I am in the process of installing wishlist member, but I did take a look at the DAP site and let's just say I am very impressed.

        Here's my beef with Wishlist:
        1. Support Sucks. I sent in a ticket about a simple plugin related question and they told me it was a "customization issue" and that I would have to talk with one of their wp-list consultants? So I went back and forth with this "customer service" rep (i use the term loosely because she was just cut and pasting the same response over and over again) and got absolutely no where. these are the consultants they charge money to "certify". One word. Ridiculous. I paid for the program, answer the question and don't try to gouge me with your consultants.

        2. wishmember live. their membership site is WEAK on content. It's more about cutesy little comments about videos rather than hard-core advice and help. It's also a ghost town and it appears a place more for their "consultants" to troll for business rather than for folks to share ideas and help each other out. A great forum for this is the thesis forum area. I will be cancelling this soon.

        3. Overall here's my take on Wishlist. Wishlist is long on cutesy videos and short on helpful content. My message to STU is: Spend more time on the PRODUCT and LESS TIME ON MARKETING VIDEOS.

        4. And also their sequential delivery solution is clunky.. I need a drip content system and DAP appears better suited for that.

I will give DAP a try... as I feel that Wishlist member is more interested in extracting my money than delivering a superior product.

        thanks!

          (Edited for brevity)

This echoes what we're hearing on an almost daily basis (we've never had so many WishList converts as we've been getting the last few months). In the past we've been guilty of the opposite at times (relentlessly adding features, but not putting the same effort into the UI, documentations, tutorials, videos etc) but thankfully we're improving.

Even before I started working with a plugin dev team, I was unimpressed with WishList, but the more time I spend working in the niche, the worse they seem to get.
