Whoooo hooooo! First clickbank sale! I'm ecstatic, I went on a vacation and haven't checked anything site related in about 4 days. Come back and I have my first sale!

Super excited! But only 1 problem:

I really wish I knew how that guy got to my site, what he liked, what his opinion was, just wish I had more analytics so that I could see *what worked*

Wow...I'm happy right now.

    WELL DONE MATE!!!!!!!!!

Your right that tracking is important, look into that straight away. Once you know where the sale came from then you can scale up and focus on that area more.

remember 2 that you can add tracking id to your CB links to help get info on the clicks. Try Using that first them upgrade to a better system later on.

Most link cloakers also have tracking available. i use clicktrackzilla from WSO thread, its great at telling you exactly where each sale came from.

Again awesome work Now make it happen again... and again..... and again.......

Congratulations, getting your sale is such a good feeling! I remember I was so giddy with excitement when it happened to me; I felt like it proved that internet marketing was actually "real."

What method(s) are you using to promote the Clickbank item? If you have your own site, you might want to install Google Analytics so that you can track how your visitors get there; it might help you with your campaigns. If you're hosting on cPanel, you can also see some information about where your visitors come from, which might help as well. And at the very least, you could also add the optional "Tracking ID" when you create your Clickbank hoplink, if you're using hoplinks on more than one site.

Anyways, congratulations again, now just keep on truckin'

I have google analytics, but I don't know for sure where that PARTICULAR person that bought the product came from. Was it google, or an article, etc. How did he find my site? But hey its all good, I'll just try to keep doing what I'm doing.

I'd like to hope that they keep coming, and I'm trying to figure out more ways to boost traffic. I feel like the one area I really need to work on is building more backlinks to my site. I've been here for a while now and I'm still not sure how to get good quality consistant backlinks. I've looked into some companies and it was like $750-$1000 a month....and I've only made one sale. I don't have that kind of cash at the moment.

That right there is why I went into adult. Getting high pr back links are made for the adult field. The only other alternative is to get a crap load of .com's in competitive niches for long-tail phrases (100+ sites) and as each gets a few hits a day, in total you end up with a lot of traffic.

So, instead of spending $750 on backlinks, why not buy 50 longtail domains (don't do keyword research, just type what makes sense) and then get them indexed. These days you gotta go with quantity over quality when you're a newbie.

Dude, whats important is LIST BUILDING.

Guess what? The EASIEST person to sell to is a PROVEN BUYER! You now have that. Start capturing emails and promoting additional products in the back end.

BTW - Can you email this person directly and simply ask them how they found you? Or dont affiliates have this option??

          Hi

everytime I read your posts you just keep getting smarter and smarter dude.

You are correct. Build a list of prospects who love and cant wait for you to send the next email and you have won this game, time to quit the job.

But it is harder for some than others.

Once you master email marketing and building a list, you can earn more than you family combined.

Good job. Now, look up for tracking codes inside Clickbank. Create a separate tracking ID for each location that you have linked the sales page to. That will pinpoint the link that gave you the sale. Do it immediately so that you know by the next time it happens.

Congratulations on the first sale. Like everyone mentioned, the "first sale" is like "first crush". You always remember it, and cherish it.

Truth be told, it's always a mystery how the first sale happens. You do the best you know, and wait for the sale to happen. And then suddenly it does. But you don't really know how it happened and how you can recreate it.

You can use Google Analytics tracking to help understand the visits, and create goals to see how many reach your sales page / post sale confirmation page.

But another thing you can do is simply write to the buyer. Ask him/her about what he liked about the product, how he reached your site, and what else you can do for him.

And yes, do work on building a list as well.

Wish you lot more success ahead. Keep it up!

Fantastic, I remember the buzz well.

You have immediately noticed one of the big challanges with affiliate marketing. tracking your conversions.

First thing you need to do is make use of the Clickbank tracking IDs. Have a seperate id for every affiliate link. At least that way you will know exactly what link produced the sale.

Realistically 1 sale is not enough to be "statistically" relevent enough but the quicker you get your tracking in place the quicker you will have data to analyse.

Make sure you have Google Analytics or statcounter or similar installed as you can then see a lot of information about your site visitors.
I am assuming you are using organic seach traffic. This is harder to link to your conversions.

If your site traffic is fairly low then it is possible to look at the Clickbank purchase time stamp (adjusting for time zone) and then view your Analytics log for the same time. Clickbank also tell you country and (state if US) and you can check this against the information in your stat logs (IP geo location). That way it is possible to find the very site visitor that made the sale.

This's clearly not a tracking method you can sustain but for your first sale it might just be a bit of fun.

If you use paid traffic like Adwords it is possible to track end to end and have an exact picture.

looking forward to getting many more sales

    good luck
