One of my favorite ways to generate some true passive income is to find affiliate program that will generate custom coupon codes specifically for your own affiliate account and no one else and that it can be used on that business's main page. Not too many will do this but if so, check and make sure that a) an unlimited # of people can use the code b) if theres an expiration date when that is c) it can be used at the main site (not a specific affiliate page/link) and you'll get the credit.

To do this sucessfully, you need to create actual, legit sites pertaining the the business or products you are promoting. No business would ever do this for a twitter bomber or just a facebook fan page. Once its established and you're accepted into the program and the code is created for you, promote the hell out of it. Submit it to coupon code sites, promote it on twitter/fb (don't do direct links...some sites don't accept social media traffic for affiliate sales. Go on related forums and put in your signature, etc.

Just a little nugget to anyone looking for ideas.

Good tip man, I know this can work like gangbusters as I've made good sales promoting with coupon codes.

Using a coupon code in conjunction with an FB 'Like' script can be an awesome hybrid of this idea as well.

We do this for our affiliates. I've got a few guys that have a bunch of custom coupon codes created for them. When somebody joins our hosting with their coupon codes, they get credit for the sale.

It is a handy method for sure

I have always had trouble understand the relationship between coupons and the affiliate marketing. Thanks for that piece of information. I Hope you will post more informative posts.

It may not be what he is talking about but your "coupon site" would require people to LIKE or tweet to get the code. Thus making your code go viral.

Any ideas on where to find affiliate programs that allow this? The usual suspects like CJ and ShareaSale? I've never seen one that could tie your coupon code to your affiliate ID so you don't have to use a tracking link.

It's actually very easily done and I've done it before. Contact the Clickbank product vendor and ask them to create a duplicate product at a lower price point. If you can prove you will bring them extra traffic then they will usually be quite happy to do so. Even if the new price is only $1-$2 cheaper, it's still cheaper right.

Then go and install a coupon code script on to your site. I had my own customer WP plugin built for this because I needed it to do specific things. I then create my own coupon code and give that out. People come to my presell page, enter the coupon code into the box and are then redirected to the discounted order page.
